Re: Poll: Are You Playing Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1?

JeongersGaming

"They're the same games as before!"
Good! 😁
Too remake obsessed these days, remakes can be fun, looking forward to Delta, but I don't appreciate them coming at the expense of the original """outdated""" versions.

Imagine if you couldn't watch classic movies on blu-ray or streaming, because remakes exist for them, and who would ever want to watch those old yucky versions?

Why the hell can I not play all the PS1 Resident Evil games on modern platforms?

Re: Metal Gear Solid 4, 5, Peace Walker Ports are Almost Certainly Planned, Says New Evidence

JeongersGaming

I'm wondering how MGSV would differ at all here, other than Switch it's already readily available everywhere. They could adjust some of the grinding for late game equipment? Would they keep the licenced tracks?

I want a Volume 3 that includes all of the side games. First one had Snake's Revenge, so no reason to go all out. Give us Ghost Babel, give us the Acid duology, Portable Ops, Rising, and yes, give us Survive. The purpose of this collection is preservation, having a version of Survive that doesn't require a constant internet connection would be dope.

Edit: Actually that leak mentions Acid (MGA) for Volume 2, so dope.

Re: Konami Aware of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Launch Issues, Fixes Incoming

JeongersGaming

"switch between windowed and full-screen mode" these sound PC version specific lol.

@saffeqwe People aren't considering the bonus content either, the master books and digital screenplays. You may not consider them valuable, but the already existing Japanese physical screenplay books can be pretty expensive, here you can read them fully translated for the first time, for no extra cost. It's a nice feature for hard-core fans. Most of the major issues have been addressed, but because of a few remaining minor issues, they're releasing "broken and wrecked" versions. Funny.

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection (PS5) - Three Classics in One Messy Bundle

JeongersGaming

@Maddie47 You can switch controller ports in a pause menu. The collection has a 3D model of the boxes of each game to examine for Meryl's codec. If you have the physical copy, the screenshot is also on the back of that case.

@Geep I would assume that if the US and JP versions are separate downloads for European players, that would resolve the 50Hz problem, same as you being able to select between PAL and NTSC for the PS Plus Premium games.

Re: Hideo Kojima Missing from Metal Gear Solid Collection's Credits on PS5, PS4

JeongersGaming

Horrible attempt at clickbait.

They didn't include Kojima's name in a collection he did not work on!?!?!? WTF!!!!!! 🤬🤬🤬

(He's still credited within the actual games). Yeah, yeah, you put that detail in the article, but headlines and tweets are all people need to get baited, and you left that out there. Of course, there would be no need for an article either if you did include that clarification in the headline, because there is nothing newsworthy in this.

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection (PS5) - Three Classics in One Messy Bundle

JeongersGaming

This collection has fixed many issues present in the HD Collection versions, so it's easily the best modern way to play these titles (PS2 versions win out slightly when it comes to a few bonus features, but in terms of the core titles, they're at their best here.

The End screenshot says it all really. Completely broken visuals on the HD Collection, now it looks correct on PS5 as it was on PS2. Personally, I find these fixes more important in faithfully preserving the games on modern platforms than anything else, and shows the opposite of a cash grab. Usually technical issues in ports get carried over to future ports, and are joined by new ones. Sonic Adventure DX says hello.

The different launchers is weird, but there's a reasoning for the decision, because you can choose to buy the games individually, so they count as separate titles. Could've handled it slightly better on PS5 though, with them all occupying one space on the home screen, like how you could switch between PS4 and PS5 versions of the same game.

Re: The Last of Us 2 PS5 Remaster Seems to Be Real

JeongersGaming

@Neverwild Yep. People are being a little dramatic over this, I think it's only fair. The first game has a native PS5 version, so it's now a bit of a downgrade to go from Part 1 to Part 2. It most likely won't be a major project for them either, it'll be along the lines of the Director's Cut versions of Ghost of Tsushima and Death Stranding, backport the newer features amd functionality of Part 1 to 2 with slightly nicer visuals (Horizon's rumoured "remake" is probably similar too).

Re: The New Devil May Cry Anime Is Real, Coming Soon to Netflix

JeongersGaming

@Kanji-Tatsumi It's pretty silly because Reuben has always been known as that type of guy, being involved with other types of conspiracy posting like aliens and stuff. Covid has been very politiced and it seems the presumption is that you're on the right wing for being against lockdowns and such, but Reuben's always struck me a left wing guy if anything. More of a new age hippie type though, as opposed to a neolib US Democrat party type.

All this said, I'm not entirely sure if the recast is because of his views, a decent chunk of other VAs from SF4/5 were replaced too. Hideaki Itsuno seems to have a personal friendship with the guy so I think we'll find out whenever the next DMC game comes out. The anime could go either way since it's been licensed out.

Re: Metal Gear Solid Locked at 30fps in PS5, PS4 Master Collection

JeongersGaming

@naruball @durxll123 some of the people who get mad about 30fps can't even tell the difference actually. This one guy on Instagram was insistent that you could run MGS on a phone via Duckstation. Told him that's not possible and he DM'd me a video where the framerate counter clearly showed it was at 30, but there was a separate counter next to it displaying the refresh rate being 60. Literally thought a 30fps game was 60fps because he believed the number in the corner of the screen told him it was.

Re: Metal Gear Solid Locked at 30fps in PS5, PS4 Master Collection

JeongersGaming

@AdamNovice I think the only genuine issue that we've seen is MGS2 on Switch being 30fps, which doesn't register if you get it on PS5. That aside, it's largely what the community was asking for over the last several years, competent faithful conversations of the classics that preserve the original intent as much as possible on all modern platforms. They've invited both journalists and fans who know the games inside out to try preview builds and the reception on both ends has been positive.

It's a far cry from say... Silent Hill HD Collection, or the pre patched version of ZOE HD Collection. It's more comparable to some of Konami's other recent compilations like the Cowabunga Collection when it comes to the bonus content, alternate versions of games, etc.

Re: Metal Gear Solid Locked at 30fps in PS5, PS4 Master Collection

JeongersGaming

Well yeah. It's always been capped at 30, even on PC (no mods for it either). Just how the game was designed back then, and the version in the collection is a basic emulation. I'd rather they keep it at 30 as opposed to going in and somehow unlocking the framecap and breaking some part of the game, which happens often for these old Japanese games.

See RE4's animations and QTEs being sped up in the 60fps versions, or better yet, the boss fights in MGS3 (namely the Fury becoming more difficult the higher the framerate gets - the flames last longer).

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection PS4 Will Launch Alongside PS5 Version on 24th October

JeongersGaming

@__jamiie The title being Volume 1 also strongly implies that MGS4 will be coming back in a Volume 2 or even 3. Even back in the day, MGS4 would have been easy to port to Xbox. There's a meme about needing 9 DVDs, but the file size is only about 25GB, enough to fit on 3 discs without even needing to compress the audio and video files. With some optimisation MGS4 could've been an easy 2 disc 360 game.

@itsfoz Maybe that's going to happen, but I don't think a retro game collection needs a heavy marketing cycle far in advance. We have a couple of trailers, probably another around launch, a press preview event. And you'll see online ads probably at the same time.

Re: The Original Tomb Raider Trilogy Returns in Remaster Collection on PS5, PS4

JeongersGaming

Contrary to some commenters, I hope they do NOT change the controls. These games were designed to be played with tank controls, like it or not. The level design is designed completely around them.

@naruball I thought the upgrade looked really odd with the high resolution textures paired with the blocky geometry, the reveal of the switching to original graphics feature explained it, but I think I'll stick mostly to those original graphics as a consequence. There's some charm to it I suppose, it looks a bit like the CGI renders you'd get from the era.
