I think people who thought Microsoft were going to spend $69 billion to come in, fix Blizzard's/Activision's predatory BS and give us new Spyro and Crash Bandicoot games were a bit naive.
Gotta say, not really what I wanted or expected from an Alone in the Dark reboot. Doesn't look scary at all. Looks more like LA Noire meets Downton Abbey
@species "Based on criteria like innovation, technical quality, writing quality."
But two out of three of those are subjective, again. Who's to say what is "quality" writing? Jim Sterling gave Alan Wake 2 a 4/10, because they didn't like the writing. What about Elden Ring, widely considered the best game of 2022, hardly a technical marvel was it? Where as Horizon Forbidden West looked amazing, but everyone on this site hated it. Anyway, you get the point.
Oh boo hoo. I have nothing against the devs but as a franchise it's a creatively bankrupt, overly monetised, trend-chasing, predatory game series. It doesn't just deserve the criticism, it deserves much much more.
There's something a bit sad about that. Some of my favourite presents were physical games. I'm thinking Zelda Windwaker (complete with silver Gamecube 👌), Pokemon Colosseum and LittleBigPlanet. Will kids have the same nostalgia when they're older for a Apex Legends gift-card?
Nice write up Rob. Reminded me of a few of my own memories like accidentally purchasing slightly pervy anime VHS's because anime in general was so uncommon.
People defended microtransantions for years. "It's just cosmetic", "if you don't like it, don't buy it" ect. We're now in an age where skins cost the price of full games and I imagine the younger generation don't know any different. Madness.
Couldn't narrow it down to just three but Bloodborne, Divinity Original Sin 2, Uncharted 4, MGSV, Resident Evil 7, Monster Hunter World and Astro Bot Rescue Mission are all top tier games.
I can't stand free to play games so this is a good thing to me. But the cynic in me says they'll charge for it and there will still be a bunch of extra monetisation anyway
The best thing to do with MGSV would be to tweak the helicopter rides which were obviously a hidden loading screen. It was fine on PS4 (its actually quite a well optimised game) but it should be skippable on PS5. I doubt they'll bother though
@Deadsea93 I will be sooo disappointed if Call Of Duty is still relevant in 10 years. That'll mean there has literally been a CoD release every year for 25 years. Thats not even counting the remakes, spin-offs and DLC. When will it end?

@Chaotic_Goat There is no "objective" game of the year.
Re: Game of the Year: Best PS5, PS4 Puzzle Game of 2023
Humanity is a worthy winner. Deserved more recognition if anything. Very creative game 🐕
Re: Game of the Year: #2 - Baldur's Gate 3
@Icey664 bit rude. Just because Spiderman has a broader reach than BG3 doesn't make those who enjoy it simpletons

@truerbluer I've never seen so much unnecessary hatred for a genuinely good game than with Spiderman 2.

I still boot up the PS3 every now and again so this collection doesn't offer much beyond the original one for me. Just no point
