Well let’s hope developers use PSSR and not just stick with FSR, which they can do. As to be Pro Enhanced you don’t have to use PSSR Which means you can still get stuck with FSR.
Will be interesting to see on these new patches what they do.
@LowDefAl Totally agree that’s down mainly to Microsoft not developing their studio games for series x only.
The best way to get the best out of your own console is to have your studios develop a game for just that console like Sony and Nintendo. Total focus on that one device.
@Titntin Yes, I am hoping they use PSSR instead of FSR If not there is little point in it. I think it is a shame the GPU is not Nivida for this generation then we would have had DLSS. Which is currently the best out there.
Pro release specs. Thought TFLOPS was going to be higher. Seems to have DDR5 2GB, which PS5 does not. That makes it a sort of split RAM pool so guess it is used for something very specific.
CPU - x86-64-AMD Ryzen Zen 2 8-core/16-thread GPU - 16.7 TFLOPS, RGNA AMD Radeon RAM - GDDR6 16 GB + DDR5 2 GB Storage - 2TB SSD Power Supply - 390W Dimensions - Approx. 388 mm x 89 mm x 216 mm (15.28 inches x 3.50 inches x 8.50 inches) Weight - Approx. 3.1 kg (6.83 lb.)
@Titntin Got another tech question for you. I take it if a game say Dragon age runs 60fps at 720p and upscales using FSR. On PS5 Pro will FSR be totally replaced and PSSR used instead? I think the answer is yes.
After finally given in, pre ordered from PS Direct. Taken me money now and in the shopping process.
Dragon age will be my first game to try. Will be interesting to see what Star Wars outlaws comes out like, a very unoptimised game. Wish Silent Hill 2 remakes was there.
Also did you know some of last years and this years top end Sony TVs now use TV AI upscaling. I always said on here my X95L upscales PS5 games really well.
@Titntin Not long now only 4 more sleeps 🤣 Got Dragon Age, started the opening on PS5 but will wait now to play on Pro. So far really enjoying the game and combat. It’s a must at 60fps for me, so blurry when panning around at 30fps. MB also off for me.
Looking forward to having 60fps in fidelity mode or whatever Pro enhancements we are getting.
@Rich33 Sony are no angels, but a least I know where I am with them and their exclusives approach and there will be a full power under the tv home console PS6.
@Rich33 My simple opinion of Microsoft with xbox is this.
I moved across to PS5 now for future third party etc. Don’t trust Microsoft to have an under the tv home console. Games like Indy, Doom coming to PS5. Microsoft’s messing about and can’t just say what games are Xbox only, like maybe Gears, Forza and Halo etc. it’s as if they could go PS5 if they wish. Microsoft’s lack of clarity on this is shocking and so disrespectful to Xbox fans. They really don’t care about consoles as far as I’m concerned, else they would make some clarity on Xbox exclusivity.
@themightyant Pro should have been 1tb and then cost £100 less at £599.99. Then you can have a choice of an extra £100 for a disc drive or another 1tb of memory.
@Rich33 Yes smaller chip. I know Microsoft have no good selling strategy for consoles and don’t care in my opinion. Hence my move from series x to PS5 as my main console and soon to be PS5 Pro.
We all have ago at Sony but at least they doing something. I can’t understand the price strategy of the white disc less series x 1tb at £429.99 rrp Where the PS5 disc less 1tb £389.99 rrp Work that one out. UK prices.
@Andy22385 I will say one thing in the UK. I wish Sony would get more disc drives they all sold out. But in the USA they have stock and have all the time.
Just another little Sony thing and another year. One tiny reason to add to the list why the PS5 is down now 5.61 million units sold against the PS4 same time line in Europe and growing each month. Mid generation and they really need to try and reverse this situation. Then again it has been one of the worst generations and strangest generations at Sony and Microsoft. Let’s hope the next 3 to 4 years pick up a bit.
@HonestHick We must be telepathically linked. I have just cancelled my PS5 Pro order. About two minutes ago. I’m gonna wait. Money is no issue but I just thought do I really need this for £700.
As for Sony Studios big AAA games they are now definitely not the machine they used to be in the PS4 days. And I bet going forward from Sony Studios we will only get one per year big AAA game and maybe dlc for another. Like in 2023 HFW DLC and Spider-Man 2. Like in 2024 Astro Bot. Like 2025 Ghost 2 and Astro bot story levels dlc.
The business today seems to be more greedy every month. They could release games on Xbox. I mean would it really hurt PS5 sales. And there is 30 million series consoles sold with 60 million PS5. That’s potentially a 30% increase in game sales. And I don’t think it would hurt PS5 sales that much if at all.
@themightyant Yes that is probably correct. However also new Sony studios games like Ghost 2 etc should get the most out of the PS5 Pro and then we can see what the Pro can really do, rather than existing game slight improvements.
@get2sammyb Yes that is probably correct. However also new Sony studios games like Ghost 2 etc should get the most out of the PS5 Pro and then we can see what the Pro can really do, rather than existing game slight improvements.
Basically the more LOD and fancy RT etc they add the more the resolution seems to lower now on the consoles. Then add 60fps and everything ends up 1080p at best with LOD lowered and RT gone.
Either the PS5 and Series x have aged poorly or developing for multiple consoles and PC is leaving specific console optimisation as a nice to have.
That is why normally an in-house Sony Studio gets the best from a Sony console. Experience, only one console to produce for and cross studios knowledge.
@Medic_alert It’s simple, if you are publishing a game you want it to sell and have to make it the best on that consoles ability PS5 and PS5 Pro. Including the controller features. Speaker and haptics etc.
If you don’t, people will see no effort has been made and the game won’t sell.
Sony seem to focus on the USA a lot more than Europe and we know why, it has a strong hold in Europe and UK. The disc drive add on is also available in the USA but not UK and Europe and prices seem a bit better in the USA.
Don’t forget you loyal European and UK gamers Sony.
So far silent hill 2 remake. And I nearly didn’t buy this game. And what an amazing game it is, I read the Eurogamer review and went for it, so glad I did.
Will be interesting to see if COD BO6 and others get Pro optimisation. I can’t see why Xbox wouldn’t because if they are going to try and sell games they need to be at there best over on PS5 and Pro
@MaccaMUFC Really enjoyed HFW and the DLC. You should really enjoy and the dam game looks amazing. If you getting Pro in 2 weeks maybe hold off until then.
@NEStalgia I think the below sums up gaming in 2024 with not enough new releases or very good quality ones and all these remakes and cost of products. The shocking bit for me is the 2019 bit, which is understandable the year before PS5 and series consoles released and at end of life.
Overall, spending on consoles was down 44% from the same time in 2023, reaching its lowest point since 2019 (the year before the current generation began).

It actually runs very slightly smoother on PS5 over Series x.
PS5 Pro patch will be interesting to see.

We know that but with the patch upgrades they might as FSR is already there in place.

Gonna get done for saying this on here but.
“ And Sony will probably only release 1 or 2 a year. They are NOT Microsoft. They don’t own an unlimited amount of studios.”
Are Sony slightly declining and in a weaker position than they are used to, or during day the PS4 days or at the start of this generation.
I don’t mean against Xbox or Nintendo.
But just in themselves, I know European console sales are about 5 million behind PS4 same time line.

I guess mainly it’s just quality mode running at 60fps in most cases.
