Re: PS5 Pro Is Seemingly Starting to Appear in Source Code

__jamiie

This generation is incredibly boring, underpowered and overpriced. I can name maybe two games that have genuinely impressed me so far.

Apart from the SSD, everything could have been achieved on the PS4 Pro or particularly the Xbox One X with virtually no compromise. Where's the justification of paying for another £450 system???

Some of the best PS3 games came out towards the end of that system's lifecycle. Why? Because developers had learned how to push the system for every last drop of performance.

We now have a situation where devs don't have to try to push hardware and consumers are asked to pay ridiculous sums of money, multiple times, for the privilege of playing games that actually look anything different from the previous gen.

Re: Concord's Free Open Beta Is Performing Abysmally on PC

@get2sammyb It would absolutely be a terrible outcome for the devs and creators but that's not the fault of gamers. In my opinion, any live service game should be free to play and be open to as many platforms that can handle them.

Restricting games like this makes no sense at all.

Re: Metro Awakening the Subject of New PSVR2 Screenshots

@WaveBoy No I don't have a PC (yet) but absolutely love my Quest 3. The sweet spot is perfect and the lack of cable has made it so much more hassle free.

I agree that PSVR2 has better colour range but I see very little difference in the fidelity considering Quest 3 is half the price.

Re: Sunset Overdrive PS5 Port Not Happening, Insomniac's Too 'Busy'

I thought Microsoft own the publishing rights?

Aside from that, I really like this game. It was one of the first games I got when I bought an Xbox One and recently played through it again on Series X and had just as much fun as the first time round.

It's not for everyone but definitely deserves more recognition than it currently gets.

Re: PlayStation Likely to Go All-Digital By PS7, Analyst Predicts

@Mince Did you read the whole thing? I hate the idea of a digital only future but can see how companies could be seen to do better when it comes to plastic waste.

I can also see a way for them to 'help' customers move from physical to digital if there was an actual incentive for gamers.

Which is why I also suggested a way for gamers to trade or monetise their digital games.

You don't read things properly pal! End of topic! 😂

Re: PlayStation Likely to Go All-Digital By PS7, Analyst Predicts

I vaguely remember messaging Phil Spencer on Twitter a few years ago that it would be a good move to have a kind of trade in programme where you post them your disc and they credit your account with a digital copy of that game. They could then recycle what they could out of all the discs and the world is a nicer place.

But as a follow up, they would need to create a digital trade in shop in the Xbox store. One where people could list their digital games for sale or trade them with other users. Prices would be set by Xbox based on the number if digital copies etc. available to trade in. In exactly the same way that places like CeX do now.

I think a digital trade in/swap store would be an absolute game changer for the customer. Whilst the initial hit to Xbox or PlayStation could be negated by them insisting on subscriptions to things like PS+ or Game Pass.

But what do I know.

Re: PlayStation Likely to Go All-Digital By PS7, Analyst Predicts

I can see physical games existing but only if Sony and Microsoft allow third parties to make versions of their systems.

If everything is on them to produce the ONLY compatible hardware with their games then I can see the PS6 and next Xbox being digital only at launch.

I do think that Microsoft have slightly different plans for future hardware compared to Sony though. I'm fairly sure they're looking to partner with companies in the same way that Windows PCs are currently sold. If that's the case then it will be fairly straightforward to offer a disc model too.

Time will tell I guess.

Re: Astro Bot PS5 Took 60 Developers Around Three Years to Make

I have a feeling (and hope) this will sell amazingly well but I'm just a little gutted there's no VR mode. Rescue Mission is one of my favourite platform games ever (VR or flat screen).

But who would have thought that making a game that's open to everyone, doesn't cost hundreds of millions and is just fun to play would be a good idea???

Oh wait.... Nintendo and every game they ever release. 😂

Re: PS5 Fan Favourite Stellar Blade Sold Over 1 Million Copies, Dev Estimates

__jamiie

1 million is a completely irrelevant number unless we know things like the development budget, marketing budget, how much Sony paid to support it etc.

That being said, if hype was equal to money in the bank the makers of this would be billionaires.

Lots of people are very vocal about how much they love it but, to me, it just seems like a fairly standard hack n slash with skimpy costumes.

Re: Rumour: Sony's Still Working on PS3 Emulation for PS5

__jamiie

@OldGamer999 I completely agree. Each system offers something quite different but nothing about Xbox or PlayStation this gen has massively impressed me so far. I do think that Switch has an incredible library of games but that's really forging its own path.

I also think that the PS5 hasn't really deserved the sales numbers it has achieved whereas Xbox has deserved more than it has achieved.

With this and all of the uncertainty around acquisitions and closures, it's a very strange generation to watch unfold.

Re: FromSoftware Boss Twists the Bloodborne Knife, Says It's 'A Special Game for Me'

__jamiie

I own it but have never played it. I don't understand why it's regarded as as absolute classic if it's SO in need of a remake/remaster. Is the game's performance that bad??? It was on PS4 FFS! You can play it now on PS5 with no effort!

And if you don't want to play it as is, that suggests it wasn't that great to begin with and shouldn't be held in such high regard.

By the way, it's nothing like the PSOne remakes of RE2+3 which were several generations behind.

Re: Ex-Sony Boss Shawn Layden Explains How to Make Games Faster, Cheaper

__jamiie

Nintendo continues to be massively successful without creating games with ridiculous budgets. I know I'll probably have more fun playing Metroid Prime 4 than I will have playing anything released so far for PS5 and Series X.

I also think that AI can play a huge part in taking a lot of the grunt work away from developers and reduce costs. Microsoft is well placed to lead in that area next gen.

Re: Sony Game LEGO Horizon Adventures Reveals Footage in Nintendo Direct

__jamiie

@Ralizah I'm sure they own the rights to Wonderful 101 though and they definitely own the rights to Fatal Frame. The GoldenEye port to Xbox could never have happened without them allowing it to.

And of course they're going to protect their IP. No other publisher or hardware manufacturer has a comparable list of well known franchises that they have built over the last 40+ years. They build their hardware to make a profit from launch and believe it will sell machines. It doesn't always work of course but for every generational dip, they have a massive generational high.

Nintendo games don't cost hundreds of millions to make but they sell amazingly well meaning profit all the way.

Their hardware hasn't been the most powerful of a generation since the N64 but they still make money on every unit sold.

Their exclusives are far more important to their business model than anyone else.
