@UltimateOtaku91 That's such a childish way to look at Helldivers 2. It's a live service game that will do better on as many platforms as it can physically be on.

@Loamy I completely agree. It was such a shrewd move for Atari to acquire them as they fit together so well.

Their remake of Turok 3 was particularly impressive considering the amount of lost code they had to deal with.

I'll pretty much support any of their projects at this point because, even if the original game wasn't the best, the love and care they put into things makes them worth a purchase.

I really love Nightdive. Such a quality studio and they have a wonderful business model. Long may their remakes continue.

@Ryoth System Shock was a bit more than just a remake but not quite a full on remaster. Either way, I love the work that Nightdive do.

@Loamy I just got PO'ed and Killing Time on Xbox and am loving them both. Just like most of the world, I never played the originals on 3DO but am so glad I get to play them now.

I think we're at a point in the industry where neither Sony or Microsoft know exactly what they're doing. The next few years will see some huge changes in the traditional console business model and they're both testing the waters with different strategies.

Does anyone really believe that Lego Horizon will be the last game Sony releases on a rival platform if it sells well???

@Americansamurai1 They won't be going third party in my opinion. I think the next gen of consoles will be the last and both Sony and Microsoft will move away from dedicated hardware. It will save them both huge R&D and manufacturing costs and I think we'll see third party manufacturers making generic hardware that can download and play games from the PS store and Xbox store. Pretty much like a set top PC or an ROG Ally without a screen.

Convenience of not putting a disc in has overridden everything else.

They nailed it so well with the original that I was kind of jaded by the time the second one came out. Here's hoping Insomniac come back with something fresh for their next game.

This is why I love Game Pass. I have tried and bought so many indie and AA games that I never would given a chance previously.

It's also why Nintendo can take, comparatively, more risks with their IP. None of their games cost hundreds of millions to make and yet consistently sell millions of copies.

I love all of the comments gloating about how the PS5 and games is doing so much better in Japan than Xbox whilst completely ignoring that Nintendo is completely demolishing anything PlayStation do. 😂

On a separate note, these articles always mention that digital sales probably bump up the software sales quite a bit but I'm not sure it would be that much more.

Assuming a person buying their games digitally would be more likely to buy a digital only model, then it would only add another 16% in sales. Plus Japan still has a thriving physical market for consoles.

Just let people buy things!!!

One of the reasons my Wii U is still hooked up is because of the number of Virtual Console games I have. Switch online is a very poor substitute for retro gaming.

@CrashBandicoat I'm genuinely sick of people acting like scalpers are the problem. If nobody bought from them, they wouldn't exist. The scalpees are the problem.

@NEStalgia I agree with you about Nintendo on certain points. I think the next system will either bomb or smash all records. As much as I adored Iwata San, I think that the "new" Nintendo is much more cautious when it comes to their core business. They won't be trying to change the world with their next system and it will be very much a continuation of an amazing formula.

These should be a lot cheaper in my opinion. Sony already made the sale for the machine the first time around and surely they want as many people as possible joining their ecosystem.

Well fingers crossed the PS5 Pro is able to get the new version up to 60fps. I can see the headlines now.

@Nei But that's not what happened with the price of the PS4 Pro and the PS5 base model. This price went up considerably. And considering that people have been complaining for this whole generation that they're disappointed with the difference between this and last gen, I think these concerns are more than justified.

@Rich33 It's not really the same because the example you give is referring to the start of a new generation.

I agree with what @BrettAwesome is saying because if the Pro is successful in any way, then mid gen hardware will become the norm. It will also pretty much guarantee that the PS6 will be well in excess of the Pro's price tag - something I don't think any of us want.

The last time that any of us completely owned a game we bought physically was the Dreamcast/PS2/Xbox/GameCube generation.

Ever since then, we've had games requiring updates, patches and optional DLC.

This will definitely be the last gen where I buy any physical games but mainly because of space in my house.

Pros - Looks outrageously good.

Console - Outdated motion capture.
Very inconsistent frame rate.

???

It's still a completely pointless piece of hardware from Sony. Every game released for the PS5 will need to be playable on the base model. And guess what, they will play absolutely brilliantly.

But for £700 they will be ever so slightly more shiny. 😮

If this happens it will be interesting to see how this would affect the Activision cloud gaming rights that Xbox recently sold to Ubisoft. I can't see Microsoft wanting Tencent to have any part of their franchises.

Sony, if you're going to do more "remasters", how about a game or series that's older than PS4? Something where there will be a genuine reason to upgrade.

@LavenderShroud But nobody needs one. This is a luxury purchase that no-one has to have straight away. The people buying from the scalpers are the problem because they've created the market.

If they don't buy them then scalping goes away.

I don't really get the enormous hate that scalpers receive.

I'd actually argue that Square Enix (and their previous incarnations) are more closely tied to Nintendo than Sony.

They made games pretty much exclusively for Nintendo from 1985 - 1996, then pretty much exclusively for PlayStation from 1996 - 2002.

Ever since then they've been focussed on pretty much any platform available and their output this gen has been heavily slanted towards Switch.
