Re: Soapbox: It's Okay to Enjoy Elden Ring and Horizon Forbidden West

render

I think this would be different if one of them wasn't a PS exclusive. Some people are determined to bash anything Sony for one reason or another but ultimately they will use whatever ammo they can. In this case they have picked ER to be that ammo even though it's a different game and a lot of those people won't likely even play it because of the difficulty.

I've been playing HFW for over 50 hours so far and while it's not perfect it is still brilliant and has moved things on from Zero Dawn. I'm expecting I'll find the same with ER with it having moved things on from the other souls games and be brilliant in its own way.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Horizon Forbidden West?

render

Easily achieves a 9/10 for me. The improvements between Zero Dawn and this are big enough to feel the difference. Some things still aren’t perfect but no game ever is and I’d rather take this as it is than have someone tinker too much and break the things that do work. The plot is also pulling me along so far and, as was mentioned in the review, it’s just told so much better.

Re: Horizon Forbidden West PS5, PS4 Could Be Getting DLC Expansions

render

@zhoont Not sure about the elk but I do agree about the distance thing and having a block of some kind. There’s some machines like the Fireclaws which are brutal and even with some distance they can be on you in a second and there’s virtually no defence against that. It does feel slightly unfair at times.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 (PS5) - Dark Future RPG Is Finally Ready to Rock

render

I was not going to bother with this but tried the trial just before HFW released and was pleasantly surprised. So much so that I bought it and will return to it after I’m done with Horizon. It’s good that they got this game most of the way to being where it should have been a year ago and means that all that hard work the developers put in right before and after launch won’t go to waste.

Re: Sony Pictures Declares Uncharted a 'New Hit Movie Franchise'

render

I’m going to see this with my wife tomorrow. Really looking forward to some cheesy uncharted action. I never did get the free cinema ticket even though I bought the upgrade. Our local cinema isn’t Cineworld anyway and it’s a good trek to get some so it’s just a shame they didn’t do an agreement that would have worked for all cinemas big or small.

Re: No Auto Trophies for Cyberpunk 2077 Owners Switching from PS4 to PS5

render

I don't mind the odd auto pops in case I don't want to sink the same amount of time into replaying a game just to say play some DLC or something.

I'm assuming to make it happen the developer has to do some work, probably by parsing the save file to determine if the condition was met followed by calling out to the PS SDK to unlock the trophy. How hard that is might depend on how that code is written as if it's distributed across the games source code then it might not be that easy.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Dying Light 2?

render

@BritneyfR_ee I had 5 save files for UC4 which popped various trophies as I imported them. I was missing 19 still though which were things like 20 headshots from a rope etc which I must have used chapter select for. If you've used chapter select that doesn't save back to the original save file as it gives you the option to create a new one which I guess I didn't do.

Guess you are right about your crushing play through though as you would have had a save file for that. At least you've got one now in case they do another remaster down the line 😆

Re: Poll: Did You Buy Sifu on PS5, PS4?

render

This looks really good and I’m up for the challenge. I didn’t buy it purely because I haven’t got enough time between it’s release and HFW but will definitely be getting it down the line.

Re: Sony: Everyone's Excited for PlayStation Studios and Bungie to Share Ideas

render

@Titntin I think I'm with you on this in that Sony will be making this move to grow the customer base rather than just converting it's existing customers.

There's a lot of people just on PlayStation that don't play the single player games and they will know from running PSN how much money these live service games make. Why not get in on that and take some of that money that people might otherwise spend on Genshin or Fortnite. It's a lot of money to leave on the table.

There's definitely those worries that others have pointed out about there being a load of these games already or them coming at the expense of traditional games but what if gamers start to move away from single player stuff, Sony need to mitigate the risk of that happening.

Personally I want the single player stuff and I'm just not into anything live servicey but I can see from a business point of view it makes sense.

Re: Remember to Buy Horizon Forbidden West on PS4, And Not PS5

render

If you buy the PS4 version on PSN then I don't think you'll be able to preload the PS5 version as usually the upgrade option only shows up after release. I think this will likely be the same with HFW, so that's probably the only advantage you would get from ordering the PS5 version.

Re: Poll: What Are Your Thoughts on Sony's Buyout of Bungie?

render

I played a tiny bit of Destiny but wouldn't be enough to actually say that I'd got into the game.

I personally don't like the idea of live service games but I'm sure that there are plenty of people out there that do, and possibly for Sony this was a good move if they want to get more into that arena.

As long as they don't abandon their traditional stable of great single player games then that's ok.

Re: Hands On: They Made Destruction AllStars on PS5 Good

render

I was playing every now and then earlier last year but then got into a big game and just didn't go back. I realised once I'd played Wreckfest for a while that that was way more fun than DessiAllstars so if this update has put some more fun into it then I might have a look.

Re: Capcom's Resident Evil 7: Biohazard Is Now Five Years Old

render

I played this just this month and really enjoyed it, and that's from not having played a ResEvil game since probably Umbrella Chronicles on the Wii. I thought it created a great atmosphere, the characters were insane and it delivered some genuine scares. I can only imagine what it must be like to play in VR.

I've got Village to play at some point so might try and get onto that next.
