Ah shame our local cinema isn't a Cineworld as I might have taken the wife to see it and only had to pay for one of us. I'll have to weigh up how good / bad this is and decide if it's worth paying for two tickets
@R1spam It’s my first time with the series too and really enjoying it so far. It does feel dated in a few areas and is generally slower paced than I imagined but there’s some great world building and the story is nicely told. I can see why it gets so much praise.
I can imagine that everything that Activision turns out will be exclusive to xbox / GP. This move isn't about money being made now, it's about money to be made in the future. If they cut everyone else out now and the only place to go to get these games is MS then that really cements where people will go for their gaming. That then reduces the money available to other players in the market and they slowly wither away.
It's a real shame that so much consolidation is going on in the gaming business. Ultimately it's us the consumer that will loose out in the long run and these huge US corps will just continue to get richer and richer.
UC4 for me. There’s just so many great moments and the environments are incredible. The story was solid too and felt like it wrapped up Drakes journey nicely.
It really depends on the game as some linear games really do feel like they start to drag after a while. When it's open world and there's a load of side quests then I'm good if it takes a bit longer to do all those things, but then I do like side quests whereas I know some don't. Generally though I don't want a game to last too long as there's just so many games to play and not enough time.
It sounds like they had no definite plan for what to do with the sequel at that point but really just a bunch of ideas. That's ok I guess as every game must be made without the guarantee of a sequel but maybe the management just weren't confident they could make those ideas into a more tangible product.
Carrying on with my RE7 play through and checking out Dirt 5 some more. It seems really good so far. The controller features are used well and there’s a good variety of tracks and vehicles.
I got a lot out of it last year looking back at that list. Out of all the games released I finished / put a lot of hours into 8 of them. That means if I bought PS+ for the games alone then having paid £30 for a year each game would have cost me £3.75. That is pretty good value.
I wonder how much of this issue is down to a clash of personalities within the studio. There must be more to it than is being let out and this would explain some of it. I'd imagine that Bend management want to put something out that will define them as up there with the best just like the other PS studios and they might not have seen Days Gone as that game.
There's a very good chance that VR is the future of gaming and even if it doesn't exist in the same form there's valuable experience that can be gained from developing VR that can feed into other products. As long as they are making some money from it then I don't see it being that detrimental to their other activities.
Really tempted to jump into VR this time round if the price is right. Horizon and other experiences like it are one thing that should give it a better chance this time round.
For some games I do read through everything but I will try and gage if I'm getting anything out of it and if it's not interesting stuff or isn't going to help with the game I'll just drop it. I guess it saves a lot of time in development as well as space on the drive compared to video or audio so I get why it's an oft used thing but sometimes it does feel like there's way too much of it.
I didn’t buy PSVR but I’m tempted by 2. I’ve a few friends who rave about Quest but I’m not willing to give Facebook any money (or more data). I can imagine that a headset powered by PS5 could deliver much more immersive experiences than the Quest anyway.
Started playing RE7 so that I could then go on and play this. TBH horror games aren’t totally my thing. Not that I don’t like the scares, but for the same reason I don’t watch horror films I usually just fancy something else. I’m prepared to give this a go though as if it’s higher in the list than Returnal then it must be truly amazing!
Happy New Year to all. It’s shaping up to be a great year for PlayStation and generally a better year for human kind. NFTs could end up being the new virus thou.
Started Resi 7 last night just for something a bit different. Quite enjoyed the first bit so will probably carry on. It’s been many a year since I played an RE game so hopefully I haven’t missed any important plot points.
It’s going to have to be Horizon first followed by Elden Ring. Sifu has been relegated to a footnote which is a shame as that looks like a pretty good game.
This is the best game I’ve played all year and would be my number 1 out of the games I’ve played. It’s also going to be a game that I’ll remember and the one game that has really defined the first year of the PS5 for me.
Hades is a really enjoyable game and kept me playing all the way till I got the platinum. I know some think this should appear higher in this list than Returnal and I can see why that point might be made, there’s definitely somethings that hades does better. For me though Returnal is my favourite out of the two as I was just way more invested in the game. The character, story and the way it played made it a way more immersive experience and it was just way more fun to play.
Both great games though and would happily play them both all over again.
Me and the wife have just finished this and bagged the platinum. We both really enjoyed the story and a lot of the gameplay was especially clever. It reminded me of playing head over heals all those years ago and you both having to work together to make progress.
It’s a game that works great playing as a couple but could equally be enjoyed with another friend.
While the kids were putting some my Lego together me and the wife played some more a It Takes Two. Will also play some more Kena tonight although I’m not sure my reactions are going to be great after some wine 😆
Couldn’t agree more with the number one choice. Such a great game and I’m thinking about firing it up again over Christmas to get that Returnal goodness back.
Really tempted by Disco and F.I.S.T as they are both on sale at the moment.
This game was way beyond my abilities, or so I thought. I bought it at release and platinumed it. If I can do it then anyone can. It’s a challenging game but it’s all about having patience. Once you find your way with it it can be the most rewarding experience and it’s one of the best examples of a PS5 going.
I was still playing this a few times a week up until about the middle of the year and then just ended up getting into other games. I've actually found Wreckfest to be a more compelling game, especially the multiplayer where there's a good number of different events and it's much more fun.
I know that they've already made the arenas smaller which will go someway to making this better but it would also be good if there were some standard races in here as well, just something to mix it up a little.
Some great looking new machines. It also looks like there's a good bit of variety in the environments too with the forests, shoreline, underwater, and perhaps even desert in there as well.
Slightly worrying that there was no warning that this game was going to drop. The bosses really do look like clones of some of those out of SotC but there are human battles in this as well so perhaps that's something to set it apart.
I really hope they can make the gameplay as good as Control as it would be great to get a continuation of the story but with better gameplay than AW remastered had.
It really shows I don't play enough games being as I had only played 6 games off of that list (What have I been doing with my time??). I always feel that puts me in a bad place to make a call on what game of the year is as really it's just best game out of the games that I've played. I voted anyway and hope that Returnal comes out on top.
After finishing Control UE I’m going to make a start on Guardians of the Galaxy. Been looking forward to trying it as others have been heaping it with praise. I’ll get my first taste later after the kids are in bed.
@Would_you_kindly By giving you all the good stuff that you’d otherwise have earned through the game then there’s not much point in playing the game. As others have said that’s kind of the point of this type of game.
I’d argue that it’s actually half a game rather than a full game, and it’s also not ‘free’.

I’ll be continuing Mass Effect 1 and I might try and get a bit further in Salt and Sanctuary as I’ve been playing it on and off.
