Re: Reminder: You Must Accept PS Stars Terms of Service to Keep Earning Points

AhmadSumadi

@DennisReynolds I mean, if you’re buying enough game that you’re gonna gain enough points for this to be “lucrative” then you’re probably not really benefiting from it.

With a roughly 4% points/cash ratio, it’ll take spending nearly $500 to get about $20 in Stars to cash out. But you’re correct, “worthless to me”. As I absolutely don’t buy that many games in a calendar year.

Re: Stealth Issues Still the Focus of Star Wars Outlaws PS5 Patches

AhmadSumadi

@MikeOrator the stealth missions were tough but not unplayable. In fact, I've always found it funny how you can have instances where you're sneaking through a government facility, get caught, run a certain distance, and the guards just forget about it. I agree that there were parts of the game that were imperfect. But I didn't think the instant-fail stealth portions were it. Hell, the constant "Nix, over there..." was my most frustrating thing about the game and barely any reviewers even touched on that.

Re: Sony's Japan Studio 'Forgot What It Feels Like to Have a Hit'

AhmadSumadi

I think people often fail to realize that just because they love a game, doesn't mean the game is necessarily a success. Like, there's nothing more I want in this gaming world more than Dark Cloud 3. But the game sold roughly 1.1 million worldwide. That's not considered to be a resounding success. I hate that it works this way, but gaming is a business after all.

So when a studio like Japan Studio shuts down, even after having "fan favorite" games. You have to realize that "fan favorite" doesn't mean commercial success.

Re: Sony Wanted PS5 Exclusivity for Crimson Desert, But Dev Reportedly Declined

AhmadSumadi

@AdamNovice @get2sammyb @Frmknst I think gamers as a whole have come to see the industry only from their point of view. If games aren't geared toward them in particular then those games shouldn't exist. The past 4-6 months around here have brought me to that conclusion.

Most comments sections are littered with people who don't even care for the game they're commenting on. Just there to say they don't like it and want something else.

I've seen such diversity in this generation but most people see the opposite. I always have an analogy for this happening. It's like if you have 100 things, you give someone 90 of those 100 things, then give someone else the next 5 of those 100 things, the person who got the 90 will be upset that you've now decided to support someone else. That's basically what gaming has become; people who are upset that game companies now focus on gamers who aren't themselves.

Re: Like It or Not, This Is Why PS5 Pro Doesn't Have a Disc Drive

AhmadSumadi

For perspective, I have a friend who has 223 physical games in his collection. He has a wall full and it takes up so much space. Unsightly for a guy like me who’s an absolute minimalist.

Myself, I have a digital console with 191 games. All you see is my console and my controller. Sure, the whole “no internet” thing comes into play sometimes (it’s been only twice so far). But even then, most of my games are very much accessible internet or not.

I understand the qualms about all digital. But tech for the most part has been moving in this direction. At some point physical will no longer be an option.

Re: Opinion: The Price of Playing PS5 Games Day One Is Getting Higher and Higher

AhmadSumadi

As I read this, I realize I paid full price for Outlaws and still don’t play it as much as many of my older games. I’m through paying for day 1’s unless it’s something I love a la Uncharted, TLOU, etc.

I’ve recently bought Outlaws and Wu Kong and still play Elder Scrolls Online far more than I play those 2 games. Furthermore, I was day 1 die Diablo IV and quit it after about a month and a half. Just unwise financial decisions made by a guy who manages money.

Re: Aug 2024 USA Sales: Console Sales Take a Sharp Decline, But PS5 Is Still King

AhmadSumadi

@gollumb82 @NEStalgia Switch is essentially a kids toy (as NES stated). And as parents, we all know kids toys usually hold 6-8 months of interest after purchase. The fact that its geared toward kids as a toy does help its sales. Especially for those parents who buy 2 because the kids wanna play together.

With all honesty though, I don't know a single family that either still uses their Switch, or uses it as their main console. I can vouch for my family and say that the thing has been in a box for about 3 years now. My son is 17 and now plays PC and PS5 games. My daughter is 11 and has little interest in video games anymore. The novelty has worn off.

As far as Switch 2 though, I think it'll do great because a new batch of kids will want 1, or maybe 2, depending on the household. The price likely won't be a factor since there's nothing more parents like to do than post a video of their kids' faces opening up the gift they actually asked for on Christmas day.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Hasn't Removed Yasuke, But Dev Focused on Historical Accuracy

AhmadSumadi

@jrt87 I don't know what you're doing here but it seems your naming characters from a time where cry woke wasn't yet a thing, or wasn't as big a thing as it is now. Any of those characters, save for GTA's and 50 Cent, would be deemed "woke" by today's standards. 50 Cent is a rapper and GTA's characters are in a "Black setting". They're where they "belong". Most all the others are outside of acceptable black spaces.

And maybe Dee Jay and Balrog would be OK because they're not main characters per se.

@taciturnbloke I didn't hear too much race-based pushback against that. Not to say it doesn't exist. But when I hear things like people were saying they felt less bad about Rue dying in the Hunger Games film because the actress was Black it kinda leaves a bad taste. Like, you see a child get killed and because she's Black you have less sympathy. It's kind of sick. But there are so many examples of this. Sorry to get off topic.
