Not for me, I had a quick look and didn't think that there was anything on it that would improve my experience of turning a console on and going into the game I wanna play.
Been dragged back into my long running FM24 save. Got Frostpunk 2 on PC to start after buying day 1 Got Astro to start Been flitting between Dead Space Remake and SH2 for some spooky fun
Had enough coins that I managed to pick this up for under £10, so if it's not my thing, no great loss. And the kid will no doubt enjoy it, so not a total waste.
I never liked it anyway, so I'm not all that fussed by it, but we are gonna get to the stage shortly where we are remastering games before they a even released.
Bet it looks super amazing as a launch game for the shiny new £800 console tho
Ha PCs are too complicated. Trying to convince himself or the casual gamer?
Never mind, they really aren't difficult at all.
Do I prefer to plug in a console and play? Sure, but I like to tinker as well so a PC would be no problem to me, the additional cost isn't an issue, and if I'm laying down £700+ to game (and really it would be closer to £900 by the time we include a disk drive, stand and additional dual sense), it sure as hell won't be on a console where I am locked into an ecosystem and locked hardware.
If this is the price point where console gaming is heading towards for the next gen, I'll be taking my money and putting it into a PC where I can play what little I play online for free, where I can sink as much or a little as I want into it at any given time, where I have a multitude of store fronts and sites to purchase games, where I can take a mouse and keyboard for my strategy games, a control pad to play Forza, then maybe switch it up to Spiderman afterwards.
Yeah, consoles are more convenient to a point, but I think if this pricing is the way forward, it will have reached the point where the convenience just doesn't provide value for money for me.
Now that I have settled down, surely this now sets the tone for the pricing for the PS6.
And if that's the case, I'll switch fully over to PC, if I'm paying that sort of money for a console, which will have a mid gen refresh in 3/4 years, I'd rather up my budget and control my own upgrades.
See for me the best example of live service, done fairly well by Sony, is GT7, new cars, challenges, tracks etc.
To me that was live service done quite well, although it's been a while since I played, so maybe that's changed?
A game like Astros Playroom getting a wee update here and there after launch isn't even a stretch to claim it's live service, that's total nonsense, otherwise every game is live service.
Games that get patches for bugs fixes, optimisation etc, or small free content update (say akin to The Witcher 3 when they released a dozen or so freebies) are not live service.
Live service is an ever evolving game, whether f2p with battle passes etc, full priced and evolving like GT7 or Splatoon, or worse, full price with MTX like EAFC with Ultimate Team.
We as a community all know what live services is taken to mean, this article reminds me of that guy at a party who gets drunk and goes all devils advocate thinking he real smart.
I'll pick this up on PC down the line once the expansions and such are out, I imagine it could feel a little lacking day one compared to 6, although maybe the changes will be enough...
@SMcCrae95 - Limmy leading us to a cultural victory sounds about right.
@DennisReynolds I've set it up that way, been on for about an hour and it seems a bit smoother, but I have mainly been exploring, not been in a town since I have updated. Dunno if I'm just imagining it, will see once I get back to a town
@DennisReynolds how you finding those settings? I'll fire it up later on to test but was thinking of leaving the RT on if the boost won't be significant
It's a no from me, I'm not spending another penny on hardware from this gen, my next will be the PS6.
Gives me pause though. I buy a console for convenience, because I can drop a maybe say £1000 (roughly obviously) every 7/8 years and I'll have the latest offerings from Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft (more this gen because I bought a Steam Deck).
If the gens are likely to be come less defined and the updates more iterative, then if I'm honest I will be more likely to drop consoles completely (possibly with the exception of Nintendo) and just go for a PC.
If I'm expected to spend more money more often to keep up with the requirements to play, I sure ain't doing it for a console, I'll control my own upgrades thank you.
Won't be for me, I've bought the PS5, thats as far as I go for spending this gen (with Sony) for hardware. I'll keep my money for a PS6 or finally flit fully to PC.
As much as I love gaming and have have enough to spend on picking up consoles, I draw the line at dropping a load of cash on a mid gen refresh.
I can honestly say I would probably never have known much about the MTX had it not been on blast all over the gaming media, that's how inconsequential they are. I don't agree with them, wished they hadn't done it, but it's not like a play to win type MTX so it's not impacted my game.
I don't think MTX are going away any time soon, so if I have to accept them then this is the sort I can grudgingly accept.
Performance is iffy and I'll be honest, I expected before starting that I would have to set it aside. I admit I can be a bit of a 60fps snob depending on the genre, and I expected I wouldn't be able to cope with this.
But it's so enjoyable I have been able to push past it to the point where I have managed to cope with the pop in npcs, frame drops etc.
Still, it would be good if they can't get some fixes in place for the stuttering and make it more stable overall.
Football today but once I am home later will be firing up Dragons Dogma 2, put in a few hours last night, this morning and it is hooking me in already.
That's the problem with the internet, whilst it can be a fantastic resource for many things, it's also gives every self entitled f**kwit the ability make people's lives miserable.
Social media and a lack of education on how to behave online has a lot to answer for.
This one isn't for me anyway so I'm alway gonna have a view of it that it's not worth it (to me) regardless. I was a huge fan of the first, was bored to tears with the second.
But I don't think we need to be doing this for games that are less than 5 years old, even 10 years old.
Take the Resident Evil Remakes. Those I was willing to spend money on, a complete redo of the games, better controls, better graphics, changes here and there to bring them more in line with today standards.
Fantastic Remakes, (even though 3 is meh), worth the money.
This, even for £10, just isn't worth it to me.
I also don't like the definitive way to play arguement. I mean yeah, it's right, obviously, but they can easily trot this out when we hit the PS7 and we are on the 3rd remaster of TLOU 2... Only another £15 if you had the PS4, 5 and 6 version!
RE2 Remake is a superb game, can't fathom why someone would say this (or the original for that matter) is the worst of the series. RE3 & 5 were definitely worse than RE2. IMO of course.
Meh month for me on Extra. Own anything that would take my fancy, the rest I can't see me putting any time into, too many games I have my eye on coming up.

Re: GOTY Dark Horse Balatro's Popularity Explodes Following TGA Nomination
@nessisonett exactly this, superb game, easily the most fun I have had this year with a game, with Astro running it close.
Re: Disgruntled PS5 Pro Owners Campaign to Disable Support After Slew of Shoddy Patches
And here I was being told it was game changing as well.
Can't say this surprised me at, the amount of stock people put in this machine to be the magic fixall.
Glad you all get to beta test it before they implement their new tech properly in the PS6 though!
Re: LEGO Horizon Adventures Sets Odd Precedent, Lacking PS5 Pro Support
Never mind it not having Pro Support, I can't believe it wasn't the first Pro Exclusive.
Re: Hands On: The Last of Us 2 Marries Visuals and Frame Rate in PS5 Pro Game Changer
@Toot1st it has changed THE game
Re: Hands On: The Last of Us 2 Marries Visuals and Frame Rate in PS5 Pro Game Changer
A PS4 game (that's been remastered already) looking good with a graphics bump on a console 2 steps down the road, game changer 😂😂😂
Love a good dose of hyperbole to keep the slow Mondays alive.
Can't imagine why my visits here are less common with game changing articles about every pro game
Re: Cash Rewards Still Unavailable for Millions in PS5, PS4 Rewards Scheme PS Stars
I managed to redeem for £10 this morning after agreeing the new terms.
Notice it has changed to £5 and £10 instead of £5 and £20, rate still the same as before though
Re: Poll: Are You Using the PS5's New Welcome Hub?
Not for me, I had a quick look and didn't think that there was anything on it that would improve my experience of turning a console on and going into the game I wanna play.
Pointless really.
Re: PS5's New Welcome Page Rolling Out to UK Accounts
Needless clutter, an option to turn it off would be nice
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 550
Urgh I have so much to play at the moment.
Been dragged back into my long running FM24 save.
Got Frostpunk 2 on PC to start after buying day 1
Got Astro to start
Been flitting between Dead Space Remake and SH2 for some spooky fun
And I wanna buy Refantazio
Re: First Review Scores for PS5's Metaphor: ReFantazio, Silent Hill 2 Are Glowing
Hoping Silent Hill gets solid reviews... Will probably pick it up regardless unless everyone says it's horrendous.
Was going to make it my game to spend my Christmas holiday on but I'll probably crack if it reviews well.
Re: Sony's Live Service Push 'No Joke', A Lot of People Working on Horizon Online
Given I thought HZD was turgid and I dislike online multiplayer, hard pass for me.
Imagine it might do well if done right though.

Re: PS Plus Essential Games for October 2024 Announced
I never did get around to buying the DeadSm Space remake so that suits nicely for Halloween. The other two, meh.
First time in month I will bother to actually download an Essential game
Re: Surreal Adventure Hell Is Us Debuts Otherworldly Gameplay on PS5
Will be keeping an eye on this
Re: Palworld Announced for PS5, and It's Out Today
Gonna pick this up once the listing goes live
Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Sony's State of Play for September 2024?
Good few I am interested in there, the Ghost reveal was a welcome surprise.
Re: Frostpunk 2 Dev Recoups Entire Marketing, Production Budget in Three Days
Loved the first, bought the second on release but yet to fire it up, saving it for my weeks holiday at the start of October.
Glad it seems to be doing well though
Re: Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed (PS5) - Substantial Updates Paint Over Flaws of Beloved Platformer
Tempted by this, might pick it up over Xmas for a nice we family game with the kid
Re: Reaction: Why There Are So Many Unnecessary PS5 Remasters for Games That Don't Need Them
I think this is the first time I have been bored of my Playstation.
I remember my parents stumping up for the first one at launch... Gaming was so much fun back then.
Now a games barely even launched and had a first sale and it's getting a remaster
Re: Rumour: Days Gone PS5 Remaster Speculation Starts to Spread
I have sat here and criticised every remaster, and this one is no different.
But it will be one I would at least pay a £10 upgrade for.
Re: Horizon Zero Dawn's PS5, PC Remaster Is Very Much the Real Deal

Haaaaaaaaaaa £700 and no disc drive.
Well played Sony, well played.

Re: PS Portal Is By Far the UK's Most Popular Gaming Accessory Right Now

Nah, not for me this one, I was tempted but reviews put me off.

Football today but once I am home later will be firing up Dragons Dogma 2, put in a few hours last night, this morning and it is hooking me in already.
Re: Fresh PS Plus Extra Racing Game Will Be the 'Ultimate NFS Experience'
Hmmm might install this again if there are to be more updates, enjoyable enough game.
Re: Poll: Are You Playing Skull and Bones?
I would have maybe been interested if it wasn't £70 and live service.
If I'm paying £70 for a live service game then it needs to be a AAAAAA and not a merely AAAA game.
Re: Poll: Which Xbox Franchises Would You Buy on PS5?
Having also got/had XBoxes this isn't really a huge thing for me.
That said if I could keep it to just having a Playstation that would be super.
So if we could have Forza/Horizon, Fable, State of Decay and Fallout that would be perfect.
Never really got on with Halo or Gears of War, wasn't a fan of Sunset Overdrive...
But really, I don't see this as all that exciting.

BG3. Just BG3.
