Re: New Chinese Rules Could Change Some of PS5, PS4's Biggest Games

Mintie

@McBurn How would you monetise the game to fund its perpetual growth? $100 would buy you a lot of game, but it wouldn't fund the kind of expansions that games like Genshin get.

Maybe keep the expansions free but charge for the new characters - Include the base character and some materials, but also add into the game content to unlock the full potential of the character, have the upgrades attached to level milestone or character story progress.

Re: PS5 Really Will Benefit from Baldur's Gate 3's Xbox Version

Mintie

This patch cannot arrive soon enough, I've been having withdrawal from the game since having to put it on hold. I do hope that the fix actually works, I just want to go see if all the Teiflings are still kicking for that trophy!

If I do get that trophy then my next playthrough will be as an S tier **** Dark Urge!

Re: Creative Assembly to Refocus on Strategy Games Following Hyenas Debacle

Mintie

Hyenas, like pretty much any competitive FPS, was doomed to failure... and I'm not sure if Creative Assembly can be blamed for it, it smacked of an owner mandated idea to begin with.

I'm glad they're getting to continue with what they're good at, but man would I love to see them do something like Alien Isolation again because that game was pitch perfect.

@CWill97 he moves and plays more like a Dark Souls/Bloodborne boss (He has the same animation rig as the Cleric Beast), which up until that point you had spent the whole game unlearning normal souls stuff.

My fave fight in the whole of Sekiro remains the second Owl fight, it was just so satisfying.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 504

@CWill97 DoH was a strange thing to fight

  • When he jumps, run away and grapple back to him when he belly flops the ground
  • Stay on his ass and keep slapping it, you can parry the stomps but I always blocked and moved away
  • During the phase transitions just run the heck away
  • Use the whistle ring tool thingy in phase 3, it works three times in a row
  • You can jump over his running arm out clothesline attacks
  • When he does the mult-fireballs you can dodge them by sprinting to the side
    • When he does the big line of fire slams you can jump to the side and grapple to him to dodge them.

Here's my first successful run of him from... FOUR YEARS AGO!? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rYAjGxai38

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 504

Mintie

@GuttyYZ It got much much worse since I posted my original post... Rivington and the Lower City are actually unplayable, looking at the forums it seems a common issue and weirdly Larian are being very quiet instead of their usual transparent selves. I'll probably have to put it aside for now and play something else.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 504

I am still trundling merrily through Baldur's Gate 3, reached act 3 after 105hrs and still loving it even if the crashes and cutscene hangs have been piling up. I wish the whole thing was as polished as act 1 and can't help wondering if it needed and 6 months if testing and polish... All that being said I do look forward to some Dark Urge fun times in playthrough 2!

Re: Elden Ring, Dark Souls Dev FromSoftware Beefing Up for Multiple New PS5 Games

Mintie

A bit like Dark Souls was a multiplatform extension of the PS Exclusive Demon's Souls I'm hoping they're working on a Gothic/Eldritch Horror game to supplant Metal Ge.... Bloodborne.

But... but... What I really want is a game where the world isn't already ruined and in decay, maybe it ends that way but at least at the start I'd like to enter a village and be greeting with a 'Inn's down that way, Adventurer!' before the Estus hits the Poison Swamp!

I finally, fully finished Cyberpunk, still a little wobbly in places but that 2.0 update turned from a borked mess to something actually worth playing. (Phantom Liberty was a lovely -tragic- cherry on top)

But now I have turned my gaze back to Monster Hunter Rise, I bought Sunbreak to play with a couple friends who bailed and I'm bored of waiting for them so I'm just going in solo (being able to bring Followers along now is brilliant)

My birthday at the start of November and there i shall finally get Baldur's Gate 3!

Re: Assassin's Creed Mirage (PS5) - A Solid But Slightly Dated Return to the Series' Roots

Mintie

It's rare I miss an AC game on day one and if I wasn't already elbow deep in Cyberpunk and some real world capital S Stuff I'd already be parkouring around as Basim... Buuuut I'm too busy finally, actually enjoying Cyberpunk!

I'll probably pick up this shorter AC as a palate cleanser before I finally jump into BG3 knowing full well that game will last me upto FFVII Rebirth (and probably beyond)

Re: Assassin's Creed Is All About Stealth Again, as New Mirage Gameplay Shows

Mintie

@Nightcrawler71 yeah Cyberpunk finally sunk its Mantis Blades in me with the update and expansion and I still have Baldur's Gate 3... I think I'm good until next year even though there are loads of good looking titles coming out... I'll stick a few on my crimbo wishlist but otherwise I'll be picking up a lot during the early '24 sales.

Re: Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.5 - Growing Light Signals the Beginning of the End

Mintie

@Kienda it is massive, buuuuuuuut you could slowly play through the free trial which covers a massive chunk of content and doesn't have much in the way of restrictions. One of the biggest bits of advice I can give someone is to play it at your own pace, don't feel like you have to rush through anything or that you have to do everything.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 495

Finished Starfield through NG++ and now it is time to put that down for a bit, 100% the best 7/10 game this year, possibly in many years. It is everything I wanted and expected out of a Bethesda space RPG without a single surprising thing.

I managed to get Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 running fairly well on my PC, I couldn't quite get a locked 60 so I've opted for a visually stunning 4k30 (locked 30 will always be preferable to jittery 60, always) so I started a fresh run and may continue that for this lazy Sunday

I've got some stressful real life ***** coming up over the next week so I'm not exactly in the right frame of mind to start something completely new, but once I have this irl stuff behind me I'm grabbing BG3 to celebrate surviving tedious bureaucracy.

Re: Urban-Themed Open World RPG Project Mugen Looks Stunning in Developer-Led Gameplay

Mintie

@homelesscretin obviously can't answer for everyone who plays stuff like Genshin, but I treat it like a gap filler game in-between big releases or as a palette cleanser. For example I just finished Starfield, sunk 150hrs into it and next up on deck is Baldur's Gate 3... but before I dive into another massive game I'm going to spend a week with Genshin doing the MSQ that I've fallen behind on, I probably won't get anywhere near the end of the current update but I'll knock out a satisfying chunk and move on.

FFXIV on the other hand is my 'forever game', although at the moment I log on in the evening for an hour to get dailies done and more importantly talk to my best mate and a few others on Discord. But around major updates it takes up more time and expansions get the no-life treatment from both of us.

I get how some people see these games as becoming more of a commitment than something fun to play but for me it's either purely for fun as well as a way to keep in touch with friends who aren't easy to see often irl.

My advice for jumping into something like Genshin is do it in chunks and don't worry about the idea of fully catching up. The game's main quest is broken up into very clear quest-lines so it'll be obvious what's a good stopping point when you want to crack on with something else.

Re: Poll: Was Sony's Latest State of Play Worth the Wait?

Mintie

Loved it, new Vanillaware game and an expansion for Tales of Arise! I would've been more than sated with just those two so the FF7 Rebirth trailer with a release date was a MUHASSIVE cherry on top.

Not everything in a showcase has to be for me, but this gave me enough.

edit - wait, was the Vanillaware game in this or the Ninty Direct? Either way there's more games for meeeeee on everything!]

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 492

Mintie

Starfield on PC, just turned the difficulty way down because the bullet sponginess wasn't worth the occasional Legendary enemy's loot and the game is that massive that I can probably save myself a whole days worth of hours over the entire playthrough.

That being said... I am REALLY enjoying it so far.
