Thank you for the review! My childhood game is Castle of Illusion and this has always kind of interested me and reminded of it a little bit. I just finished Astro Bot, though, and I fear it might pale in comparison.
Good luck on Thursday, everyone! I think whatever insane price that Pro bundle will be carrying, it's gonna be scalped to death ;_;
@OldGamer999 @jrt87 at least they haven't inserted a Portal in the bundle XD also if we sell the pro controller we will have compromised the integrity of the bundle forever.
So the actual peak number is about 35k, still a lot lower than the original GOW. It must be said that Ragnarok is more like a direct sequel, even a "part 2" of one big game...and being a cinematic action game with rpg elements is not as cool as it was a couple of years ago.
I hope in the future Sony will limit its pc outings to live service games (same day and date) and just don't bother with these single player pc ports 2 years down the line.
@d0x360 this kind of port would suppose they are investing more capital into them, invalidating the whole point of the PS pc ports: having more profit margin for games with long development cycles..
This is pretty far in the future and it might change a lot. I think the Ps5 will have a very interesting later life cycle with a lot of projects coming to fruition.
I hope they learnt from the X/S situation that it is not really that convenient to have two different SKUs to develop for: and for those mentioning Ps4 cross-gen games, we're fully past the Ps4 for big projects, we've actually been there a long while...
With the commercial success of the Switch, the great buzz around SteamDeck and the surprising sales of the Portal, it makes sense they are at least exploring their possibilities.
I really don't want a "Switch" as it's an unappealing (for me) machine that is not a reliable home console or a viable portable. It is just stuck in a limbo where it's the worst place you can play your games on and I only touch it for the rare must-play Nintendo exclusive (TOTK is the last title I played there).
@Keyblade-Dan @PuppetMaster I think, as many do, that Tabata and his team actually salvaged a functioning and engaging game from something that was stuck in development hell too long, so er shouldnāt really put them (or Nomura) to blame.
I like Nomura as a creative consultant and designer but I also feel like Rebirth greatly benefited from him not being the director and the game we got makes Remake feel like a glorified demo.
@jrt87 thatās only happening because they didnāt manage to setup a functional eshop across platforms tied to the same account and while I do think we will retain our account on the switch successor, itās shocking they have been selling the same game at full price for 3-4 generations and really shouldnāt get a free pass for that. Greediest company out of the 3, by far.
I like my pointless remasters only when Nintendo publishes them at full price and no upgrade path whatsoever. Looking forward to Donkey kong country returns: Tiki Tongās fury day for the Switch 2.
Wishlist and saved for a deep sale in the future, maybe. I found the whole remake kind of pointless tbh, but the core fighting is fun and the OST is superb. Canāt wait for ReFantasio
My only gripe with the game is that it will not last me forever š„² loving every moment.
Edit: I did encounter a single bug, though: there were some revolving platforms that had spikes on just one side but the game would still kill Astro if I jumped on the no-spike side. Exited the level and it fixed itself
Eh, it's only natural they are developing the PS6.
I am baffled by the blatant use of the "no games" meme in a year where the discourse has been pretty much completely dominated by PlayStation exclusives like Rebirth, Stellar Blade and Astro (all potentials goty imho). And it's a platform that also has been graced by every relevant multi-platform game and has even started receiving ports of his major competitor's exclusives in 2024. Some people really want to hate at all costs
9,5 for me so I voted 9. A delight to play and to look at, easily surpassing the excellent Mario Odyssey while providing the sheer technological wonder the Switch never packed and solidly landing into Mario Galaxyās ābest in its classā territory.
Nitpicks for me are the use of motion controls in some levels (not a fan) and the fact its many brilliant ideas never elevate it to game changer. Itās pure joy though! If something batcr*** insane as Rebirth didnāt exist, this would be my goty
@UltimateOtaku91 yeah exactly what came through my mind. I donāt like metacritic too much but a game with a high meta score is probably a very good game. Rebirth, Astrobot, Balatro and Erdtree are the best games I played this year, probably with Stellar Blade (still very decent metascore) and they couldnāt be more diverse ā¦so what formula?
Yes, I hate to have to choose between performance and fidelity so this is right up my alley. Also had a great experience with Ps4 Pro last gen. It seems like everyone is finding it mad expensive so I think I could get one at launch this time? took me 2 months to get a ps5 at normal price.
Ah yes, a timed exclusive for an audience that plays almost only Nintendo 1st party releases. It will go down just as well as Disgaea 6ā¦at least itās coming though!
@NoHope just Europe, I think ps5 will end its life cycle selling very well but less than the Switch that other than its sheer popularity is more on the portable console side of things more child-friendly, lends itself better to multiple purchases in the same household, has many different iterations on the market etc.
@NoHope to be honest Nintendo home consoles were never extremely popular in Europe from before PlayStation was even a thing, with Segaās Master System and Megadrive ending up being popular choices in the 8-bit and 16-bit era. Gameboy was a smash hit and Wii and Switch have been solid but as mentioned by @ChrisDeku ps4 sold way more and I fully expect PS5 to outsell Switch by the end of its life cycle.
1. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. It's everything I hoped it would be and more. One of the greatest JRPGs I played, so much more interesting than the beloved original game.. 2. Stellar Blade. Itās so much my thing i sometimes think my mind manifested the game. In a year without FF7R would have easily been my pick. 3. Balatro. So addicting and well designed! Took control of my mind for one month.
I really thought Dragon's Dogma 2 would be on this list as I have been waiting for years for it, having immensely loved the original game. I enjoyed DD2 but it was nothing close to the mind-blowing experience that, at times, the first Dragon Dogma had been for me.
I am not surprised but it was a pipe dream of mine to see him return for one chapter, it would have been cool. Itās pretty neat he still lays and enjoys the series and he is way less conservative and mind-caged than some FF fans.
Sad that Lost Odyssey is not being considered for modern platformsā¦Blue dragon, no thank you š«¶š»š
Interesting read. I potentially like these games! I got very into Trails in the sky, surviving the pace and enjoying the care for every detail. These more modern entries though rub me the wrong way with the graphic presentationā¦I would love them to try retro-pixel art or some kind of HD2D.
I cannot think of many series that I would like to return more than crazy taxi and JSR! Open world sounds like a good fit for it, praying it will live up to the original games.
I donāt want to be perceived as overly critical but for me āmore of the sameā doesnāt really apply to DLCs the same way it does to sequels. We are buying it because we want more of the sameā¦ I was perfectly satisfied with FF16 dlc and it was precisely more of the same, and Iād gladly buy more of Stellar Blade if I could.
@Ralizah Eh, I mean ā¦a couple of samey Nintendo mid/low tier projects that have yet the same tone and characters. I honestly would give Ballad of Antara a try over them anytime if I had gaming time to spare š¤·š¼āāļø
Excited for Metroid, itās good to see the project is alive and I hope they are planning to release it on the Switch successor as well
@IOI Nintendo show was filled with remasters and HD re-releases. The slightly interesting ones are multi-platform titles. If Sony did that, the internet would catch fire.
Played it on my iMac, I thought it wasnāt bad and it had its own aesthetic but after the initial enthusiasm, I lost interest. Maybe it will āfeelā different on a console
Sadly it wonāt probably be nearly as ambitious as VII remake project and more just like a cosmetic update ā¦ and people will praise it like itās a good thing because they actually want to play the same game over and over again. But hey, surprise me.
The original is fabulously charming but too conservative gameplay-wise compared to other installments for me so it ranks as one of my least favorite games in the seriesā¦
@Decimateh-xblz there is no āsocial activity managementā in this game. Setting aside itās a pretty āclassicā JRPG, bordering on archaic dungeon crawling and donāt get me wrong, it can be a lot of fun.
