Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 550

@mac_da_man Glad you had a mostly bug free experience! The strange thing about the trophies is, I got the game to start giving me trophies again by deleting and reinstalling the game. So I have a bunch of trophies in the middle missing, and then I got the story trophies after them that I should not be able to have without first getting the others!

Apparently this is a known bug that the developer has been trying to patch for a while to no avail. I find it annoying but also fascinating-I haven’t encountered anything like it with a PS game before.

Still: RoboCop and Terminator are excellent games. Which 80s property should they tackle next? Someone here suggested Total Recall, which would be amazing!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 550

@mac_da_man I just finished Terminator Resistance too, and really enjoyed it. Just like Robocop Rogue City, they got the atmosphere of that world perfect. I would have been happy if the story of Resistance had been the sequel to T2 instead of Rise of the Machines.

My only complaint is that the Enhanced edition was really buggy, with some crashes etc. Most strangely, Some trophies I earned refused to pop, including unmissable story trophies even though I completed the game. I have never seen story trophies not pop before. Still a good game.

I am now playing El Paso Elsewhere. Fun, Max Payne meets supernatural horror game perfect for spooky season.

Re: Star Wars Outlaws' Rescue Roadmap Provides a Snapshot of Modern PS5 Gaming

Westernwolf4

I finished this game last week and enjoyed it. Flawed but fun. I put in about 50 hours and got very few bugs. Some flickering on some ship launches and one time where a glass was hanging in midair over a cantina bar. That is it.

I just….I don’t see how any patch fixes what people did not like about this. I really liked it-the Star Wars atmosphere is off the charts. But I just think the stealth base of the game and a pretty slight story turned a lot of people off.

I want the game to do well-I would play a sequel for sure. But I don’t think this is a matter of polish or a patch. I think a lot of folks are rejecting what the game is. I don’t think that is fixable.

Re: Random: Xbox Boss Complains About X Button After Being Handed PS5 Pad

Westernwolf4

I have a Series X and a PS5, and what I usually do is play both for about six months out of the year-3 month game pass purchase and back to PS5. This is the hardest part-I have been mostly a Playstation guy since the PS1 days; my current Xbox is my first one. Every time I go on an Xbox run, I spend weeks pressing the A button when I am supposed to be pressing X. That button belongs on the bottom dang it!

Also, the red PS5 controller shown here is my favorite one!

I rolled credits on SW Outlaws last night. The flaws were so evident, so I understand why it did not do well to start. But…..I had a big stupid grin on my face the whole time I played. It just oozes Star Wars. It really felt like being placed in a story during the Return of the Jedi era. The point of gaming is to have fun, and I certainly did.

This weekend, I start my spooky season line-up! El Paso Elsewhere, The Quarry, Still Wakes the Deep and V Rising are all getting time as we move through October!

Re: Mini Review: Wild Bastards (PS5) – Way More Bastards, But a Lot More Void

Westernwolf4

This is a well written review like all are on PS, and I understand that the mini-review format means more reviews of games. But I am on the fence about this game, and I think it could have benefitted from the full review treatment. Because of space limitations, I read this and don’t really understand the weaknesses of the game. The gameplay needs to be pushed further, but what does that mean? What is it missing?

Re: Star Wars Outlaws PS5 Patch 1.1.2 Has Trophy Fixes, Easier Stealth Missions

Westernwolf4

@crossbit I am so glad you raised the check point issue, because that is a big one too. I have lost a couple chunks of progress from guard I didn’t see in the corner after stealthing carefully. There really are not enough checkpoints during those sections.

You used the perfect word in your response to me to describe the system: archaic. The game is really fun, but it could have been even more with a deeper system.

Re: Star Wars Outlaws PS5 Patch 1.1.2 Has Trophy Fixes, Easier Stealth Missions

Westernwolf4

The stealth in the game is not generally overly difficult, but what I think (hope?) they are fixing in the insta-fail stealth missions are the times when detection is broken. In the first mission of that type, which I think is the one getting the most complaints, there were a number of times when the prompts came up for me to do a stealth take-down, the animation would start with Kay popping up, but then I would register as caught instead of completing it. That is the kind of stuff I hope this is fixing.

I also don’t think we should be doing insta-stealth fail in 2024. Blasting your way out should always be an option!

I am really enjoying Outlaws. The atmosphere is fantastic. But for a game with so much stealth, I really wish they had done more with it. The ability to move bodies, wear disguises and no insta fails would have been good starts.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 544

Star Wars Outlaws. A lot of flaws in the game, but I am having fun. The Star Wars vibe in this is off the charts (especially sound design) and that is carrying the experience so far.

My wife got me a shirt with Han Solo’s face on it that says: “I know” on our trip to Disney this year. I have been wearing it the whole time I play! This means I am approaching it with the right spirit, and also that my wife married a nerd.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Star Wars Outlaws?

Westernwolf4

Yes. It has obvious flaws that were well covered by the PS review. But the Star Wars atmosphere is really well done. So far that is carrying me past the flaws, and I am having fun. It certainly won’t be for everyone.

Re: Interview: Wild Bastards Dev on Why You Should Be Gunning for This Slick Sci-Fi Shooter on PS5

Westernwolf4

I finished the first game, and it was fine but I don't think I liked it as much as most people. Something about the combat and the loop just felt off to me.

But this has been on my radar for a while, and it looks great. I love the art style, the idea of managing the different characters and agendas, and I am a sucker for anything with a wild west theme. I am looking forward to playing this.

I also really enjoyed the interview!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 538

Westernwolf4

@mac_da_man Reading this feature each week, I noticed that we started and Platted Rise of the Ronin at almost the same time, and that our opinions of it are pretty much the same. I also really enjoyed it, but share your evaluation of the flaws. Kind of an odd game in a lot of ways, but a lot of fun.

Congrats on finishing the game! Glad you liked it too!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 538

Westernwolf4

I recently got the platinum for Rise of the Ronin, a relatively rare event for me. I can see why that game is not everyone’s cup of tea, but I really enjoyed it. Especially the combat.

I am now playing Callisto Protocol, which is ok. Kind of a slog. Every review I read about it is right: There is fun to be had, but Dead Space it ain’t.

Re: Sunset Overdrive PS5 Port Not Happening, Insomniac's Too 'Busy'

Westernwolf4

@clvr I wrote that in my view the main virtue of the SO games is the traversal, not that the stories should be compared. I am aware that one is a shooter and one isn’t. Traversal is the main draw of the game, and it is done better in Spider-Man.

I think my point was plainly stated, and not that complicated.

Re: Sunset Overdrive PS5 Port Not Happening, Insomniac's Too 'Busy'

Westernwolf4

I just played this for the first time on Game Pass a few months ago. It was one that I always wanted to get to, but I did not have an Xbox when it was released. It was fun! I finished it fully and am glad I finally played it.

But, for those disappointed about lack of a port, please know that Insomniac has made much better games since Sunset Overdrive. The best part of the game is the motion as you grind across the city. That sense of motion and freedom of movement has been perfected by the Spider-Man games. So, while SO is absolutely a good game, I don't think folks are missing out on too much if they don't play it. The focus on the game is absolutely on gameplay and not story, and if you played any of the Spider-Man games you have already played a better, more modern version of what SO has to offer in that department.

Some of the weapons are really fun though! But again, Ratchet and Clank exists...........
