I’d love a 2.5D glow up, keep most of it as it was with some modern flourishes, maybe some good voice acting. I t’s such a beautiful story full of wonderful (and some frankly unhinged) characters, where almost everyone has sweeping arcs. Just please don’t make us do 100 rope skips again with terrible delayed timing
@thefourfoldroot1 100% agree, and luckily it is taught in schools. I think it’s a powerful lesson that seems to have been forgotten, with this global rise in the far right and neo-fascism.
But also hard to make a proper conclusion on this specific game without context, maybe it’s the opposite, they didn’t want to offend neo-Nazis. Doubtful though, not sure they’re a key demographic of non-pornographic Japanese VN’s, but we still don’t know enough to make a snap judgement.
ITS POLITICAL CORRECTNESS GONE MAYAD! But actually sounds sensible, it could cause issues with distribution, even if obviously not pro-Nazi the iconography and theme might conflict with various T&C’s.
Plus ‘Dictator X’ gives it a nice global feel, is it Hitler? Mousellouini? Kim Jong un? Mr T? The Action Man villain who had a great design but not sure what his actual deal was?
Finally, an excellent month for all entries, varied but all games I’d love to play but was wary about investing in - time to start another potentially endless RPG I guess
Very much looking forward to buying and starting this next month, when I’ve got the expendable ££ - it sounds like a fantastic experience, it’s wonderful for a new studio to knock it out the park.
@sorteddan I started that recently too. It’s the thief of time, sleep and general life.
I’m going to try and break free from its grasp and finish off Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and then go back to the other massive time sink in my life, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous
They keep releasing these live-action games without really promoting any hook or novelty, besides a nice art style.
What separates this from Concorde, from Suicide Squad, heck, even the online parts of Mass Effect: Andromeda? You run, you gun, you get experience to run and gun better. Maybe there is more to it, but that’s what needs to be pushed.
Not wildly surprised, I’ve not a couple of issues with all these ports to other consoles:
Terrible advertising (if any)
Priced too high for older games
Offer them at £30, treat it like the launch of a new game, address any underlying critiques where you can in a patch.
Shame though, I think 16 is easily the best since 10. It has some astronomically bizarre pacing issues, but when it comes to crunch points it hits incredible heights. I’ve not been so excited playing a game for years at those points. It just follows those up with “QUICK, HERO, BRING US SAND” quests for a couple hours
This was looking dire until the second half - Katamari id love to revisit, original was glorious, madcap Japanese fun. Eiyuden has been on my wishlist for ages, and Endless Dungeon has me intrigued. Train Sim might get a look in, depending how wild I’m feeling
I don’t think anyone’s going into this expecting the greatest action game ever made - but if we get a janky fun takes-itself-seriously-to-unintended-hilarious-heights rollercoaster I’ll be intrigued.
As long as there’s strong RPG elements I’ll be sold, I’d love to be able to explore a big map, make big decisions for my settlement and form or break alliances through different means.
Or just give me a fishing game and the ability to name my villagers and warriors dumb names. Either/or
I’m sure a lot of time and effort has gone into the game, and £70 isn’t therefore unfair to ask, but it won’t sell at that price.
I enjoyed the first game, but it had a weird, clinical feel to it at points, devoid of love, which multiple people I’ve spoken to felt. You can’t sell a full price sequel well when the original was a “I think I liked it?” Bought in a deep sale
The atmosphere and world look fantastic, but apprehensive about the “30 Days and Nights” - not a fan of overall game time limits, especially in open world affairs, but will see how it goes.
I’m over 100 hours in - there have been performance issues, but it’s only crashed a handful of times, I think I’m one of the lucky ones. The fact I’ve just been running around doing bs instead of many guild or main quests may be what’s saved me. Still not got any Oblivion hates though, just ran right past Kvatch, bliss.
@DennisReynolds that’s fair! 60 frames would be pretty swish. There are just moments where I have to remind myself it’s not already a PS5 game, with the graphics, scale, physics and lighting.
Looks interesting! wonder if there’ll be a Japanese with sub versions - I’m not a purist, but the voice acting sounds a bit distracting. Music sounds beautiful too
It looks absolutely stunning as it is, outperforming many ‘native’ PS5 games, so I don’t think there’s been a lot of clamouring for a PS5 patch. But it’ll be great to see, as long as it’s free for people who already own the game
It might just be a tech demo, but it’s an incredibly impressive one. The atmosphere and characterisation I’m sure will carry through, and it looks absolutely on point for The Witcher.
Very excited to see how this pans out, I’ll never pre-order a CD Projekt Red game again, but I will have money ready to go at release if it releases stable
It looks fun, like the latest robocop mixed with GTA….delivered, by the looks of it, far too seriously. Hopefully some unintended humour will keep it breezy though.
I’m not really interested in any of these, may check out Alone in the Dark, but at least it’s varied. I just wish the bonus 4th game was a game and not a DLC, I suppose that’s why it’s a bonus.
They did a fantastic job of hiding it away as best they could, the fact you had to access it through the website and not the console itself was terrible, and likely obtuse by design.
A loyalty system is fantastic for the consumer, but I can’t see a company like Sony doing something that might eat into maximising their profits.
70-ish hours and one crash, with a few minor inconveniences fixed with a close and re-open of the game. I’d definitely appreciate sone QOL updates though, the inventory and magic is a nightmare to navigate. Spells particularly. 8 quick use slots isn’t near enough
Sounds great! Can’t wait for Skyrim: The JRPG, AKA This Time It’s Hamfisted Climate Change Subplot AKA Stop Right There Mysterious Black Rot AKA I Used To Be Adventurer Like You Then I Got This Gravity Defying Rad Haircut to be announced at the end.
The combat hasn’t aged well, and my god are parts of it bleak. But it’s phenomenal all the same. Superb writing, rich side quests that may or may not have butterfly effects on the world, rich characters, atmospheric art design, beautiful music. It strikes the perfect balance between humour and mature storytelling.
I started the remaster and had to stop because I knew I’d lose myself for hundreds of hours all over again and I had new games to play. That said it’s no True Crime: Streets of LA, so it’s not the best game EVER.
I don’t want to say this as they’re adding half as many as they took away, but it’s a great month for me on PS+ Extra, I’d happily play every game they’re releasing, bar STALKER which I own.
Sandlands is the big one for me, but pretty much all the others are ones that have peaked my interest but haven’t dropped low enough in sales when I’ve had money
It was as much an animated short as a reveal trailer for a game, it gave a brilliant succinct story that revealed a lot of depth in tone and characters.
A well deserved win, and a great way to hype up a game which CD Projekt Red need to NOT DO TOO EARLY AGAIN. They can’t help themselves!
Contrary to others, I think this is a great month for Extra - Sandland looks fantastic, Gloomhaven I’m intrigued by, and Seasons looks pretty. All games I’ve wanted to try but haven’t had the money to pick up.
Morrowind is the most in need of a remake, it’s aged terribly gameplay wise. But it is an absolutely stellar world design, interesting story, and it’s just batshit weird. All the other games could also do with a spruce up, but are all much more playable.
That’s a shame, I didn’t realise there was a ‘US’ and ‘UK’ dub, but I definitely didn’t recognise the voice work. I may have to pass on this one. Ill somehow have to decline the $200 inflatable Gex sex doll, difficult though it’ll be.
The mafia games have always had excellent, cinematic narratives so I think this could be great. It is an interesting, different setting so it’s a shame in some ways we can’t explore, but if they mix quiet moments with action, like The Last of Us, it could be really excellent.
Graphics and gameplay look a real big step up too.
It’s too realistic, I feel like I might feel bad blowing up 20 beach goers with a rocket launcher before flying my helicopter into a busy intersection before beating an old woman to death with a giant dildo this time.
And then what’s even the point of playing a GTA if you can’t enjoy acts of mass murder terrorism?
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is such an under appreciated gem, it’s a truly unique experience that captures a sense of adventure like no other game I’ve played. It’s also just plain weird, in an endearing, curious way.

Re: Poll: How Do You Feel About The Last of Us Part 2, 5 Years Later?
An incredible game I just couldn’t handle when it came out, though I plan to go back to it soon.
I’ve never played a game that’s been so profoundly disturbing to play, the way ‘enemies’ react to finding others dead was horrific.
Only a truly special game can put you off playing because it feels too real, too bleak.

Re: This PS5 Adventure from Another Code's Scribe Has a Truly Bonkers Premise
@Scottyy it’s mad that in the current state of the world this could as easily be genuine as a joke.
But the game sounds…intriguing. I think I burnt myself out on VN’s in my younger years, but we may get an anime out of it, if it’s good and popular!

This all sounds terrible, but in reality over 50 hours in with many hours-long sessions, it’s rarely noticeable, and it’s never affected my gameplay.
People get whipped up, but a fun game is a fun game, it’s not a precision action RPG, you don’t need a solid 60 frames (although that would be nice).
