And it will be just as disappointing as this last one because whoever does the content curation for these showcases is extremely out-of-touch with what the hardcore fanbase wants to see. No one who thinks having CGI trailers for live services and a Gran Turismo movie trailer in a showcase should be planning these things.
I take some issue with the comparison to Lost Soul Aside. Unlike these other Chinese games we've seen so far, the public was allowed to try out the combat at one PlayStation Experience, and it was really damn solid from what I played. It's also grown from being developed by one person to getting backing from PlayStation themselves, which is very different from these too good to be true Chinese games that pop up randomly these days (Phantom Blade Zero included). We've also seen quite a bit more from LSA after that initial first impression from years ago. I could end up with egg on my face by the time it comes out, but I don't think the comparison of stuff like Phantom Blade Zero and Black Myth to Lost Soul Aside is fair.
Say what you will about Bungie, but if their input means these live services continually get delayed or canned, that was a great acquisition as a single-player guy.
I must have taken a big huff of copium, because I'm in the camp that thinks they're going to have another showcase in the fall. PlayStation can't be THAT out-of-touch to think that pathetic showcase was good enough for the year.
My very toned down, realistic expectations for the first-party:
>Twisted Metal from Firesprite >Horizon: Zero Dawn remake >The Last of Us: Factions II >Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 >Nixxes' next PC port >Firewalk Studios' project >Team Asobi's project
Considering I paid well over $70 for Persona 5 on two separate occasions and buy the deluxe versions of Yakuza every time, SEGA is one of the very few publishers that I feel like has earned that extra $10 already.
Ever since Jason Blundell's really sudden exit, I've been very dubious about Deviation's future. Something clearly wasn't working behind-the-scenes, so I can't say I'm surprised this project might not be going well.
As sad as it is that they're closing (I've waved the "Concrete Genie is very underrated" banner for years), I have to wonder if Pixelopus's latest wasn't doing well behind the scenes.
Or Microsoft could just take the $69 billion and invest in the teams they already have and fix the clear managerial problems they have by hiring new talent.
But then again, they are just a poor little underdog getting bullied by that mean PlayStation. 🙄
I thought The Order: 1886 was a huge misfire, but I'll never deny that Ready at Dawn was a damn good studio when they began working with PlayStation. Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta are shockingly good for handheld God of War games. It's so sad to see how low they plummeted after Meta gobbled them up.
The thing with this situation that most of these idiots don't understand because they probably didn't play Burning Shores is that hooking up with Seyka is a CHOICE. If someone doesn't think the relationship is fleshed out nor convincing enough to want to take it to the next step (I fall into that category), then they DON'T HAVE TO DO IT. Simple as that. Guerrilla isn't "forcing" anything down people's throats.
User reviews are indeed a double-edged sword. In many cases, they're one of the few notable resources for consumers to vocally express displeasure with shady business tactics from a publisher/developer or get the word out on a game's unacceptable quality.
"This is obviously a bit of a surprise, because Aloy has come across fairly asexual in previous instalments."
This has always been my head canon for Aloy. I liked Seyka and all, but her relationship with Aloy wasn't developed nor convincing enough to change my mind. I'm glad they gave people a choice in the end.
However, I hope Seyka is in Horizon 3, because she's far and away one of the more interesting side characters in this series. I'm also surprised this article doesn't mention the unintentionally bittersweet little send-off Reddick's Sylus gets in the epilogue.
This doesn't bother me one bit. Haunted Chocolatier already looks incredible in its early state, and I want Eric Barone to take as much time as possible to tweak and refine it at a comfortable pace. If that means temporarily halting development to go back to (the excellent) Stardew Valley, then so be it.
@NEStalgia Your history with Guerrilla mirrors mine in some ways. Outside of Killzone 2, I never liked the Killzone series (I hated Shadow Fall, especially), and considered Guerrilla a very weak studio compared to the other ones under PlayStation's umbrella. Even today, Killzone 2 and Horizon: Zero Dawn are the only Guerrilla games I consider special in any meaningful way. Horizon is cool and all, but I worry that they're going to run it into the ground at some point.
I recognize this sounds a bit hyperbolic, but this to me is yet another painful step in Rocksteady's death march. I would love to know what the hell happened to this once great team in the time between Arkham Knight and Suicide Squad.
I've actively avoided any more footage of FFXVI. Square Enix has a nasty habit of spoiling many things in their trailers (the final KH3 trailer spoils almost the entire game, for example), and I won't have them ruin this for me.
Thank God. Media Molecule should have ditched Dreams ages ago. Although we won't be seeing this new project for a long time, I'm glad they're finally working on something new. I just hope it's an actual game like Tearaway and not another platform.
I'm extremely disappointed in Capcom. For all their well-deserved success and goodwill, this goes to show that they aren't above the usual publisher greedy bull****.
Sony has created an uphill battle for itself against fan expectations. At this stage of the game, they need to deliver a barnstormer of a showcase; all killer, no filler. Anything less than hitting those lofty expectations will be a great disappointment to many, including me. I firmly believe PlayStation has the games and surprises to pull it off, but something like the dreary September 2021 showcase will not cut it.
As for what I want to see at this showcase: I mainly want to see what Team Asobi, Bluepoint, and Pixelopus are working on. If Team Asobi announced a PSVR2-exclusive Astro Bot game, that would give me a strong desire to buy the headset. But, if they announced a large-scale non-VR title (especially if it's a follow-up to Astro's Playroom), that alone would make the showcase for me.
Ever Sony dropped out and the Saturday through Tuesday marathons of press conferences started to die down, E3 stopped being relevant to my circle of friends and me.
I love learning about what goes into the little details in games; things that we never think of and take for granted. This video in particular is fascinating because it's clear as day that Fang is passionate about her work.

Re: PS5 Showpiece Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Jumps to the PC Dimension in July
It's coming from Nixxes, so it will more than likely be a high-quality PC port. Also, why the hell wasn't this at the showcase? Totally bizarre.
