@loamy @olmaz As I said before, I’ll concede that “misogyny” is maybe not the right word here, and is maybe too extreme. In America, it has become synonymous with “sexist”. But let’s not sit here and pretend that being horny for a woman’s jiggly breasts in a game equates to liking and/or appreciating women, or some great act of feminism. C’mon, now! You say I’m being judgmental, and sure, maybe I am. But lol to me being judgmental about “how a female body should or should not be represented”. Absolutely, there are indeed women with large breasts in the world—yep they do exist! And do they have a right to be depicted in a videogame? Yep they sure do! And was that what this game was doing? And this culture of depicting female characters with sexy outfits and giant jiggling breasts? A favor to large-breasted women by depicting them as fully-realized humans, worth more than their bodies, which exist for viewers and gamers to control for their pleasure? Ummmmm… I don’t think so? It seems like maybe the developers (or someone at the company) likely realized that too, and toned it down. So good for them? I guess…?
Anyways, I certainly wasn’t planning on making this stand today, but I typed a thing, and here we are! And don’t get me wrong, I like breasts too! But just because something feels good doesn’t make it right, ya know? But I appreciate the argument, y’all. Disagreeing and talking about it is part of how we all grow as human beings.
@Loamy Fair enough, maybe I misused the word. I guess I would argue that depicting women as giant jiggly-breasted, over-sexualized dolls for commercial consumption is misogynist-adjacent lol
@dschons This is interesting. Thanks for sharing! I also notice that same stutter, and it is indeed frustrating, because otherwise it’s a great experience. Fingers crossed Sony can improve performance in future patches!
Solid argument. The portal seems like the best solution for Sony right now. I wish that it were a little better (e.g., OLED screen, no frame-rate issues, better sound), but it’s better than nothing. Definitely no Vita 2 coming.
Returnal has become one of my all-time favorites; an absolute masterpiece in the art form. Sad to see him go, for sure, but wish him and the studio the very best.
$10 upgrade path? SOLD. An absolute masterpiece of a video game, and one of my all time favorites. Played through twice, happy to play through a third time!
@Luigia Interesting… I’ll try it again after adjusting the resolution and turning off 120hz on my PS5, see if that makes a difference. Sounds like the router can make a big difference too.
@Luigia Just curious, what is your internet like? Did you have any lag with Returnal? I found that to be the worst performer out of the three I tried; still totally playable though.
I agree, it’s for folks whose TV is occupied and need another way to play. Period. Or in bed lol. That is 100% me and I’m going to put in a lot of hours on the Portal.
@Luigia So tried three games tonight, played for about 90 minutes: Lies of P, Armored Core VI, and Returnal. Thoughts per game below, followed by overall thoughts on the device.
1) Lies of P: totally playable and had a great time! Visuals looked very nice. Had minor framerate dips, but nothing detrimental. Was able to beat Simon Manus for the first time, which I think is pretty telling as to how playable the game was on the Portal.
2) Armored Core VI: totally playable, but less enjoyable overall. Not a game for handheld tbh, despite the big screen; the scale is just a bit too vast. Also the screen gets really busy, so tough to see what was happening on occasion. Visuals looked worse in this game for some reasons. That said, had very minor frame dips here and there but still able to own a boss I had previously been farming for credits.
3) Returnal: been a while since I played this, so my skills were lacking. Had a great time though. Despite some frame dips and the twitchiness of the gunplay, I did pretty well for not having touched the game in almost a year. Visuals looked great, but definitely not as smooth as I was hoping (but maybe about what I expected?); this one had the worst framerate issues by far. But still playable and I enjoyed my time until I got slaughtered by those nightmarish flying laser squids.
Overall: I’m glad I bought a PlayStation Portal, and can see myself using it often! Controller feels fantastic, screen looks nice (although hard to go back to LCD after using the OLED Switch), and the performance landed somewhere between great and playable, depending on the game. Certainly not a perfect device, and I honestly was hoping the remote play would be a bit smoother, but so far I’m happy with it. Excited to go back to some slower paced games in the future, and Baldur’s Gate 3 can’t come soon enough! 7/10 so far.
@Luigia So only had a chance to play for about 10 minutes so far, but played final boss in Lies of P. Actually one of the best attempts I’ve had at the ***** so far! Connection was solid! Wired to router, 300mbs Verizon Fios internet in US.
Will be adding more feedback later when I get a chance to play tonight. Will be trying out Armored Core VI, and Returnal for the haptics.
Not sure I needed a decrease in field difficulty, always thought that was fine—hope they didn’t nerf the game too much. The bosses on the other hand, need some rebalancing… But great to see them continuing to (hopefully) improve the game. Looking forward to the DLC! And a SEQUEL!!!
And always happy for more cosmetics!!
Lies of F(ashion)!!🎩
So excited to play this game… someday! This year has been nuts… But yeah, Control blew my mind. Loved the gameplay, the story, the amazing lore—just a WOW game. Sounds like Alan Wake 2 ups the anti and then some. Gotta play Alan Wake 1 first…
Remedy is just killing it 🔥
In a year of amazing games, Lies of P stole the show for me. Loving every second, even when banging my head against a tough boss. I am day one sold on DLC. Between this, Wo Long, and Lords of the Fallen (yet to play), this has been quite a year for soulslike fans. 🔥
I loved Dead Space 3 from a gameplay perspective; the weapon building fit with the character beautifully, and was what I wanted since the beginning. But yeah, not scary at all. I support this remake!
FromSoftware is my Lord and savior. Speaketh into manifestation, new IPs and Unreal5 shall strengthen my Lord’s resolve and provide bountiful joy/stife.
Praise the FromSoftware! 🙌🏼
Those dummies at Sony should have left Alan Wake: Remastered on sale the day reviews went live for the sequel. Just went to buy it and now the sale is over 🤬 lol
Getting absolutely wrecked by Romeo, King of Puppets in Lies of P, mixed with the soothing joyful platforming of Super Mario Bros Wonder. It’s going to be a bipolar weekend…
It’s an awesome game, thoroughly enjoying it so far. The combat is polished and tactical, the story is great, and the environments are a (creepy) joy to explore. Very happy for this dev, and for me, bc I’m enjoying it so much!
@zimbogamer Lies of P = Bloodborne X Sekiro! Deflecting and the legion arm is VERY Sekiro, while the whole vibe and sort-of the weapon building is VERY Bloodborne. Anyways, fantastic game no matter how you look at it. A great year for us Souls-heads, indeed!
Absolutely can’t stop playing this game—it’s taken over my life like no game since Elden Ring.
Sorry Armored Core 🔥x6, I love you but it’s Lies of P for the win 🥇
@silverspeed lol definitely not selling my Switch—I love it WAY too much! But yeah, I can’t play Lies of P or Armored Core VI on my Switch… Or better yet, Returnal!!
@silverspeed I play a LOT more Switch these days bc I can play in the evening while my lady watches TV, and we can still socialize and hang out together. I’d love to be able to do this more easily with my PS5. Also I think the device checks all the boxes—having an 8” screen solidly built onto a true Dualsense controller with Link to get me a solid connection via remote play is just what I wanted. And I can live with plugging in headphones, absolutely not a dealbreaker (also—lag free sound!). I’m super pumped for it!
Absolutely fantastic game!! Bumped me off Armored Core, which I think is really saying something. So many fun and well-done elements, and the story and world is very well realized. Play it!!
Good to hear everyone’s feedback! Sounds “good not great”, makes me feel okay that I skipped this one. Loved MK11 for a good while, and felt like I got my fill for the next decade. Maybe I’ll pick it up once it inevitably becomes like $20 for a komplete edition.
