Re: PS5 Maker Faces Lawsuit Over So-Called 'Sony Tax' on Digital Games

@ChrisDeku I suppose the theory is that if you've got a CD Keys or whatever selling digital game codes, you could potentially be able to buy a $40 game for $30 because the retailer itself offers a promotion.

Then you might get Amazon trying to price match or bringing it down to $28 and so on.

None of this happens at the moment because you can only buy the game through the PS Store.

I tend to agree, though, I'm not sure how much mileage there is in this case.

The turnaround throughout Push Square's lifespan has been impressive. When I started the site, Sony was in an absolutely horrendous position. They were bleeding money all over the place (not just PS3) and seemed to have no direction or purpose at all.

Kaz Hirai obviously fixed PS3 and then went on to start the process of turning the company around.

As this article shows, they're now in a very, very strong position again. Really impressive turnaround which started mostly with Hirai as CEO.

He'll be remembered for the memes, but he was a really impressive CEO.

This is why these acquisitions f**king suck! These big companies overspend when the money's flowing, then they gut them without a care in the world once things get tight again.

It's so frustrating, and there's seemingly no consequence to it at all. In fact, some corners of the Internet cheer these acquisitions on.

Embracer, NetEase, Microsoft, even Sony, they all do it and it's gross.

Re: Sony Japan Studio Closed Because AA Market 'Disappeared', Says Shu Yoshida

The thing is, all those games they used to fill out their schedule with on PS3/PS4, stuff like Journey, Flower, Escape Plan, Fat Princess, Trash Panic, and so on, they've been replaced by indies.

Back in the day there'd be like two or three new games on the PS Store per week. Now there's 20-30 new games per day.

I do wish they'd still find a slot in their schedule for stuff like Everybody's Golf though.

Re: PS5 Has Narrowed the Gap on Switch's Indie Game Sales, Says Shu Yoshida

Yoshida did an incredible job. The reality is that, as things stand, the Switch as a product is simply a better "fit" for most indie games than the PS5.

If Yoshida and his team was able to overcome some of that then credit where credit's due. I think things like PS Portal will help even further in the future.

I know Yoshida left behind a great team, but they need to keep the same energy now he's gone. Keep doing what they're doing and ensure the content continues to flow.
