Re: Civ 7 Historian Hopes 'Gateway Drug' Will Renew Interest in Subject

Civ and Paradox games are pretty much the biggest reason why anybody picks History at uni these days. Sure, you can attribute some of the alt-right nonsense spreading among teens to the way that the Crusades are portrayed in Crusader Kings II but it’s always good to learn more about history, especially with the world repeating the mistakes of the Holocaust.

@Sweet Ubisoft phased out PunkBuster after Black Flag. So kernel-based anti-cheat is unlikely especially with the multiplayer element being removed by the time Origins came out. They’ve also already fixed the Avatar game because it still has active maintenance devs, whereas this is an older game and development has ceased. Honestly, you writing a whole thing to say that it’s all Ubi’s fault and such sort of just reinforces my point that they’ve been getting an unfair extra level of hate that other devs avoid.

@wildcat_kickz You could say that about literally anything though. FPS games can be good or bad, they have to be a well-made game to be good. Games with pigs can be good or bad, even though I like pigs. The entire crux of the issue with what this guy is saying is that it’s drawing a correlation between diversity and quality, which hasn’t been true for a single game I can think of. It’s just utterly pointless to even talk about, he’s giving airtime to the very worst dregs of gamers for no reason. It goes without saying that no dev would want to add elements to a game unless they were a certain quality so what it boils down to is ‘do you instantly jump towards questioning the motivations of the writers or use of DEI practices if there are minorities present, and you don’t if it’s straight white male characters’. Because that’s basically just the textbook definition of bigotry. If you don’t ask yourself if straight white male characters have been shoehorned into a narrative for the sake of agenda then that implies a certain level of bias. Not that it’s always a conscious thing, lots of people are biased in their own way but society across the world being far more diverse than before means that we all have to make an effort to address our own biases.

@wildcat_kickz I highly recommend the book Black Tudors by Miranda Kaufmann. It’s easy to sit there and say there wouldn’t be black people in Bohemia in the 15th Century but the reality is that there absolutely could have been, given the amount of interesting stories about Africans who made their way to the English court, which implies a higher number of uninteresting people of similar backgrounds across much less interesting courts across Europe. History is written by certain people, our understanding of countless historical periods has shifted over the years due to historians being influenced by common morality of the time, Sparta being a prime example of having its homosexuality excised in favour of them being macho men. The point being, who’s to say that your understanding of historical accuracy is any more informed than the writers of these games? Without new writers, with something new to say, the entire medium becomes tired. This awful, anti-innovation culture is killing the industry, people are so desperate to hold onto their bigotry that they’re cannibalising originality.

Re: Stunning Trails in the Sky Remake Confirmed for PS5 Release in 2025

@Ralizah The romance for me is far more acceptable when you see them later on in the series, as they’re older and obviously not related, plus you learn far more about the circumstances leading to Joshua being taken in. When they’re skirting around each other it’s a bit weird but it’s one of the few romances in the series actually confirmed, probably because surprisingly enough the female protagonist doesn’t get a harem but the male protagonists do, making canon a bitch. Olivier is ridiculous but there are several characters in his archetype who push things a million times further in a way that’s genuinely hard to read. I’d appreciate them either knocking the vague bisexuality in the head or just outright confirming it though, that nonsense is rife in Japanese media, especially tied to ‘flirty’ characters.

And Evo on the Vita, where I played Sky first, had like 8x speed up so I never found the gameplay very slow or boring. Auto battle worked well too for grinding. I honestly think it’s one of the better designed RPGs of its day, with AP and CP being two separate resources to perform spells or skills. My only gripe is late game bosses having insane amounts of HP and Sky 1 and 2 don’t really allow you to break it the way 3rd and the later games do. Evasion tanks are incredibly broken in almost every game, just stack evasion and get the quartz that has critical hits on counters, makes a lot of fights much easier.

Right say it with me, UPSKIRTING IS A CRIME. All these incels that think the East is a wonderful Nirvana of anti-woke, why don’t they ask why all cameras in Japan are required to make a loud shutter noise? Allowing you to perv on fictional children with zero consequences is just mad, this being defended while Pixar censoring their new show for depicting a transgender person is welcomed, is insane.
