Re: Your Astro's Playroom Progress Will Transfer to Astro Bot on PS5

rjejr

I booted it up yesterday and started with the last level in the jungle where I thought I read a special bot was but I forgot how to climb by moving the controller. L2 & R2 I knew but titling, why is that even a thing?

Next time I boot it up I’ll bring the guide with me, no more guessing or misremembering.

Re: Your Astro's Playroom Progress Will Transfer to Astro Bot on PS5

rjejr

I know I finished the main game storyline on PS5 when we bought it, but I can't recall how much of anything else I did, not a big fan of time trials, challenges and the sort. Plus I bought the system w/ R & C so wanted to get to that as well.

Will make use of the guide and go check my save out, thanks.

Re: Failing Manufacturers Are Pushing the Narrative That Consoles Are Dying, Says Ex-Xbox Exec

rjejr

Consoles have been “dying” for nearly 25 years, just ask Sega. And Nintendo released a handheld with TV out b/c the Wii U died. And Xbox is dying. Sony is still making consoles, and I’d say a PS6, name and all, is practically guaranteed. But it likely will be digital only, and people will be mad they need to repurchase all of their disc games, so they won’t buy a PS6, then everything will be on PC and Nintendo handhelds, and consoles will be dead. And phones will have easy casting to TVs. Maybe even docks. And TVs will stream games.

So bookmark this article and let’s get back to it in about a decade shall we, say 2035, and see how well consoles are doing. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Re: Visions of Mana Dev Basically Shut Down Just as the RPG Releases

rjejr

@GamingFan4Lyf Yeah either way it still has to suck to one day the whole company is celebrating the release of the game they've been working on for a year at least a year and then the next day you're unemployed, knowing people are out there buying your game, but you can't afford it b/.c you're unemployed.

I'm currently not objective or impartial b/c my kid graduated from a good college in May w/ a B.S. in game design and development and still can't find a job. 😩

Re: Let the Astro Bot PS5 Launch Trailer Tide You Over Until Release

rjejr

@NEStalgia I don't think my library has any microfiche readers, don't think I've seen one of those since grad school in the 90's, but the DVD section is quite large, and the consoles have a few shelves each, even split up into general plus the kids room, which is basically Blues Clues licensed stuff, poor kids. It's a 3-4 minute drive from the house, my kid occasionally walks it for exercise, so worth the trip.

All the video game services are getting to be almost as bad as the tv and movie streaming services. Maybe pretty soon we can spend $50 per month for EA Play, Ubisoft+, PS+, Game Pass and NSO and never buy games again. Maybe next gen. 😜

Re: How Much Would You Pay for Your PS5 Games? Dev Says Industry Is Waiting for GTA 6 to Hike Prices

rjejr

People talking about $100 for GTA 6 while happily spending twice that, $200, for FF7 Remastered, $60 for part 1 and $70 each for part 2 and 3. 🤑

Yeah sure, each "part" is basically it's own game, but each part is only 1 part of a game being remastered in 3 parts. For $200 total.

In another 30 years when people are writing history books about how expensive video games have become someone will finally mention FF7 R costing $200.

Re: Let the Astro Bot PS5 Launch Trailer Tide You Over Until Release

rjejr

@NEStalgia If you're waiting to get Astrobot as your Christmas game maybe wait and get it on sale in a buy 1 get 1 50% sale, must be something else you want. Or wait a year and it will probably be on PS+. You seem like a PS+ guy but it occurs to me don't think we've ever discussed that topic. Though you know me, swiss cheese brain, we could have discussed it last month. 😜

Was planning on getting this day 1 for my kids birthday but then Sony decided to add "The Plucky Squire" to PS+ Extra when it releases just week later so I'll just pick that up now and buy this later on sale or pick it up at the library, assuming there's a physical disc edition, for $60 seems like there would be.

Re: Visions of Mana Dev Basically Shut Down Just as the RPG Releases

rjejr

I know I had a similar conversation when a publisher went out of business just before a game released recently but it really makes me not want to buy a game knowing all of the people who made the game are now unemployed and all of the income is going to the owners. Yes, I understand all of these people were paid for their work, probably, while making the game, but knowing they are now out of work while NetEase profits is still psychologically difficult for me. Another one to burrow from the library I suppose.

Re: Cult Classic Platformer Croc: Legend of the Gobbos Getting the Remaster Treatment

rjejr

@roe "contrary to a lot of other tank control games of its time, Croc actually works really well and still holds up in my opinion"

Thanks. I've tried a few of them in my time, who hasn't played Tomb Raider, but I just couldn't.

Still not sure how I missed this one. Guess I was too busy w/ FF7 and Parasite Eve at the time, but I played a bunch of 3D platformers too. Weird.

Re: PS Plus Essential Games for September 2024 Announced

rjejr

This reminds me since I'm planning on signing up for PS+ Extra for a $15 month next month to play $30 "The Plucky Squire", and also FF:CCR, I should sign up now to get the August PS+ games which I know are better than this, even if I can't recall what a single one was.

Edit: OK I don't know 2 of these 3 August games but I'm down for Lego Star Wars. 🤷‍♂️

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga (PS5, PS4) | Review
Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach (PS5, PS4)
Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights (PS4)

Also want to get Castle Crashers while it's on sale for $1.49 rather than $2.99. 🤑

Re: Visions of Mana (PS5) - Classic RPG Series Returns with Good But Flawed Intentions

rjejr

@ShogunRok "One of your party members has a heavy southern US accent, which is certainly a choice — but it is quite funny."

Hey thanks. We usually play stuff in Japanese, or Korean in the case of Stellar Blade, but not sure I can pass up a funny southern accent. My kid is playing "Wandersong", probably not your cup of tea, and my wife is voicing everyone southern. Except my kid who is making grunting noises for the main character Link style. 😂

Re: Visions of Mana (PS5) - Classic RPG Series Returns with Good But Flawed Intentions

rjejr

@ShogunRok How much of the endless dialog is voice acted and if voiced what accents are we getting? I find a lot of these to have British accents which we find amusing but would probably just be normal day to day to you. Of course if there isn’t any it doesn’t matter. Nice spoiler free review. I was reading one elsewhere and it seemed to be going point by point so I stopped.

Re: Rumour: PS5 Pro Still Planned to Release in 2024, State of Play Coming in September

rjejr

I feel like the PS5 Pro is almost certainly happening this year, w/ some wiggle room on the name, maybe PS5+ 😝 but haven't seen much discussion on the price. PS5 is currently going for $500 and $450 (US) so are they going to release a Pro at $600, or is it going to be digital only and $550?

Either way seems like a big ask w/ the upcoming PS5 games line up. A launch alongside Wolverine makes sense, but that could till be 18 months or longer off at this point. I don't get it.

Re: Rumour: Sony Paying Close Attention to Handheld Market After PS Portal's Shock Success

rjejr

The fact that Sony has a cloud streaming service in PS+ Premium but the Portal can’t cloud stream should tell you all you need to know about their handheld support. That’s all they need, a Portal Pro that streams from the cloud. Maybe throw the Discord and Twitch apps on there to make it gamer friendly.

Stadia didn’t fail b/c of the technology but b/c they were trying to get people to buy $60 games to stream, which was a ridiculous non-starter business model. PS+ Premium already cloud streams so they already have that business model. They don’t need a PSP 3 in a digital streaming world.

Re: PS5, PC FPS Concord's Poor Player Numbers Have Predictably Gone Viral

rjejr

Isn’t “venom” what the internet is all about these days? Gamers raging about how bad games are that they never even had any intention to play? The “it’s cool to be cruel” crowd. Review bombing and all that.

For this game I also feel like there are a group of people mad b/c it isn’t free to play. Not b/c they wanted to play it but now they can’t afford too, but b/c their whole shtick is “free to play is bad, glad it failed”.😝

Personally I don’t do first person, this or Indy doesn’t matter, I’m out.

Re: People Are Already Freaking Out Over Monster Hunter Wilds' PS5 Frame Rate

rjejr

@ShogunRok " At the end of the day, developers are told to prioritise visuals because visuals help sell games to wider audiences (especially big budget ones). "

Not as much into the nitty gritty as I used to be but any chance they did prioritize visuals for this demo and the game gets a 60fps mode w/ worse visuals upon release? I feel like most big games have the quality/performance option these days. Usually using terms which make it difficult for me to figure out which is which. 😜

Re: PS5, PC Hero Shooter Concord Was in Development for 8 Years

rjejr

@BeerIsAwesome " but since I was never really a fan of the franchise, I'm not best placed to pass judgement. "

I'm more of the opposite mindset, people w/o prior knowledge and expectations are a better judge of content than fans of the material. People who don't like things just b/c they don't match up w/ the source material "to their liking" are the worst judges.

Actually, those are the 2nd worst people, people who don't like things w/o seeing it first "b/c reasons" are the worst people.😂

Re: PS5, PC Hero Shooter Concord Was in Development for 8 Years

rjejr

@BeerIsAwesome Thanks for the info, appreciate it. Now you're giving me "New Mutant" vibes, one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I'll watch Borderlands when I can for free b/c it's what I do. Not surprised it was finished long before release, that seems to be a thing. He says as he waits for Kraven. 😂

Re: Xbox on Bringing Exclusives to PS5: The Industry Is Changing for All of Us

rjejr

@Dodoo I mean it's obviously a squirrel but I kind of think of it as a chipmunk since I'm partial to chipmunks. 😁

Pika is a 13 lined ground squirrel. Not that anyone in Japan would know what that is, I've only ever seen 1 in my life.

Re: Xbox Renegotiated Indiana Jones Deal to Exclude PS5, Then Ported It Anyway

rjejr

@AhmadSumadi @AhmadSumadi "Traversal is weak"

I tried playing Destiny 2 b/c my kid was playing it and there was section where we had to jump around a big round building outside and it was impossible for me to do, so I stopped playing. There were some indoor corridors I was cursing at before that as well, I think I actually had my kid play that section just to get me through it. I know it's a "skil issue" on my part but FPS should not have platforming roadblocks in their games.😝

"I especially hate FPS games that allow the player to customize the character. WHY?!"

You could have just said "Skyrim". 😉

Re: Xbox on Bringing Exclusives to PS5: The Industry Is Changing for All of Us

rjejr

@NEStalgia My kid wanted to buy Wukong for their 1 year old gaming laptop (possibly a different thread 😜) but I think I convinced them a $1,200 "gaming" laptop wasn't going to run it well enough for them. Though I suppose the screen being maxed out at 1080p, same as their USB-C display out monitor since their HDMI out never worked on said $1200 laptop, won't tax the system too much.

Pikachu is not a mouse, Mickey is the 1 and only mouse, though not yellow, and Disney would probably sue them if they said it was a mouse. 😂

Switch 2 should be $400 for the early adopters and scalpers, then Switch 2 Lite, or is it Switch Lite 2, can be $250. And the Switch 2 OLED w/ 256GB of storage, rather than the normal 64GB, can be $499, b/c Zelda Showtime and Luigi's Brother need OLED on a 1/2 grand system gosh darn it.

The price of the next gen Xbox will be zero, like Phil Spencer's paycheck, and digital only PS6 will be able to be $500 b/c digital only. The external disc drive for PS4 and PS5 discs will be $129.99 b/c I'm sick of everything be multiples of 50.

Re: Xbox Renegotiated Indiana Jones Deal to Exclude PS5, Then Ported It Anyway

rjejr

@AhmadSumadi "First person view makes any game that uses it an automatic skip for me."

Shh, the hardcore gamer bros are going to take your avatar away they hear you talking like that. 😉

I'm waiting for Fortnite to go FP so I can stop playing it, it's been 3yrs, that's long enough, but I keep on playing it anyway. FP and I'm done though, regardless of how bad my addiction is. There's always Hoyoverse to fill the void.😂

Re: Xbox on Bringing Exclusives to PS5: The Industry Is Changing for All of Us

rjejr

@NEStalgia “ a red plumber and yellow mouse “

Ok anyone who knows anything about gaming knows who the red plumber is and 99%of those people can tell you who owns him but I’ve spent 5 minutes trying to figure out “yellow mouse” and I was just typing this when Pikachu popped into my head, which I figured would happen. Don’t see him as a mouse, Pikachu is a Pikachu named Pikachu, but I’ll now assume that’s what you meant.

Funny, I just commented on NL that Switch 2 can’t cost more than $399.99 b/c kids need their Pokémon and parents need to buy them consoles so maybe the best way to have a $499 Switch 2 is to make Pokémon mobile only and make Switch 2 an adult console. Not that anyone thinks a $500 Switch 2 is the way to go. 🤑

Re: Xbox Renegotiated Indiana Jones Deal to Exclude PS5, Then Ported It Anyway

rjejr

@twitchtvpat Yeah I get that the you "PLAY" as Indy has an appeal, but first person has never really appealed to me. It's why I skip most VR games, first person for gameplay just seems weird. I know that makes me weird b/c FP is big in a lot of games but I just don't play those games. Indy will do fine w/o me, I may go replay Uncharted 2 when this releases, haven't played it since the original version.

Re: Black Myth: Wukong Becomes Steam's Biggest Ever Single Player Launch

rjejr

@somnambulance "Nier"

I played the original "Nier" way back when it first released on PS3, never played Automata b/c I didn't like all the brown and 2Dness of the demo, so it's not a comparison I would make, though I suppose if I had maybe. My kid was going to buy Wukong yesterday on PC when they found an old $100 Visa card but I told them they're year old laptop may not be able to run it well enough, but then it turned out they had already used the gift card, so end of discussion. They'll be happy to know it's harder than Stellar Blade though, they're always up for a challenge. They're planning on playing Stellar Blade NG+ when they're back home for winter break, they go back to campus on Friday.

Re: Stellar Blade Dev Expects to Sell More Copies on PC Than PS5

rjejr

I just finished Stellar Blade Sunday night after 47 hours, on easy Story mode, and my kid finished it yesterday afternoon after 27 hours on normal. I got the good ending, I think they got 2nd best of the 3. This is a good game and I'm glad more people will get to play it.

There are a few quality of life issues that do need addressing though. Hopefully PC will get them then they'll be ported back to PS5.

1. More save files. 3 would do so you can rotate around and not worry about a missed crate here or there. Or missing an entire section of the game based on some hidden %.

2. Show that hidden %. The character has an info page, simply put it on there. We can see the levels of shop sellers but not the one that locks away a big chunk of game is broken.

3. Why is there no map on the hidden chunk of game? I understand it's supposed to be a dungeon and those don't have maps but it's a fairly big space that requires 6 points of interest to be met, and I easily missed the first 1 and had to backtrack, took way to long. Other option, highlight them only 1 at a time. But make it easier to find.

4. The font size after you beat a boss on your items received is way too small. We can't read them from 7' away on our 75" TV.

That's off the top of my head. I'm sure there are more. Even The Witcher 3, as great as it was, had an entire redo on it's menu system a year after release, so there's no harm in admitting things can be improved, Shift Up is new at this.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024?

rjejr

That's a lot of different options just to say "bad". 😂

I only watched it a little bit while I ate lunch but I really just don't know who this show is for. The crowd wasn't into anything I heard. It's such a mishmash of niche stuff plus CoD. Did Hoyoverse need 2 games back to back? The commercial breaks just come and go of more video game trailers. Did he actually give out some awards in the middle, was this an awards show? Geoff is kind of a repetitive 1 trick pony at this point, they could probably put an AI into a manikin and this point and we'd hardly notice.

Seems like a waste of time for a lot of people watching and probably a waste of money for companies paying to line Geoff's pockets when they can just put their own trailers on Youtube.

Never again.

Re: They Finally Made an Animal Crossing Clone for PS5

rjejr

I thought this was the "Hello Kitty" Animal Crossing game when the trailer started. Is PS5 getting that game, b/c I think that may be closer to AC than this. Though not by much.

An, no Hello Kitty on PS5 until 2025 so this one may have a chance.

Re: The Plucky Squire Getting Physical PS5 Edition, But Won't Be Ready in Time for Launch

rjejr

@yohn777 Thanks. Funny story, I've been thinking Astrobot was $50 for about a month now, since it's been on here so often, and just yesterday I realized it was actually $60, not $50, and I was like "uh oh, I've been writing $50 everywhere" so I went looking to correct my mistake, but couldn't find any. So at least now I can correct this one. I put off buying it, $60 seems a bit much. And it seems destined for PS+ Extra sooner rather than later.
