This doesn’t seem new though. While everyone was busy complaining about “free-to-start” games the industry went full blown “$60-to-start” with all the dlc micro transactions and season passes that cost more than the base game. Even Nintendo, which poo-pooh’d dlc and said “we only sell complete games” then had more dlc for Smash Wii U than the cost of the game.

And you also left out the cost of hardware, which I thought this article was going to be about. Joycon and PS5 both have really bad drift, so you constantly need to buy new controllers. And the PS5 controllers keep going up in price, $70, $75, $170!!! Then you have all of the accessories like PS VR2 and Portal. And Switch went up to $350 for OLED after 6 years on the market w/o a single price cut. And PS5 Pro is $700 w/o a disc drive to play our old games or borrow them from friends or the library.

Gaming is crazy expensive now compared to even 10 years ago, it’s non-stop pay pay pay, hardware and software. Just like everything else. The class war is over, we lost.😩

Would say I didn't see this coming except I did last December when all of this was new. I'll give Epic credit, it lasted about 4 months longer than I thought it would, and Festival is still going. And I've changed my mind on Lego, that doesn't' seem to be going anywhere, Disney is probably pumping some of their $1.5B investment into it, kind friendly for Star Wars and Marvel.

I've always been a big birthday fan. I spent an entire month on NL making everyone wish me a happy 50th birthday. Next year I'll be milking it for the entire 12 months.😂 I grew up foodstamp poor and birthdays were really the only time we splurged. 🎂

Haven't played on my Switch much lately. Watched my kid play FF7 (original) b/c it seemed funny (I own the original discs and a PS1) and the Bakeru demo. I've already played Mario RPG and TTYD. Peach Showtime demo was enough for us. Mario & Luigi would be Day 1 if my wife could play as Luigi. Party has never been my thing. I'll borrow Zelda from the library for my wife to play, not worth $60.

I have to think there are several Switch 2 games that will make me buy one, despite my advanced age. Mario Galaxy 3, MK9. Some Yarn game, whoever's turn it is. Even a new Paper Mario. I liked Origami King, how long can it take to make one of those? Switch is almost 8 years old, almost every series is owed a new game by now. Smash. Luigi's Mansion (ports don't count), Donkey Kong. Pikmin 5. We did get 2 Spaltoons. 😝

Of course PS5 ain't doing much better. Where's Wolverine? I honestly can't recall anything in that SoP. Watched it live. Had at least a dozen, maybe 15 gams. Lots of brown. Maybe zombies. Sure I'm old and have zero recollection but if there was something in it that I really wanted or excited me I'd remember. Nothing specific like a name, but I'd remember there was a game I wanted. OK yeah Ghost 2 at the end. But really, I just played InFamous First Light, and I'd much rather have a fun game like that, or Sunset Overdrive, than another "real life" game. Real life is boring, that's why I play video games.

Switch 2 will sell for $400 and sell well b/c we haven’t gotten a new Mario Kart game in over 10 years, since May 2014, and MK8 has sold like 80 million copies. Launch w/ MK9 and it’s done. Launch w/ MK8 Deluxe Complete and it will still sell out and have a bump when MK9 releases a year later. And if it has PS4 Pro power (4 not 5) and similar FuaxK it might be useable for Fortnite and such. Who knows, maybe it gets the Hoyoverse games, seems like that’s all that’s new these days. It may not do PS2 numbers but it will easily do PS5.

Not that PS5 is doing great, but it will get Wolverine and FF7 Reunification eventually.

Saw this on CNBC this morning (or maybe it was yesterday morning) and hearing them say all this stuff out loud was pretty wild. But not in a good way. You’d think it would be easy to check though if there are that many Jeffrey Epstein accounts or an adults only room. Wouldn’t surprise me though, but then again the worst of humanity rarely does, just the occasional good stories.😩

I signed up for a month of PS+ Extra last month to play Plucky Squire which was great, Crisis Core Reunion which was interesting, Infamous First Light which was short but fun and the single player story mode in Gigabash which I enjoyed for a couple of hours.

Don’t see anything on this month’s Extra list I even want to play, glad I cancelled.

I guess I need to add games to my Wishlist b/c nothing on there is on sale.

Not a big social gamer or trophy hunter but I do like being able to see the controller battery life and storage. The R1-L1 switching to see internal and MM2 is a nice touch. Both of mine are almost full, a reminder to uninstall stuff.

Personally hoping all of the improvements they are making for “Pro” versions means there will also be some trickle down improvements to the base versions. Maybe not in the form of framerate or resolution but UI, menus, etc. I figure they’re spending time updating the game might as well make it better as well.

I think this is the last big game in my backlog, I can wait a little longer.

Best Buy in the US has the same $400/$450 deals going on. Only a $50 savings to go all digital seems kind of off to me. Are there any 4K UHD players on the market for $50? Besides 4K and blu ray movies I’ve probably borrowed $200 worth of games from my library, Spider-Man 2, Stellar Blade, Stray off the top of my head. Isn’t Sony selling their own non-stand alone drive for $80, but the system is only $50 cheaper?🤑

Will try out the single player missions just to see how it actually compares to Splatoon. If it’s first person view, I honestly don’t know, it will be a very short try out.

It has a release date of November 14, 2024, according to Sony it is getting a physical release, and I know you’re predominately an NL guy but it’s releasing on Switch as well. Im not interested in a hero shooter or even a co-op monster Hunter type game but I would be interested in a MMO like WoW or FF14. I could even see it working as a Nintendo Switch style farming sim, kind of an MMO lite.

Sony needs to figure out the whole pricing thing though. Live service seems to need to be free to start, not $60 or $40. Helldivers is the exception, not the norm. 🤑

This seems a bit much. As long as no online authorization is required you should be able to play a digital game forever.

That said, cloud streaming games should NEVER EVER be allowed to be sold because you are not buying anything and you are not owning anything, it’s like saying you are buying stuff you watch on Netflix or the BBC for the UK. Not saying cloud gaming shouldn’t exist, I have no problem with rental or subscription services, but streaming is so obviously NOT buying that I don’t understand how it has ever even been allowed. Stadia should have shown that. Not sure how it’s still a thing. 🤑

@Ralizah By the time Switch 2 launches next year SWJ: Fallen Order will be 6 years old, so my thought was they advertise Survivor for $60 on cart then include a download code in the box for FO.

Though now that you mention it probably more likely for Switch 2 games to be $70 than $60, that new price point, already reached by Zelda TotK, is still something I need to adjust to for Switch 2. So you can consider my original post edited to $70, but I'm too lazy to go back and actually edit it.

It's bad enough they'll be charging $70 for by then 2 year old Survivor, which is going for $50 now for an 18 month old port. So I say Switch users catch a break. Or not, you're probably right. 🤑

There is a typo when you wrote 2024, Level 5 originally said in their March 2023 Vision Showcase that Decapolice would be out in 2023. Also 3 of their other 4 games were 2023, the other due out in either 2023 or 2024. Whoever dated 5 games and missed them all by years shouldn't get a paycheck until after the last game releases. 🤑

@themightyant The next Smash, 3D Mario and Mario Kart games should look incredible w/ the upscaling, and Nintendo will get them to run at 60fps. Some Wii games, in SD, looked better than some HD PS3 games on my HD tv. First party Gamecube games also looked great, of course that was back when Nintendo made it's consoles to compete on power.

Even if Nintendo can't compete on power w/ PS5 and Series X I think Switch had enough newer game ports of games like Skyrim and The Witcher 3 that Switch 2 may be able to get most of what this new gen can handle. Especially since a lot of PS5 games were also PS4 games and Microsoft still has that "must run on Series S" mandate.
