The problem of game pass is that it doesn't follow the same market rules as the other vendors, is an attempt to invest an enormous amount of money (not coming by the videogame industry) to corner the market and aquire control of it (I a similar way as Apple and Google control their mobile markets). Already today, small software vendors are forced to come to terms with Microsoft if they want to exist in the Xbox platform.

Re: Newly Signed Law May Restrict Sony's Use of Terms Like 'Buy' or 'Purchase' for Digital Games

Digital copies of purchased games will eventually disappear one day or the other, that's without doubt. Already now, PS3 and Vita game are at risk, they are still downloadable, but for how long ? Kindle was the first to apply this rule if I remember correctly, books disappeared from e-book readers without notice.

Also, being a license it doesn't necessarily mean that automatically the license "can be revoked", it all depends by the terms in the contract.

Re: Talking Point: Is PS5 Pro Way Too Expensive?

@Zeke68 i understand your point of being worth or not. To me, is not worth it either and indeed I'll stick to my PS5 wich is more than enough for my needs. I also don't think they aim to sell tons of PS5 Pro, it will be niche-ish market targeted to tech aficionados.
Also you're right when you say that food costs, electric bills etc. all increased in the past years. What makes you think that in a economy where basically everything increase, piece of tech hardware should not ?

@Zeke68 Average salary in Sweden is (the equivalent of) around 2500~3000 euro. This makes the console an equivalent of 1,5 weeks of work. You won't go banckrupt. I understand if it's too high for you, in that case you can still go for a regular PS5 and not miss so much. This is a way bigger problem in countries like Italy or Brazil, just saying.

It was a challenge, a hard challenge requiring energy, skill and dedication.

Games have been challenges since forever, I don't see the reason to be judgmental just because you would never do that or because you would spend that time and energy in different ways.

I bet everyone of us spent time and money in frivolous activities instead of researching the cure of cancer. Let people have their fun how they like.

Re: New PS5 Firmware Update Adds Full Discord Calls and More

Agree, Discord is a mess. Dozens and dozens of "@everyone" or "@here" notifications, channels, sub channels, references, pins, groups, vocal chats, custom reactions, swipe menus, hidden menus, nitros, polls, links, pointers, custom emoji, emoji groups, stickers, faceyspaces and what not. An utter, incredibile mess.
I wanted to register to an online tournament and monitored the freakin dozens of channels with millions of messages every day and still managed to miss the important message with tourney requirements.
I felt so disoriented and old. And I work since 25 years in the IT.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Sony's State of Play for May 2024?

sop

@Atreus97 I'm many years older than you and a I can relate, those GaaS shooters are the least thing that could interest me in gaming. However, my secret is: "few but good". I still have Baldur's Gate, Dragon's Dogma to play, Kingdom Come is arriving. Enough for a couple of years of gaming.

Re: Gaming Subs Like PS Plus, Xbox Game Pass Aren't Growing At All

sop

The games I like (Elden Ring, Baldur's Gate, Dragon's Dogma) are not on subscription services. Even if they were, I would buy them regardless, as I spend months on each of those games and like to go back for another run after months/years. The subscription model is totally against my gaming habits.
