Re: Will the Real Disco Elysium Spiritual Successor Please Stand Up?

EfYI

Wow! As someone who will rate Disco Elysium as a masterpiece of art and gaming I was waiting for this article - but I only knew of the two earlier announcements. I am sad that the team disintegrated into so many factions - we needed them to flip the finger to ZA/UM's evil overlord (seriously, ***** that guy) and band together to create something. But okay - I would trust everyone to create something good. Except for the eternal douchenozzle owning ZA/UM.

Longdue games - sounds like a small team. I would be interested in a more combat-focused roleplaying game, so this is cool news. But WHAT is psychogeography?

XXX Nightshift - Dark Math Games: sounds like a rough version of a DE game with a female narrator. I like the hint that this is adult material, and I think the final product could be amazing if they tweak the sound of the narration to the heights of DE.

Summer eternal - didn't know about this one, but I like the style and panache of their manifesto. Not much more to go on - but the writing seem to be covered in this endeavor. I think the first one was very inspiring to the staff and every attempt at game making is now different as a result - their line about corporations seem unfair if all these game studios are small indie operations? Are any backed by collosal companies?

Finally, we have the Kurvitz/Rostov alliance which admittedly I know nothing about. I don't know if they could create a universe and city quite like Revachol, but I am VERY interested and they have my faith.

In fact, they all do - they all have Cool ingredients, and I guess many of the same instincts. I mean, how often do we get a triple announcement on the same day about spiritual successors. How crazy it would be if all were bangers and of very high quality.

Re: PS5 May Soon Be Unchallenged by Xbox in Some Regions

EfYI

@xxk7xx

Some good points about the positives of an XBOX console. Xbox is also getting remote play streamed from the user's own console, finally catching up with SONY.

If I didn't have my library on Playstation and if VR was available on XBOX I might have surfed the same wave as many others getting game pass virtually for free on a cheap entry point with Series S.

Microsoft have basically bankrolled their customers' gaming for years, and yet their market share is too small. That, I think, is why their declineis inevitable and also why it is smart to pivot into the publisher role.

Re: PS5 Pro Prompts Sony's Disc Drive to Rocket Up the Charts

EfYI

It is so nice of them to include this option. It wouldn't have been too much to ask for people to repurchase their non-digital games, after all.

Honestly, it is a steal at that price, and aesthetically you could argue that it completes the 'look'.

Plus there's like a complementary box with it with limitless potential for application.

Re: Metaphor: ReFantazio (PS5) - Brilliant, Memorable RPG Is One of Atlus' Finest Works

EfYI

@Rich33

Maybe all you need are glasses and 10 minutes break every hour.

Some experts will tell you that the human eye can see between 30 and 60 frames per second. Some maintain that itโ€™s not really possible for the human eye to perceive more than 60 frames per second. Therefore, I find it puzzling that so many are maintaining that they can't enjoy less than 60. I struggle to find it credible. However, another source (how-to-geek) will tell you that some people will tell you they feel a difference.

I started playing games before Playstation even existed - we didn't get sick or complain at all. No one did. But maybe it has to do with transitioning to 3D. I remember a game dev saying that making the screen look right when the player was running was extremely important in not creating nausea.

Re: Metaphor: ReFantazio (PS5) - Brilliant, Memorable RPG Is One of Atlus' Finest Works

EfYI

@Rich33

I consider not being able to withstand little hiccups in a game to be such a privileged 1st world problem that I always laugh when the inevitable complaints are filed in the comments.

"30 frames per second? I would rather die!"
"Chugging framerates? Uuuuuuuuunplayable!"

I am not telling you to change, just know how funny it is to someone with entirely other (gaming) problems.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Essential Games for October 2024?

EfYI

It is an impressive, collective feat by the gaming community at large that I know that Doki Doki Lit Club is a great game, but I have NO idea what it is about AT ALL.

The constant hints are obscure enough for me to be at a complete loss - so I want to play it.

Now, Dead Space is a classic I've been told so many times. So this might just be the first time in a year I have any interest to sign up. I will wait until the last day of availability so I can get two months' (if I only buy a month) worth of games for a duration of 30 days. I haven't figured out if Black Friday is in this sweet spot, but if it is I might end up subbing for a year if SONY offers me a discount.

Re: Silent Hill 2 (PS5) - The Horror Great Remains So in This Excellent Remake

EfYI

I feel quite happy to see such an old game that has existed side by side with us old gamers be restored in such a great fashion.

I never got far the first time around - but I remember how effectively the opening beats set the atmosphere. To have a modern rendition to pick up at my leisure is like having gamer currency in the bank. Maybe next year I'll pick it up if they discount it - I am cynical, it will be updated, patched and reduced in price in due time.

Re: Nixxes Dev Refers to Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered as 'First Big PlayStation Content Project'

EfYI

The problem with SONY isn't that Nixxes are earning their pay by updating/porting games.

Firewalk, Haven, Bend and Naughty Dog are the black sheep of the family. Neil D ruined Naughty Dog for me, SONY ruined Bend for me and Haven and Firewalk seem like total dead weights bordering a scam like that guy with vapour ware that Pushsquare loved to gossip about.

How much longer are they going to waste hundreds of millions paying them for zero returns? Even if SONY rightly shuts the studios down, they usually give every employee something similar to a golden parachute with extended healthcare and the US made sure that their health care is the most expensive in the world.

Re: PS5 Pro Will Reportedly Boost PS4 Games, and Reduce PSVR2 Motion Sickness

EfYI

I would have to sell my current PS5 if I wanted to 'afford' the new Pro.

I kinda want to, now that it even promises small improvements for PSVR2, my PS4 and 5 backlog. Also, after reading a user in here's breakdown of the potential upsides of my use case I think it will improve my experiences overall but only incrementally. So.... I will definitely wait for first adoptee reactions. Might even wait for the first discount of the system! When did PS4 Pro first get discounted!?

Re: Prospective PS6 Purchasers Would Consider a Portable Model

EfYI

@Major_Player

You'd be a fool to assume that the techies at SONY doesn't work in advance on a new console. They don't go up a mountain on Sunday and carry down a shipment of PS6s for launch the day after.

So, if there are continuous work being done on future generations there's also rumourmongering brought about by the homeless and jobless caste called journos, influenzas and the chronically online.

Notice that PlayStation ISN'T talking about the PS6.

Re: Sony's Live Service Push 'No Joke', A Lot of People Working on Horizon Online

EfYI

They went all in on live service as a giant '***** you' to their core customers, basically saying 'yeah, we want easy money ๐Ÿค‘'

Then they butchered studios and decimated work forces whilst funding entirely new studios putting all the eggs in a single basket. Haven and Firewalk should have never been.

The one golden egg they have, they took out of the basket and smashed it to placate the basket case and lead man of Naughty Dog (imagine if Amy Hennig had assumed the leadership role!).

It is just impressive mismanagement - and let's not forget about the ballooning cost of paying all those employees the exorbitant pay cheques that come with first party studio prestige.

Re: Star Wars Outlaws' Rescue Roadmap Provides a Snapshot of Modern PS5 Gaming

EfYI

Most of us hardly buy games anymore.

I think the last I bought was BG3 and I paid in full. I haven't bothered to finish a playthrough yet, and part of the reason is that patches and content are flowing in.

I like Star Wars, but I am tired of the same old gameplay - I have read that shooting on scooters doesn't feel good, and stealth is too rudimentary. This is probably the main reason why many abstain. And personally I have even tried Jedi Survivor.

Re: Fans Appear to Be Coming Around to PS5 Pro

EfYI

@Al3 q
I will your argument out. Consoles are not more expensive.

I just looked up a graphics card which PC gamers treat like 'their' console:

GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4090 AORUS WaterForce Xtreme - 24GB GDDR6X RAM

The cost? 2600 USD. You need a lot more components to finish that console - maybe another 1000 USD.

Anyways, the funny thing is that I have no real idea if the upgrade would be noticeable on my TV.

It is a TCL 55' 780 QLED with only 60 Hz and no VRR. That is my biggest question along with how long for PS6? Unless I get help figuring out these things, I will just be perfectly happy with the PS5.

I have entered a competition to buy the PS5 Pro 30th Ann. Edition, though. But that is because that thing is going to be incredibly valuable if they never make more.

Re: PS5's Ginormous Tokyo Game Show Booth Will Make You Wish You Were in Japan

EfYI

I have no idea if TGS is big in Japan. But it HAS to increase their exposure - fans, gamers, journalists, influencers and the like might get excited by Playstation's return to TGS or (re)discover the brand.

I am saying that the next count of sold hardware might be directly affected by this event or the coverage of it, or any derivative of such a spectacle of a show.

But this is someone from the outside looking in.

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn PS5 Wins Over PlayStation Fans

EfYI

I replay a lot. I dont know exactly if and when I'd upgrade, but it'll be after playing through Forbidden West (I think because I had the game spoiled vaguely, I am not so keen).

I do think this is great for those who got it for free. Many will almost want to honor that in some sense. It is a win for Sony for sure.

Re: PS5's Ghost of Yotei Triggers Social Media, Ex-Sony Exec Says 'If You Don't Like It, Don't Buy It'

EfYI

Yeah, I think the idea is great. It's a real competitor with AC Shadows. So, a little economic disadvantage for both, but maybe also the competition will benefit in this attention economy.

Off-topic: I'm so tired with the overreaction on random opinions that pop up here and there often from never-heard before SoMe-users. Overtly calling people with problematic opinions names is part of a calling out culture, and the etiquette could improve.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Sony's State of Play for September 2024?

EfYI

I voted excellent (disclaimer: I was tired and battled falling asleep).

  • Astro as a service is great, because so many feel this title is exceptional
  • Ghost of Yotei - excellent hype-material and doesn't exclude GOT2 for later use
  • Horizon Lego looks like a comedic hit with enough in its bones to pass off as a solid kids' game too
  • Update on PS5 Pro will be good for those interested, as well as the peaks into PSVR2 games
  • A banger addition to PS PLUS will be good for those subscribed. TLOU is just peak PlayStation in many ways

You can't expect much more from this format.

Re: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered Leaks for PS5, PS4

EfYI

Ahh! here's a blast from the past...

Since I stopped using a lot of money on games the industry has just been spitting out old friends in new coats of paint.

Many are remasters of games I never tried. It is good to see a classic and have the option to play it on a much grander scale, but if I didn't really buy into it back then, will I now?

What I want to see are new game design and mechanics. I am getting the contrary old design and mechanics with new coats of paint.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 547

EfYI

Mainly I am watching Game Of Thrones again. Great series, this time Sansa doesn't irk me, but the little brat Arya still does and Jon Snow seems more obnoxious than at first viewing. But on second viewing I just skip parts which really helps.

I am supposed to be playing FF 7 part I with good graphics. The better graphics on the PS5 version has been enticing.

I don't feel compelled to play much though. If only Days Gone 2 had released (around this time) or a Disco Elysium 2, but incompetent forces ruined both studios and badmouthed the creatives behind.

Re: Rumour: Concord Cost $400 Million, Sony Believed It Was the 'Future of PlayStation'

EfYI

If this is all true then Hermen Hulst is deeply and frighteningly incompetent. In some ways, I still feel like this has to come under the jurisdiction of Jim Ryan. As the company's too CEO, he should have known better than to greenlight this.

The most expensive game in PlayStation history!? Based on what merits!? Why do you need 200 people if you outsource work!?

Somebody needs to bring down the axe on this lollapalooza of paychecks - Money for nothing, chicks for free-studio. They need to be fired and never, ever rehired. I am so happy I stopped funding this crazy, crazy company. PIVOT and start making games for me again and I will start voting for them with my wallet starting with SM2 and GoW:R.

Re: Rumour: Days Gone PS5 Remaster Speculation Starts to Spread

EfYI

So, John Garvin's Deacon St John will save a tilting Bend?

I thought they were cooking? Didn't know they did it with Garvin's scraps and leftovers.

I don't really buy this story if it actually is pretty and running at 60 on PS5. I might even try it for a third time. Could it just be a PS5 Pro update?

Re: Sony Priming 'Even Less Exciting' PS5 Remaster for State of Play

EfYI

This confirms my reaction to the wave of remasters was correct:

Teaching new staff is part of the reason for these releases. This is combined with the need for revenue in between these excruciatingly long development times for new games. It is an easy marriage and one that is defined by how far the gaming industry has come, leveraging their legacies in tending to current needs.

I would wish that most of Sony studios' have their firm grip on the development of fresh titles arranged broadly in the spectrum of public interest. Having them floundering and releasing all possible existing IP will potentially lead to unprecedented death spirals if the revenue stalls.
