This should be more proof that the GaaS model ship has sailed. Yes this game had issues at launch but from a gameplay perspective it made some solid improvements and QoL features. Dopamine is a funny thing. Even the next iteration in your favorite service title isn't a certainty. There's a reason Fortnite OG is coming back permanent and OVerW2 failed to catch the the OVerW1 crowd the same way. You put a 1000 hrs into something and even a new loading screen can deter. Service games can adapt/update(fornite, cod, apex etc.) But outside of CoD creating new annual game for GaaS titles or even sequels has a track record for being a disaster...regardless of the good reasons some of you will give me. People don't want to abandon the time/effort
Bloodborne got robbed, Uncharted 4 got robbed....astro bot is my next pick to get robbed. I'll eat both my feet if it wins...and I want it to win...odd flex I know lol
I smaller budget sure. But it needs to be a polished, cohesive and fun experience. If a smaller budget means a sloppy, ugly and poor performing game (not sales wise but literal game performance) then we are icing the budget for the wrong reasons. RoboCop did very well, Sea of Stars did very well. It can be done. Maybe Kunitsu-Gami doesn't scream approachable to the masses lol. Banishers is a sad one to see as that looked pretty cool.
Rebirth became a chore for me. Got to around the Dyne fight and I got frustrated. Dude gets his arm blown off from a few shots but eats literally thousands of rounds and morphs into some outrageous looking monster lol. I was enjoying up to that point. Got to that awful gongaga region and that was it for me.
The game was doomed from the reveal. Sure it wasn't ground breaking but it wasn't some abomination. **Full Disclaimer** I was never going to play it- just ain't my thing. It was 10 years late, wasn't free, ripped off GotG AND the internet is loud. Sony isn't known for this type of game. Just stepping into this realm from Uncharted, Ghosts, GoW, ASTRO, TLoU and many other single-player oriented titles I won't list meant it was screwed from jump. If this was made by a 3rd party dev I think it would have been closer to a suicide squad or Xdefiant type failure...not the most colossal failure in any medium of entertainment ever lol
Will finally get the wife past FPS and platformers lol. One of my favorite RPGs ever. Garl is still one of the most endearing characters in a rpg ever imo
@MrPeanutbutterz i guess to each their own. When it released i didn't have any issues with visuals other than the Halo effect in one of the modes around Aloy
I'm not sure how we got to the ps5 performance mode looked a bit rough. I guess because I've been gaming since Nintendo i feel like most games just look amazing on current gen consoles
Whose doing it doesn't matter...I'm pro say whatever the F you're thinking but that was the most corporate/anti give a ***** about creators comment I've heard lol
@get2sammyb but interest has capped. We aren't bringing in millions more gamers each generation. There is proof of a ceiling in total players. If we aren't bringing in more and more new clientele and the major Live Service games are established and consistent, not to mention the amount of time players have already spent building their levels and characters, how does a new entry take away millions of players from something so well established? I'd argue the ship has sailed on creating another fornite or CoD and the sooner the industry realizes that the better.
So why the live service push in the US and Europe. They are going to make absurd amounts of money from China alone. If they love their lotto games then give them what they want.
@get2sammyb without reading comments (sorry lol) I'd have to consider it the largest entertainment/multimedia/gaming failure ever. I mean what movie, book, game, TV show can we say has a documented 200-300 million dollar loss? And please. If there is one tell me because I'm at a loss lol
Daaaaaamn. I mean I'm not sure what the alternative would have been but wow. Weird it's the biggest entertainment flop of all time and msm barely flinched or noticed.
My son is absolutely obsessed with Cats Quest 2. We've been having a blast with that. Slowly working towards the ASTRO plat. Mario Party Jamboree is also the best MP in a long time.
Josef is quietly one of the best directors and brightest minds in the industry. I'm all for my single player epics but games, imo, are truly meant to be played together in meaningful ways. The fact he and his team had game mechanics you'd use for one hour that was more polished and fun than developers that base their entire game around those mechanics is nothing short of amazing
@Northern_munkey lol. That last part. Hair is overrated!! But hear me out. Budgets were a fraction (like disproportionately so compared to today) and if you had a banger you could still sell millions of copies. Mario 64 budget was about 1.5 million. Adjusted basically 3 million. It sold 12 million copies at anywhere from 60-90msrp lol.
Most anticipated for me for spring. Unless Yotei gets an april/may release. My last 2 most anticipated were sea of stars and Hogwartz and I loved them both. I'm hoping my gaming intuition is feeling a triple crown moment lol
I think my copy of Chrono Trigger for 94.99 in 1996ish that correlates to about 200$ today says hold my beer. Need to keep it in perspective lol. Also multiple N64 games were crushing the 80$ threshold and there weren't any extra bells and whistles attached to that price tag
Not gonna lie, the title threw me off. But it ended up encompassing both things wrong. It runs poorly and has sold poorly. Title had me thinking the PC port was just ass. But the ps5 version is equally ass. Must be running UE5 lol. They touted that as the second coming for these consoles and in all reality the next ones might be efficient. Best looking (and running after patches) using UE5 for console is still robo cop. Game looked borderline photorealistic standing still lol
@Oram77 i love the fact that those characters can have life genuinely breathed into them but I was disappointed with Rebirth. Some bosses were just unbearably difficult and they bloated the game imo. Still things I love about it but I had to out it down because it was becoming a slog. I'm in Gongaga...God help me...I hear that's the worst region lol
Everyone better buy this damn game. Everyone. Or there can be no bitching about live service, season passes, battle passes, dlc, MTXs or whatever else everyone wants to cry about lol. I'm going to buy it twice. Once digital to play, once physical to never open and keep in that beautiful cellophane. I'm doing my part. We need to support FUN games over all the other BS.
My ps3 disk drive just crapped...it's not a hateful repair but also not an easy one (for me anyways). If this were true and it blankets sww studios offerings that would be killer.
Game is gonna sell like crazy because of switch. I wish Nintendo would consider multi for MP4. The rabid but small Metroid fan base isn't gonna be enough to cover 9 years of development.
Preach it!!! Seriously I will double dip Astro. Digital to play. A collectors or deluxe physical for the shelf. That damn game better sell 10mil+ or for shame on all of you!!
I don't get the slimy comment. The platform holder was trying to give their players incentives and perks for having bought their product. If the platforms were entirely agnostic what's the point. "I'll take generic box 1" that in no way differentiates itself from box 2. Count me out If it ever gets to that
I love how everyone (not everyone but a loud crowd on the web) think that Sony has nothing in the pipeline and are just dead in the water lol. The latest interview with Cerny he said that game development is a choice. Devs (and respectfully) their pubs are allowing the 5-6 year dev cycles as feature creep and expanded scope and story keep being such a focal point. I have no doubt that great games are coming from Sony (they havent been market leads for this long by not delivering) and the vague 2025 on a lot of the titles today are probably in place to mitigate backlash for them missing their date, which we don't even know lol. I'm glad some bangers were shown today. Xbox has spent damn near 100 Billion in the last 3 years. It SHOULD be resulting in impressive games. But damn 33 and E-Day stole the show imo
@Frmknst I get sometimes it can clutter up a screen but it totally helps correlate damage done with damage % to overall health of the enemy. Without knowing how much damage you are doing relative to their health how can you properly plan attacks or strategise for a boss battle/hard battle. This really only needs to apply to RPGs of this nature though
This and E-Day just stole it. Overall a really great presentation. Stalker 2 looks amazing. It was very 1st person heavy though imo. Playstation finds themselves in a unique position. My guess is they let the dust settle and announce a Playstation Showcase in like September/October to boost holiday sales. They will need to have at least 2 if not 3 big first party games to release next year imo.
Man Playstation marketing team is freaking amazing. Especially the ***** the do in Europe. And I'm a Statey but would sure love those tickets. One of you PushSquare regulars on that side of the pond better be lining up for some pinball and win those tickets!!
HD2 reporting big drop off too. Hope they turn that around because it's a blast. Concurrent was down around 60k from a Hugh off almost 500k. They gotta make these major orders easier to finish.
I wonder if Sony Axing so many in England isn't relative to cost of living/exchange rates etc. I know the pound is the standard in the right perspective. I'm purely speculating and don't have a clue lol. Also you can see none of their titles, as great as they were, sold like crazy
@MikeOrator all the spidermans, divisions, watch dogs, dead islands, dying lights cyberpunk hasn't satiated your appetite...I kid I kid lol. I guess I find modern settings boring to an extent...i did buy gta on my ps3 (crazy even typing that) and had my fun but I just don't get the hype
Wtf is taking so long. I don't even care for gta but is it just going to be the most absurdly large game that everyone else will go belly up trying to mimic? Gta is almost bad for the industry collectively lol
Rebirth...but damn...I'm kinda getting tired of it. The OG is my all time favorite but there is TOO much in this game. I don't wanna bother thru too fast though because being underpowered doesn't work in this game. Other than that HD2 as always and random bouts of Battlefront coop, Clone drone and Shredders Revenge with the boy
Think of the talent that's going to leave and go to Sony, Nintendo, Valve etc. I can't imagine any rank and file developer has any faith in good will for them. The quality of all the IPs they now own will be much worse.
