Re: Assassin's Creed Boss Says Series Is Inherently Diverse, Just Like History

PuppetMaster

I'm personally don't care much about "diversity". It's not i'm against black skin as a protagonist. Some of my favs characters are black like Barret Wallace (FF VII), CJ (GTA San Andreas), Rider (Furi), Adam Hunter (Streets of Rage), and Dudley (SF III/IV).

So it's really weird to see Ubisoft CEO or some companies talked about "diversity" as if video games never have black representation or not diverse enough. It's like they live in other dimension or something :/

But if there's no solid reason why the protagonist must be a black person outside just for the sake of diversity then why bother?

I'm sure a lot of people care more about a character have good design and background story / personality as well good writing that makes them likeable, memorable, or they can relate over what skin color the character has.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 553

PuppetMaster

Playing SF 6 and watching CPT Super Premier Japan. I finally got Manon to Master rank, which is my 6th character who reach Master rank. Ngl, i didn't like grapplers since SF 2 but in SF 6 i had a lot of fun playing them.

I'm also replaying some retro games like Super Contra and Contra 3: Alien Wars.

Have a good weekend guys 🍻

Re: PS5 Pro Packaging Flaunts Its Disc-Free Nature

PuppetMaster

Kinda sad to see that disc-free logo considering Sony history as one of the biggest pioneer of physical media like Betamax, CD, DVD, UMD, and Blu-ray.

Now Sony try to go fully digital which i can't really blame them since gamers is the one who decided their way is to go fully digital. sigh...

Re: PS5 Pro was a '5-Year Project', In Development Before PS5's Launch

PuppetMaster

"PS5 Pro should be the base version"

Some people are ridiculously illogical here 🤦‍♂️

If Sony announced PS5 with PS5 Pro specs and without disc drive back in 2020, the price tag will be around $800-1000.

Back then Covid made a negative impact to electronic industry with global chip shortage that made semiconductor price a lot more expensives. With $800-1000 price tag, i bet people will be angry and screaming from their lunge like Sony butchered their family and dogs lol.

Heck. People already b*tchin like nuts back in 2005 when Sony announced PS3 with $600 price tag.

Re: PlayStation's Dual CEO Setup Has 'Opportunities and Risks'

PuppetMaster

I don't think this two CEO is a good idea. It's like a ship has two Captain and they have different directions of where they want the ship to go.

Right now, Captain Hermen wants the ship to sail towards the heavenly live service island. But he's crashing the ship left and right while killing the crew one by one without any regrets or punishment. What a good Captain he is lmao.

On the other hand, Captain Nishino's just brushing the deck all day to look shiny while the ship got destroyed by Captain Hermen lol.

The only reason why the ship is still sailing is the talented crews of Insomniac, ND, Sucker Punch, Guerilla, PD, Housemarque, Bluepoint, Santa Monica, and Asobi. But for how long they can keep the ship working with these two Captain? 🤔

Re: Sony Knows How to Sell PS5 in China, And It's with Gacha

PuppetMaster

I don't care for this gacha game. But it's interesting to see that Sony rely more on China market for PS5 sales compare to Japan who pretty much became Nintendo / handheld market only.

But outside Black Myth Wukong, i wonder if single player games like FF, GOW, RE, or MonHun are popular in China...

Re: Concord Cost Sony Over $200 Million, And Didn't Make a Single Cent

PuppetMaster

@themightyant What part "don't ask me, ask the guy from Firewalk who claim Concord was in development for 8 years" that you don't understand?

They're the one who claimed that, NOT me. So i'm not sure why you're here saying it isn't true or misreported when the devs themself who said that fact.

And if you insist 8 years in development and $400 million is not true then go write an article about that with the proof from that discord or whatever.

Re: PS5, PC Flop Concord Never Returning, Studio Closed Down

PuppetMaster

@Strikke Without buying Square, those games userbase probably 60-80% are playing on PS. Which means Sony already got a lot of revenue from Square without wasting billions of $$$$ to acquire them.

And buying Square means Sony must restructure the company because as we speak Square has 4700+ employee. Just like Bungie, it will give more headache since laying off hundreds or even thousands of people will disrupting the workflow of current projects if Sony wants to integrated Square as SIE subsidiary.

Also, like i said, as long as Hermen still at the top, he will do more damage than good. So, imho Square should stay independent / 3rd party.

@Lavishturtle Here's the tweet from Firewalk. The writer claim they're a world class devs and delivered a great FPS experience with Concord 😆

Re: Concord Cost Sony Over $200 Million, And Didn't Make a Single Cent

PuppetMaster

$200 mill for the development cost + another $200 for big "the future of PS" marketing. I say $400 million isn't a far fetch numbers.

@get2sammyb Even a new Playstation All Stars Battle Royale will sell and make more money than Concord. The first game managed to sold 1 million copies PS3+Vita combine and for Sony it was a commercial failure.

Re: After a Tough Few Months, Sony Says It'll Keep Making PS5 Live Service Games

PuppetMaster

@Korgon "I liked Hulst when he was still working more on the development side at Guerilla"

Hermen wasn't in Killzone or Horizon development team. Heck, he never worked as a programmer, creative director, story writer, composer, chara design, or any creative role.

The guy was a consultant and marketeer at Ubisoft before The Lost Boys, Guerilla old name, hired him as managing director. So, Hermen is a pure businessmen hence why he obsessively chasing this live service trend.

Re: PS5, PC Flop Concord Never Returning, Studio Closed Down

PuppetMaster

Not surprised. Sony burn $400 million into ashes for this game so no way they make the studio as a support studio as if nothing happen. I got the feeling they will lost more with Fairgame$ and Marathon.

But what i'm surprised is the person who started this whole live service project as well champion this game as the "future of PS" aka Hermen Hulst still has his job.

Or maybe Sony CEO and shareholders gonna kick him out next year when they get a good replacement.

Nonetheless i don't think PS / SIE will learn anything from this case and got better with Hermen as the leader.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing the Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta?

PuppetMaster

No, i don't play the beta. MH is another popular series that i can't get into.

I tried MH 1 on PS2, MH 4 Ultimate on 3DS, and my final attempt with the series was MH World on PS4 back in 2017/18. I just can't find the fun with the core-gameplay loop and how 'sluggish' the control is.

It's probably better to play MH with your friends. It's like a party game where if you don't like the game but it will still fun to play with your friends.

Re: Random: Forward-Thinking PlayStation Gamer Spends $2,000 on 24 Years of PS Plus

PuppetMaster

@McTwist I think big chance Sony is still exist for another 24 or even 100 years even if somehow they don't make games anymore. I mean, before games / PS, they're producing electronics, movies, and music and to this day they're still one of the biggest company for those sectors.

But. I don't know if this site and many commenters in here including me and you still play games or even alive for the next 24 years...

Re: Bungie Provides Lengthy Development Update on PS5 Extraction Shooter, Marathon

PuppetMaster

"the goal of every session is to get out alive, and, along the way, you’re going to be completing quests, you’re going to be finding loot"

Just get out alive and collect loot?

Well, i guess this is why looter shooter never be my cup of tea. I tried Destiny for a couple of hours and i found the core gameplay loop isn't interesting. Then i tried Borderlands, The Division, and Warframe and i felt the same.

I can only say good luck to Bungie because they need this game to success. If not, daddy Sony will belt their ass again or worst deleted them from the family card lol.

Re: Sony's Japan Studio 'Forgot What It Feels Like to Have a Hit'

PuppetMaster

@ThroughTheIris56 You need to do some research before saying TGS and Gamescom aren't as big as E3.

FYI. E3 2016 only has 50K visitors while Gamescom 2016 has 345K visitors and TGS 2016 has more than 250K visitors. Both TGS and Gamescom also has live coverage by plenty of gaming and non-gaming media. Heck, i would dare to claim both TGS and Gamescom are bigger than E3 who at that point the popularity already dwindling down a lot especially among publishers. That means GR 2 has more coverage at TGS and Gamescom compare to E3.

Not to mention in 2016 Sony also held PS Experience / PSX in December and they not just brought the demo but also showed Raven DLC trailer for people who visited or watched the event from home. I say that already rectified GR 2 absent from their E3 conference.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LDBtebfXsSQ&pp=ygUfR3Jhdml0eSBSdXNoIDIgZ2FtZXNjb20gdHJhaWxlcg%3D%3D

Again. There's no such a thing as GR 2 wasn't well marketed when Sony paraded the game all around the world for almost a full year before release. Despite the effort, it just can't escape that very niche and experimental anime vibe that targeted at diehard gamers who's willing to try something new.

And delaying a release also part of the marketing. If GR 2 released in December 2016, it will be overshadowed by games like FF XV, COD IW, Pokemon Sun & Moon, and Super Mario Maker as well fight for that last spotlight with Sony's own The Last Guardian. In January, there's a lot less competitors with GR 2 released 4-5 days early than Yakuza 0, RE 7, and Tales of Berseria.

You and some people needs to accept the fact that good games can failed commercially despite they has solid marketing. It could have to do with oversaturated market or gamers change their taste / preference.

Not every cel shaded games with anime style sold well either. Capcom killer7, E.X. Trooper, and Okami for example, they are good games but they doesn't sold well. Or Bamco Eternal Sonata, Sega Valkyria Chronicles & Gungrave, Level 5 Jeanne D'Arc, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron, and Platinum MadWorld.

Re: Sony's Japan Studio 'Forgot What It Feels Like to Have a Hit'

PuppetMaster

@Nem This is just my prediction but i think Ape Escape suffers like some platformers in PS2 era. Like, they were popular and sold well in PS1 era but they gradually losing their steam in PS2 era. Similar to Crash, Spyro, or Klonoa who didn't do that well in PS2 era and then pretty much gone in PS3 era until they got revived in PS4 era with remakes/remaster/port.

From what i read, Ape Escape 1 managed to sold 1.1 million copies ww while Ape Escape 2 sold around 630K ww and On the Loose sold 250K ww. I can't find Ape Escape 3 sales numbers though so possibly it sold much lower than previous games.

Also back in PS2 era, the platformers market was very stack. There was plenty of interesting platformers like Ratchet, Sly Cooper, or Jak & Daxter, Maximo, or Psychonauts and people choose them over Ape Escape.

Re: Sony's Japan Studio 'Forgot What It Feels Like to Have a Hit'

PuppetMaster

@ThroughTheIris56 Sure they made mistake for not showing the game at their E3 2016 conference. But they brought it on the show floor where everyone can try the demo.

They also showed the game at TGS 2013, 2015, and 2016 as well Gamescom 2016 where everyone can try the demo. TGS and Gamescom are just as big as E3.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/wccftech.com/gravity-rush-2-gamescom-2016-hands-kat-learned/amp/

Heck, Sony delayed the game from December 2016 release to January 2017 because they want it to get full spotlight and not overshadowed by AAA games during holiday. So, saying GR 2 only had little to no marketing is just false.

And i bet a lot of people heard or seen Gravity Rush. I mean, pretty much everyone has internet. But they just didn't buy it for whatever reason.

Now if you're saying Sony barely market Puppeteer, Wild Arms, Soul Sacrifice, or Patapon then i would fully agreed.

Re: Sony's Japan Studio 'Forgot What It Feels Like to Have a Hit'

PuppetMaster

@greengecko007 Gravity Rush 2 actually got nice marketing. There's a cool live act commercial.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tgky0MmxSqk&pp=ygUZZ3Jhdml0eSBydXNoIDIgY29tbWVyY2lhbA%3D%3D

They hired Khara Studio, the one who made Neon Genesis Evangelion Rebuild movies, for an OVA that bridge the first and second game. Heck, they even made the anime free for anyone to watch on youtube.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tFeXtu-3u78&pp=ygUXZ3Jhdml0eSBydXNoIDIgb3ZlcnR1cmU%3D

Did a collab with SE for 2B costume DLC.

As well make solid Figma figure for Kat and Raven with Good Smile Company.
https://www.goodsmile.com/en/product/3911/figma+Gravity+Kat+2.0

The online feature got shut down one year after the game release which is unfortunate. But possibly Sony doesn't see many people used it combine with the game low sales.
