Re: Guerrilla's Next Horizon Game May Launch Sometime in 2025 on PS5

PuppetMaster

@cuttlefishjones Guerilla gave up Killzone because
1) They already done what they want with the story aka it's finished.
2) With Shadow Fall only sold 2.1 million copies and who knows what Mercernary numbers is, it's clear the series can't offer enough revenue for Guerilla / Sony in the long run anymore. Killzone series total sales stuck at 9-10 million copies ww.

Now Horizon series already sold 32 million copies ww since Zero Dawn debut back in 2017. In just 7 years, Horizon has triple sales than what Killzone did for 3 generations of console (PS2-PS4) + handheld (PSP-Vita).

Not to mention Horizon generated better merchandise than Killzone too such as Lego set, comic adaptation, funkos / action figures, and tabletop board. Plus, a tv series adaptation is in the work.

That's why Guerilla keep making Horizon not just the series is still young and has plenty of potentials but it prints money for them and Sony. They will stop once they don't have anymore story to tell and the series stop printing money.

Re: Resistance's Release on PS Plus Premium Proves There's Still a Fanbase for the FPS

PuppetMaster

I still have Res 1 & 2 copy and not long ago i tried to replay them.

But weirdly, every time i started the game from XMB, it always gave me error code 80010514 for disc is dirty or damage despite my PS3 slim can read the disc like showing thumbnail and short clip. And the disc also clean since i always put them in their case. Anyone have the same experience?

I would love a remaster collection and with a working multiplayer too. But the question is if SIE under Hermen will greenlight the remaster?

Re: Conspiratorial Fans Think PS5 Ad Teasing December State of Play, PlayStation Showcase

PuppetMaster

Possibly a PS Showcase since Nishino already said started next year they will release major games for every year. So I'm not surprised if they wants to tease those games from ND, Bluepoint, Housemarque etc as well some 3rd party games.

And like @colonelkilgore said about past event which Sony celebrated PS 25th anniversary with PS Experience. I don't know if they gonna held another PS Experience but i can see they throw a showcase and big discount on PS Store.

Re: Six Months After Closing Tango Gameworks, Xbox 'In the Market' for Asian Studios

PuppetMaster

@Flaming_Kaiser Funnily, Sony always came out on top of the competition with better strategy, marketing, and lineup games. Not sure why MS always fked up despite they have more money than Sony lol. But i guess money also the reason why MS always fked up. They think with money alone they can win the competition easily.

@LogicStrikesAgain "Relying on Team Asobi or other first party studios, while others buy the biggest IPs in existence like GTA for example would in my opinion be a weak move."

Meanwhile Nintendo doesn't do any acquisition and just rely heavily on their 1st party studios and they can sold more Switch than PS5 & Xbox series combine. Heck, Nintendo only need to sell 16-17 million more units to reach PS2 numbers. So i don't think it's a weak move if Sony heavily rely on their 1st party studios just like Nintendo.

I mean. Back in PS3 era when pretty much all big 3rd party goes full multiplat especially Japanese devs like SE, Konami, Capcom, or Bamco who always made exclusives for Sony. What save PS3 and turn the table against X360 was mostly Sony 1st party games. Titles like TloU, Uncharted, GOW, LBP, Resistance, Killzone, GT, Infamous, Ratchet, Motorstorm, SingStar, Demon's Souls, and Socom did the heavy lifting for PS3.

If Sony can do it back in PS3 era then i say Sony can do it for this gen and in the future too, especially when right now Sony is in better financial compare to PS3 era where they're bleeding money left and right and almost bankrupt.

Re: Six Months After Closing Tango Gameworks, Xbox 'In the Market' for Asian Studios

PuppetMaster

I don't know who they gonna buy next but i hope they stay away from Japan, China, and Korea devs.

@LogicStrikesAgain "I’d rather Sony make some acquisitions"

I'd rather Sony stop any acquisition and just focus on what they have right now. They got baited into stupid acquisition race with MS and wasted $3 billions for Bungie and who knows how much with Firewalk and Haven Studios.

Heck, i rather they expand Team Asobi into a bigger studio so they can working on two games in the same time instead of one. Hired back any ex-Japan Studios and get them do a new IP or revive classic ones like Ape Escape, Wild Arms, etc that really needs a revival.

Re: Stellar Blade's Anticipated PC Port Takes Flight Sometime in 2025

PuppetMaster

@Gamer83 Sure they would be fine financially. But without Stellar Blade, they wouldn't earn a good chunk of additional revenue or grab more shareholders that made their company as one of the biggest gaming company in South Korea.
https://gameworldobserver.com/2024/07/12/shift-up-ipo-320-million-largest-since-krafton

Again. I'm really glad you're not Shift Up CEO or Stellar Blade wouldn't exist.

Re: Square Enix's New AAA Games Are Being Trounced by Final Fantasy 14

PuppetMaster

This year SE has released pretty high quality RPG that received positive receptions like VII Rebirth, Romancing Saga 2 remake, and Visions of Mana.

But the way SE report their financial results feels like they doesn't have anything that prints money beside FF XIV. It's just weird.

Maybe DQ 3 remake will give them that big profits that they want?

Re: Game Size Not as Important as It Used to Be, Says Yakuza Creator

PuppetMaster

Currently, i'm avoiding RPG or open world and prefer playing side scrolling games, twin stick shooter, action hack & slash, beat em up, or fighting games where i can boot up and play the game for an hour or two.

I don't hate RPG or open world games though. In fact, some of my favs games are RPG's like Vagrant Story, FF 7, Xenogears, Yakuza, or Wild Arms.

But i've been playing tons of games for 30+ years and i feel i've played enough of RPG where right now i don't want to spend 4-8 hours /day sitting in a chair to read a lot of dialogues after dialogues, scrolling down the menu, and manage armor/weapons/items.

Re: Hands On: PS5 Pro Injects More Magic into Hogwarts Legacy

PuppetMaster

For you @PsBoxSwitchOwner and anyone who complaining and got angry about PS5 Pro articles, i seriously reccomend logging off from the internet & social media for like a week long.

You guys made a big fuss over gaming articles that you don't care but informative for other people is a clear sign that you spent too much time on the internet & social media and it affected negatively on your emotion / mental health.

Re: PlayStation Has Swiftly Solved Its Profitability Problem

PuppetMaster

@Karosso75 "It feels like every game has to be a open world RPG this days"

Nah. There's tons of new non-open world RPG games to play. Like these games for example:

  • Kunitsu Gami
  • Shadow of the Ninja Reborn
  • Space Marine 2
  • Astro Bot
  • Helldivers 2
  • Prince of the Persia: Lost Crown
  • Slitterhead
  • Metal Slug Tactics
  • Tekken 8
  • Slave Zero X
  • Kill Knight
  • Silent Hill 2 remake
  • Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind

From those games, we got:

  • A hybrid of tower defense + hack & slash + strategy
  • 2D side scrolling action-platforming
  • Linear 3rd person shooter
  • 3D platformer
  • Co-op PvE 3rd person shooter
  • Metroidvania
  • Action adventure / horror game
  • Turn based tactics
  • 3D fighting game
  • 2D hack & slash games
  • Arcade top down twin stick shooter
  • Survival horror
  • 2D Beat em Up

Re: LEGO Horizon Adventures Is Getting a Surprisingly Huge Marketing Push

PuppetMaster

@Majin_Deicide Possibly the same reason with MLB. Sony doesn't own Lego so Lego asked Sony to release this game for Switch in exchange for using their property. But Sony probably negotiate for no Xbox version.

@KundaliniRising333 I'm baffled with people like you who still misunderstood games for all age with games specifically created for kids. Plenty of adults bought and play Lego for decades, not just kids.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 554

PuppetMaster

I'm only playing SF 6 all day.

I put Manon and Cammy to Master rank but i go back to my boy Ed because his gameplay fits perfectly with my playing style. But man, trying to reach 1600 MR is difficult. I even got down to 1300-1400 MR although i managed to get back to 1500 MR again. It feels like my skills reach a roadblock 😔

Re: Astro Bot Sells 1.5 Million PS5 Copies Inside Nine Weeks

PuppetMaster

@RoomWithaMoose It does matter. I take Nintendo words who put Echoes as a mainline Zelda game over an opinion from some stranger in the internet. Not sure either why are you acting as if Zelda games before BotW / Tears are not important lol.

Public perception clearly showed Echoes is an important Zelda game, especially with Zelda herself became main playable character for the 1st time in the mainline game.

Re: Sony Promises It'll Launch Major PS5 Single Player Games Every Year Moving Forwards

PuppetMaster

@twitchtvpat Yes. Housemarque, Bluepoint, and Bend Studio are working on a new IP.

ND and Santa Monica also working on a new IP beside TloU 3 and new GOW which they already confirmed from some interview or job listings. My guess is they probably save TloU 3 and new GOW for PS6 or cross gen release.

And yeah, i think we can count Wolverine as a new IP for Insomniac because this is the 1st time they're working on the IP.

Also. There's plenty of new IP from China, India, and Middle East-North Africa Hero Projects.

Re: Sony Promises It'll Launch Major PS5 Single Player Games Every Year Moving Forwards

PuppetMaster

@KundaliniRising333 GOW, TLOU, Spiderboy, Uncharted, and Horizon are Sony staples franchise along with Ghost of, Ratchet, GT, and MLB. It's like Nintendo with Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Fire Emblem, and Pokemon or Xbox with Halo, Gears, and Forza.

You're free to say you're tired of them. But a new sequel from those franchise is guaranteed to come out and millions of PS fans will buy it.

Example like GOW. The 2018 reboot (23 mill) + Ragnarok (15 million) sales combine is 38 million copies, much higher than GOW titles on PS2, PS3, and PSP combine.

Sony are dumb af if they abandon their money printing machines just because some people in the internet had enough of the franchise.

And i'm sure they're working on multiple new IP's. But the biggest question is the quality. This gen we already seen new IP's like Destruction AllStars and Concord failed miserably. But there's also a success like Returnal. So we will see if Fairgame$, Matter, and whatever unannounce new IP can sell well or not...

Re: Astro Bot Sells 1.5 Million PS5 Copies Inside Nine Weeks

PuppetMaster

@RoomWithaMoose Echoes of the Wisdom isn't a spin-off like Hyrule Warriors or Link's Crossbow Training but it's officially count as a mainline Zelda game, just like BotW / Tears of the Kingdom. And it has the big gimmick that Princess Zelda herself finally became the main playable character in a mainline game.

So your comparison doesn't makes any sense here. Zelda is a massively popular franchise with big fanbase while Astro Bot is a very niche series that started as a VR game (or a tech demo if you want to include The Playroom) who just got the 2nd full fledge game. This is like you comparing Okami or Vagrant Story sales with GTA / FF / RE / Pokemon and then called it's not a success.

And FYI the first Zelda game sold 6.5 million copies on NES alone. I wish Astro Bot has Zelda popularity but maybe in the future.

Re: Astro Bot Sells 1.5 Million PS5 Copies Inside Nine Weeks

PuppetMaster

@RBRTMNZ Many AA games has 60 bucks price. Octopath Traveler for example, it's an AA game and SE gave 60 bucks price tag. For AAA, 70 bucks is the normal standard price right now.

And the marketing doesn't look like an AAA blockbuster game considering Sony:

  • doesn't rent a big billboard to showed the game
  • doesn't showed the trailer at many theaters unlike what they did with Uncharted 4 or God of War
  • doesn't hired any Holywood A-list celebrities to promo the game

The biggest ads Sony did was showed the trailer at EVO for 3 days, showed at TGS, and has an offline launch event at some Asian countries.

If the numbers are dissapointing, Sony wouldn't showed or even announced it.

@Gamer83 No it's not a failure and Sony never expect a small budget game can sell 10+ million copies in less than two months.

Re: Astro Bot Sells 1.5 Million PS5 Copies Inside Nine Weeks

PuppetMaster

@RoomWithaMoose "In about the same timeframe, The Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom sold more than 2.3 million. Sooo..."

Ah yes. Let's compare it with Zelda, a very popular and 37 years long running franchise with 20+ games and sold 150 million copies ww. That makes sense.

@RBRTMNZ Outlaws is an AAA game with Ubisoft spent the bigget marketing budget in their history for the game. On the other hand Astro Bot is an AA game. So yes, only sold 1 million copies is a failure for Outlaws.

Re: Astro Bot Sells 1.5 Million PS5 Copies Inside Nine Weeks

PuppetMaster

@Shad361 "These are average numbers at best. Especially for a 94 meta game, that everyone on the internet said they “wanted more of”, yet only like 1 in 60 PS5 owners bought the game.et only like 1 in 60 PS5 owners bought the game"

So by your own logic, Spiderman 2 sold 11 millions copies is 'average at best' since only 11 millions of 65 million PS5 owners who bought the game? Gosh, you need to touch some grass 🤦‍♂️

"Any half decent game with a name can sell a million copies"

I don't know what are these 'half decent game with a name' that you're talking about and why you're comparing them with Astro Bot.

But clearly many decent-good games can't sell a million copies. Example from Sony own games:

  • Puppeteer
  • Tearaway
  • Jeanne D'Arc
  • Gravity Rush
  • Freedom Wars
  • Soul Sacrifice
  • Forbidden Siren
  • Patapon

So yes Astro Bot is sold well no matter how many spins you're doing right now.

Re: Sony Comments on Concord Disaster, Says Game Should Have Been Tested Earlier

PuppetMaster

@thedevilsjester I really doubt that Sony are okay to lost multiple $400+ million as well put their first party studios in the chopping block from messing around with live service games.

Sure Sony made profits right now and one of the biggest factor is thanks to their single player games that help people to spend their money on PS brand.

But if Sony didn't answer the fans request and keeps losing hundreds of millions over and over and over from crappy live service games, not just PS brand will looks bad in consumers / PS fans eyes but Sony will lost shareholders too which is probably one the biggest nightmare for Sony.

Re: Sony Comments on Concord Disaster, Says Game Should Have Been Tested Earlier

PuppetMaster

> Astro Bot

  • Sold 1.5 million copies in 9 weeks since release
  • 94% at metacritic
  • GotY candidate
  • Tons of people loves it
  • It's an AA game with 3 years devs cycle & 60 people.
    VS
    > Concord
  • Sold 25K copies
  • 62% at metacritic
  • Got shutdown in just two weeks
  • Most people doesn't want it
  • Hundreds of million down the drain
  • An astronomical failure and a big stain for SIE / PS records

Totoki, you already got the recipe for success so don't repeat another Concord.

Re: Hypnotic PS5 Pro Boot Screen, Background Worth the Upgrade

PuppetMaster

@WizzNL "Im not the only 1 complaining or getting tired about all these articles"

You and some people are 'getting tired' for clicking a news thread and complaining about a plastic box that you don't have any interest? Lol you Gen Z are really sad.

"Do you really need an article about the package being the same as the PS5 Slim?"

I don't need it but i'm sure somebody wants to know about it. If you don't need it then don't click it. It's not that hard.

Re: Astro Bot Sells 1.5 Million PS5 Copies Inside Nine Weeks

PuppetMaster

Good news and congrats to Team Asobi / Sony 👏🍻

@Gamer83 For an unknown IP that started as a VR game, the fact this 2nd game can sold 1.5 million copies in 9 weeks since release + 94% at Metacritic is definitely not sucks nor a massive failure.

Not to mention this game doesn't have AAA budget. So big chance Astro Bot already break even + make profits for Sony.

Re: Hypnotic PS5 Pro Boot Screen, Background Worth the Upgrade

PuppetMaster

@WizzNL Right now i see news about

  • Multiversus underperform
  • Amazon Mass Effect tv show
  • Sega delisted classic games
  • Black Ops 6
  • MGS 3 Eva VA
  • GTA 6
  • Take Two 2 sold Private Division
  • Take Two CEO comment about Borderland movie flop
  • Dontnod devs strike in Paris
  • Metacritic respons for DA: Veilguard review bombing
  • Astro Bot new level
  • Astro Bot sold 1.5 million copies
  • Astro Bot guide
  • PS5 sold 65.5 million units
  • Sega revive Virtua Fighter

All these non-PS5Pro news are in the first page. So, if you claim "there's not much to click" then i'm questioning if your eyes are working properly or you're too lazy to scroll down and just wants to complaint about PS5Pro.

Re: MultiVersus Underperforms, Another $100 Million Blow for Warner Bros.

PuppetMaster

Cmiiw outside Smash and Brawlhalla, i think there's not much success for platform fighters.

This game, Nickelodeon All Star Brawl, Brawlout, and PSABR doesn't do well. But i heard Rivals of Aether did well so...maybe it's just a matter of gameplay, contents, and the moneytization? With WB, i bet they locked a lot of stuff behind expensive paywall.

I personally never like platform fighter so i don't care if they didn't do well.
