Re: Don't Nod Financials Result in Reorganisation and Layoffs, Cancelled Projects

@Gewertzx
Yeah, much like The Witcher 3 and Skyrim. Those are huge games with lots of complex systems in place. Bugs (especially at launch) are commonplace for open world games. I tend to try to enjoy them rather than obsess over minor details. Played CP2077 on launch on XSX in 1800p/30 and completed the game without any gamebreaking bugs. The metro system that so many folks were clamouring about is finally in the game and I feel it adds nothing to it. Never once used it. It seems some gamers are very keen on focusing on the negatives rather than positives of a game these days.

@Weez
Those are impressive numbers and you do make some good points here. Those games you mentioned are all blockbusters that also happen to be evergreens. I think they will keep selling for a long time yet. Don’t NOD aren’t in that league and I guess it’s much more difficult to get there than it used to be (major leagues, to quote Jackie from CP2077). Games are more and more like movies- if they don’t sell well upon launch they are usually doomed.
@Gewertzx
Ah, you still sore about that? They messed it up because they unnecessarily wanted the game to play on last gen consoles. The game was amazing on launch on PC (I played it on XSX at the time and it was great). I hate to break it to you, but CP2078 or whatever it’s called is prolly also going to be very successful.

@rusty82
This. Gamers who game for the experience, the plot and the thrill of experiencing something new are a dying breed. It’s a deeper issue, I think. Others have also mentioned it. We live in very difficult times and the struggles of the gaming industry reflect that. It’s funny, watching my favourite game (Cyberpunk 2077) becoming a reality day by day.

Re: Opinion: The Price of Playing PS5 Games Day One Is Getting Higher and Higher

gollumb82

Gaming isn’t a cheap hobby, but it’s far from an expensive one. Unless, you want/need the very best hardware and the newest software. I don’t need either. I buy games 6-8 months from launch, sometimes much later than that. I bought Astro at launch to support Team Asobi, but before that the last launch title I bought was CP2077. Ultimately, there is one thing that needs to be said: things are worth as much money as someone is willing to pay for them. Apparently, many people are ready and willing to pay $70+ per game. No amount of shaking one’s fist will change it. Just play your way.

@StrickenBiged
Don’t get me started on Stellar Blade haha. I did tell my daughter that she’s way too young to play Horizon. She was a bit upset, but started playing Gran Turismo 7 instead 😂 (Blue Moon Speedway only and only time trials for now lol).
@somnambulance
Oh, I know. My daughter played a total of 180 hours of Astro’s Playroom 😁 She’s already 50+ hours in Astro Bot so she is bound to put in a crazy number of hours into that too.

Re: PlayStation Community Reflects on Iconic Uncharted 2: Among Thieves for 15th Anniversary

gollumb82

I love the entire series. Uncharted 1 was the first game that made me feel like I was playing an interactive movie (not a negative term in my book) and its visuals, animation and set pieces blew me away in 2007. Uncharted 2 was great, but I found Lazarevic to be an uninteresting antagonist. The gameplay, graphics and the other characters were all highlights, though and I replay the entire series come summer every year. It just feels like watching an entire series of perfect summer flicks. Imagine that ND released 4 games over PS3’s lifespan and zero for PS5 through 4 years of its existence (remakes and remasters don’t count for me)… Depressing.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 550

I just want to apologise to everyone here who has been preaching the awesomeness of OLED displays and their superiority over everything else (because I dismissed them, sometimes in a vocal manner). Got my first OLED a few days ago and I’ve just been floored by Horizon Forbidden West, which I chose to play through on it first. It’s the most beautiful game I’ve ever played in my 30+ years of gaming. CP2077 comes as a close second. In addition to HFW, some WRC 23 and Generations on the side. Happy gaming all!

Re: Aug 2024 USA Sales: Console Sales Take a Sharp Decline, But PS5 Is Still King

gollumb82

@LowDefAl
That is a fair point. Main reason why I went back to PS5 and sold my ROG Ally. I was tinkering with the settings more than actually gaming and it started to irritate me. Also, HDR is still broken on PC. Shader compilation in UE games is still a mess on PC and WRC 23 is basically still unplayable on PC a year from launch due to constant stutter. On PS5 the game is smooth as butter. Then again Until Dawn Remake uses UE5 and it stutters as well. Sigh. The state of gaming in 2024 I guess. Still, there’s no denying console gaming is just more convenient and streamlined.

Re: Aug 2024 USA Sales: Console Sales Take a Sharp Decline, But PS5 Is Still King

gollumb82

@NEStalgia
You made some great points as usual NES. I have had a Switch v2 for a few years now but it’s mainly used by my daughter. That said, I have noticed her (she’s 7) losing interest in it and instead playing games on my PS5 (Astro, Spyro, Little Big Planet). Last game I bought for her was Princess Peach Showtime and that was half a year ago). I wonder if Switch 2 will indeed have an nVidia gpu as some rumours suggested. If true, it could be much more expensive than S1 and spell doom for Ninty. As for Sony and Playstation, I figure the next couple of years will show the direction in which the whole industry is headed in. I’m good with my PS5 for now but I’ll definitely be thinking hard on what to get next and it’s going to be either a PS6 or PC.

Re: Aug 2024 USA Sales: Console Sales Take a Sharp Decline, But PS5 Is Still King

gollumb82

Nothing lasts forever. PS5 (and even XSX) sales were highly inflated over the Covid and post-Covid period due to hardware shortages. Now the market is saturated and you can get a used PS5 for as little as $300 in Poland. I doubt PS5 Pro will improve the situation much. While both PS5 and XSX are great consoles hardware-wise there just haven’t been so many essential games that would make you dream of having one. Quite a few people moved over to PC due to the slow death of exclusives. I wonder how the Switch 2 will fare next year but I expect it to explode as Nintendo still values its first party output enough to keep it close to their chest.

Re: Sony's Porting PS2 Horror Siren to Its New PS5, PS4 Emulator

gollumb82

Yeah, I think PS2 and PS3 games will keep coming to PS5 and PS6. The reason why I think so is that shortly before I sold my Ally I was using a lot of emulators and right before I got rid of it one of the most prominent sites for PS3 roms shut down the rom section citing some obscure agency demanding they do so. Something tells me Sony finally realised the potential that still lies within the dormant PS3 franchises and this move may mean they will be bringing them back, so we can pay for them again on PS5/6. I would buy a lot of PS3 titles if they ever released on PS5/6 in a heartbeat. Hope it happens.

Re: PS5 Pro, 30th Anniversary Consoles Now Available at More Retailers

gollumb82

@SuzannahE
It’s funny the Pro enthusiasts always assume that whoever complains about the Pro can’t afford one. I decided to get an Alienware OLED monitor instead of PS5 Pro because ALL my games will benefit from the upgrade. I’ll happily wait for PS6 to experience a bigger jump in graphical fidelity, but I don’t bash those who want to get the Pro.

Re: Sony Now Selling Refurbished PS5 Consoles

gollumb82

I used to be wary of refurbished stuff till I bought my Alienware 4K OLED monitor a few days ago. It’s refurbished, came in the original box with all the cables and accessories. It’s in mint condition and cost me $200 less than the price of a new unit. I’d say that’s a great deal and I’ll be looking for more refurbished electronics stuff from now on. Good decision by Sony.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Silent Hill 2?

gollumb82

It’s on my wishlist, but so are about 25 other titles (only got back into Playstation being my main gaming platform a few weeks ago). Too busy picking up my jaw from the floor playing Horizon FW, but I am very happy to see so many folks here enjoying SH2R.

Re: Classic PS4 Racer DriveClub Is Now a Decade Old

gollumb82

Driveclub was a great game that I enjoyed, but opponent AI was terrible. My favourite car game from Evolution was WRC 4 on PS2. Wasted many hours playing it back in the day. Acrually ran the game on ROG Ally and in 1080p/50 it still looks good! Plays just as well as I remembered, too. A terrible mistake by Sony to shut them down.

Re: Astro Bot's Excellent Soundtrack Is Now Available on Music Streaming Services

gollumb82

Fantastic news! As some folks have already said, some Astro Bot songs have been playing on repeat in my head since I started playing it at launch. Fun fact: me and my daughter put around 180 hours into Astro’s Playroom and I’m pretty sure we will put even more into Astro Bot (already over 50 hours).
Edit: my fave song is Follow Me into the Storm 😁

Re: PS5's Building Insurmountable Lead Over Rival, Outselling Xbox Almost 3:1

gollumb82

It always makes me laugh how the people who benefit from these sales numbers the least (gamers) get caught up in this „my console of choice is outselling yours” nonsense. The fact remains that this gen has been the weakest ever for Playstation and if this keeps up my PS5 will be the last Playstation I buy. A lot of hardware, too few first party games (that aren’t remakes, remasters, rehashes). The same can be said about MS.

Re: PS5 Pro Shows Real Promise in First Expert Analysis

gollumb82

@Pranwell
Lol, I bought a gaming PC for $1300 2 years ago so I can totally afford it. DLSS is leagues better than anything it is compared with currently. I’m just not a fan of devs telling us the only way to enjoy nice graphics in games is upscaling. It still causes graphical artifacts, blurry image and such. Seems like laziness and lack of effort trying to optimise a game. I’m no fanboy so I’m good just waiting to see where it all goes. I’ll defo be skipping the Pro and maybe I’ll get a PS6. However, I’m seriously considering going back to PC full time instead.

Re: Suda 51 Says 'Everyone Cares Too Much About Metacritic Scores'

gollumb82

Totally agree, but I would add Digital Foundry as well. The level of obsession over fps, frame pacing, upscaling and all the graphical mumbo jumbo has really killed the gaming community’s enjoyment of games. They are to be scrutinized like some sort of research project. A review score of 7/10 or even 8/10 is considered to be an average/bad game. This is where we are atm.

Re: Sony Boss Says 'PCs Are Difficult to Set Up', Firm Will Focus on PS5

gollumb82

What he means is that Sony has been having a hard time optimising games for the PC (just to mention the Horizon ZD and The Last of Us debacles). Ghost of Tsushima is the first great port that they put out (okay, Rarchet was also good). Also, PC players don’t want another account to set up (sic) to play games on their platform. This is what’s bugging the Sony brass. I do have a PS5, but rarely use it and if I do it’s only for games I can’t play on my ROG Ally (my mini PC of sorts)- The Last Guardian, TLoU2 etc. Going forward I will definitely keep buying handheld PCs because of my lifestyle and limited time for gaming (can always hook them up to a tv). I doubt I will buy a PS6 after what I have witnesses from Sony this gen (price hikes, close to zero first party output, profit over platform approach).

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Astro Bot?

gollumb82

10/10. The game is pure fun for all generations of gamers, but especially so for longtime Playstation fans (all the cameos from staple PS franchises brought tears to my eyes). I have just downloaded all the Ape Escape games to my ROG Ally as a direct result of enjoying the Ape Escape level so much. More of this and less of live service please!
