Neah... Sony's gonna sit on the Remake for a while longer, and use it eventually to promote a console, most likely PS6. Just like they did with Demon's Souls for PS5. And most likely, there's not gonna be any PC version. Those are the only two From Software/Miyazaki made/directed IP's they actually own, so they're not available for sharing or for casual launches.
If it'll be like the first 2 games, then I'm all for it ! Genesis was meh, and 3rd was a bit more ok, but still didn't live up to the initial 2 games, which I love! I'd rather have them return to that, to what made the franchise great in the first place: full on action-adventure game, serious story, and very well peppered with exploration, secrets and puzzles.
Well, whaddaya know, finally a useful monthly offer!
Gonna get Lego Star Wars for my son.
He'll have plenty to chew on until Astro Bot comes next month.
Sounds ok, at least for now... I'm not a huge fan of Star Wars, but the angle from which this game looks at the franchise sounds intriguing. If the reviews will be in the same ballpark, I'll get 1 month of Ubisoft+ and give it a go.
A mix-up most likely... I'm happy, however, that there's been no Remaster announcement... there's still hope for a proper Remake or Reboot, that would serve this beloved franchise a lot more than a simple coat of paint.
For me this IP lost it's appeal after Borderlands 1.
Coming from playing BL1, a game I finished at least 4-5 times with all of it's DLC's, and I had a blast in solo and coop... I preordered Borderlands 2, hoping to have at least the same experience... boy, was I disappointed.
Weapons were added by the millions but became meaningless, drop rate and quality were insufficient to keep up with the difficulty spikes... Shields too... Healing was no longer "in your hands" so to speak, you had to rely only on what dropped (if dropped) or on leach (IF you had good weapons... huge ass IF) etc... BL2 was unnecessarily hard for this reason, even in a coop party.... it ceased to be fun.
Tried Borderlands 3 because I received it as a gift on one of my PC parts (CPU I think)... But found it lacking in all areas, and lost all interest in it at about 30% into the solo campaign...
I'm curious to see what they come up with in Borderlands 4, but unless it's superbly done, I won't get it full price (if at all...)
@Ilyn Remaking the whole franchise, starting from Blood Omen and ending up with Defiance... breaking them down, adding missing time periods, adding removed content, augmenting and improving upon the story (bringing Amy Henning in on it again), bringing the combat mechanics up to date etc...
And making at least a duology out of it all.
Then continue it with a new game.
Hell yeah, that would be EPIC! Mostly utopic and almost "no chance in hell of it actually becoming reality", but I would definitely want that!
Gonna go against the waves here, and state that Remastering those games is a mistake. As in "not the best way to go about it" Remaking them would be much wiser, especially from the mechanics point of view, augmenting and bringing them to current times... otherwise they'll just be enjoyed by the existing fans and that's about it. The IP will wake up and go back to sleep faster than you can say Kain. They should do what Capcom has done with Resident Evil 2, if they really care about bringin this franchise back to life.
I LOVE all the 3 Soul Reaver games, and it would be absolutely epic if they would be brought back into the spotlight. But only if done properly, and not in mockery and for the sake of a quick buck like in so many other cases....
It'll come this year, with an announcement most likely at Gamescom at the end of August.
There's also TGS at the end of September, but that seems a bit too late in the year.
Also possible to announce it in a separate event (PS state of play for example) - we'll see.
Alas, they can't delay it for next year, if they plan to release it at all.
The more it's launch approaches PS6's (rumored for 2027-2028 for now), the more useless it becomes...
Either it's launched mid-lifecycle or not at all.
Looks ok, but from the trailer at least I don't think it'll surpass a rating of 7...
However, since it's on game pass, I'll give it a try - you never know where a hidden gem can lie.
Quite a lot of recipes you can cook with "milk of the franchise", innit?
I do appreciate the article though, trying them out in real life and offering the POV of a regular person... even substituting some of the ingredients where unavailable, something that can happen to anyone.
And the results look very tasty! Good job!
@DennisReynolds If you have another name for it, do tell.
To me at least it's in the same category of features with the oh so easily missable side quests, no quest guides or quest log, no map checkpoints, no included "GPS" to guide you from your location to a chosen destination, no Diary or Log of every attack you can make and how to do it, no in-game "Bestiary" with enemy strengths and weaknesses etc - all of them are found in other open world games but will never be included in From's "Souls-related" IP's - at least not while Miyazaki is in charge.
@DennisReynolds
Missing NPC quest lines because of in-game actions and passing points of no return without realizing : staples of From's games.
And also proof of :
how much "hand holding" is included in so many other games.
how active, cunning and relentless are the "Souls" communities, that always somehow manage to find the solutions and put together guides and tutorials O_O
@CVCubbington Not exactly free time, to creators this is what they do for a living. Constantly coming up with content that can increase or at least keep your current subscriber / follower numbers is not as easy as it seems at first glance.
Finished each and every one of From's Souls genre games, from Demon's Souls to Elden Ring.
And from them all, Bloodborne had the difficulty balanced in the best way. It had the best ratios of "risk-reward" and "tough but fair" categories, above all it's siblings.
Ever since Sekiro From started adding extra moves on enemies... just when you think they'll stop attacking, they'll just keep on going with a few more hits. They even made some enemies relentlessly attacking for dozens of seconds...
They even added some input reading in Elden Ring, which was both unnecessary and a lame ass cheap way of increasing difficulty. It doesn't make bosses smarter, but more annoying - needlessly.
You can get over them with patience and perseverance...
But aside from Bloodborne I find mine are starting to wear pretty thin.
Especially with the Shadow of the Eardtree DLC - which just cranks the damage and life of some of the enemies and bosses to effed up levels, for no actual reason but to make the game hard - and the rewards just don't match this effort!
It's actually taking all the fun out of it.
Beating bosses like Father Gascoigne or Lady Maria or Gherman, that was an absolute thrill and a brilliant adrenaline rush. Beating bosses in SOTE is just very annoying.
I really don't like the direction that From is taking this genre into right now.
I hope Sony gives Miyazaki the green light for Bloodborne 2 soon, until it's not too late and he retires from directing games.
And that he makes it in the same difficulty area as the first game.
That would actually be... perfect!
It's best to stagger releases if the studio is rather small, and doesn't have the manpower to work on different platforms at the same time.
Look what happened when even a big studio like CD PR tried to bite a lot more than in could chew with Cyberpunk, and it's releasing on various platforms at the same time... The abysmal state that the game was in... they had to spend a lot of time after that repairing not only the game, but also the studio's reputation.
And that's a big arse studio, that already had prior huge successes to rely on, like the Witcher series.
For a small one like Game Science, with almost nothing under it's belt, to find itself in a similar situation it could very well spell bankruptcy.
To my eye they did a very smart thing. Also, it's not like it's a straight up PS5 exclusive, it releases on PC too.
It'll come to Xbox when it's good and ready.
People making baseless accusations on social media serves no one and nothing but their own interests.
Oh yes, will dig into it in about 30min.
Won't have but 1h today, and it's certainly gonna take a few weeks until I see the credits due to my limited gaming time.
But I loved very much the exploration feeling the base Elden Ring gave, how it fed my curiosity and rewarded me for it with something worthwhile (most of the times).
So I think I'm gonna enjoy delving into the DLC too!
To do the sequel in 3 years could mean 3 things (at least) - they'll either:
aim for a shorter or "lesser" game... not likely
widen the dev team by a ton... my guess is they'll augment it, yes, but not by much.
or they will use many assets and mechanics from the first title... which both makes sense for a sequel and is not unheard of (think GoW Ragnarok for example). And I'm very OK with that.
Unless anything changes for the worse until launch, I'll be there day 1.
It was clear from other interviews that Miyazaki is prevented from discussing Bloodborne directly (NDA maybe, part of the contract with Sony, etc) - I don't know why media is pushing the same issue again.
Weather he wants it or not - it's not in his hands, it all depends on Sony.
And Sony apparently is not the same company we knew back then, it's current ruling body is too busy making blunder after blunder, and doesn't give a crap about what it's clients want (generally speaking, not just about Bloodborne).
I hope it's competitors give it some heavy kicks where it hurts the most: sales and market share.
Maybe then they'll wake the capital F up and revise their current paths...
Part of me wants to hope they'll at least do a Bluepoint style Bloodborne Remake available as a sale booster for PS6 in 2027-2028, and a PC port to go with it after some exclusivity time.
But I'm not holding my breath, not with the way things are currently going for PS5...
Watching the presentation last night, this Outlaws IP left me with the distinct impression that it's nothing but an Assassin's Creed game set "in galaxy far far away"
The enemy detection though walls is now shifted to the companion, but it works in the exact same way.
The item pick-ups have the same distinct "point" icon until you approach them and the full icon unfolds.
The same type of location description found in AC Odyssey and Valhalla on Exploration mode, to help you reach the mission location.
The same hand-holding is present in the game, as in AC in general, and the same "rich" HUD (you can say somewhat bloated)
Then the next thought was: why did I even hope this would be something completely different? To paraphrase a known quote :
"THIS IS UBISOFT!" AC is their biggest asset, of course they're gonna milk every mechanic from it that they can.
But as many will eventually do (even if they admit it or not), I'm gonna still give it a go, 'cause it looks fun-enough.
Not gonna invest the full price though, gonna take a month of ubisoft+, 'cause it's cheaper, safer, less risky. Just like the game itself.
This IP is all but forgotten, mainly kept alive by media's tendency to use it as incentive to start conversations.
For myself I played it back in the day, and enjoyed it then.
But I barely remember fractions of it.
And it was no huge masterpiece, just a fun game mostly made for kids.
As for a sequel - that would be a mistake.
Most or the current target audience hasn't even heard of the original... No offense to them, but they were not even in their future parent's life plans at the time. So what would be the point ?
It would be far better served by a proper Reboot.
Besides, Ubisoft has Star Wars Outlaws now, which is not that far off from BG&E... it's not exactly for kids but it has the same type of hero(ine) and spirit.
With this whole "port my exclusive games on other platforms" trend that's going on, a feeling is creeping up, that I cant shake: that we're heading for the complete retirement of the "desk console as we know it" in ~10-15 years....
Either the full size consoles will end up like laptops, you'll be able to play any game on them, xbox, playstation etc...
Or they'll go the way of the dodo altogether, and all new AAA graphics-heavy games will be made for PC directly... Also to take into account are the difficulties of keeping console prices below 1000$ while offering very good graphics at 4k and 60fps ad minima (not to mention 8k that'll be entering the market in force in ~5 years tops)
And the only "true" consoles remaining will be handhelds... Switch 2 or 3, whatever PS ans Xbox portable variants will be releasing then, and new versions of the rest of the PC portables (Steam Deck, MSI Claw, Lenovo Legion, Asus Ally etc)
All in all, we're clearly a transitional period right now - towards what, remains to be seen.
Xbox just took Sony and SGF to school on how a game showcase must be !
I'm not exactly an Xbox fan, but the best way to describe it would be "Damn, now THAT's what we want!"
Oh, Sony... get back to the lab and overhaul your entire current approach to presentations and marketing 'cause Xbox made you look like an inexperienced newcomer... And take Geoff with you, hopefully he'll pick up a few pointers too.
This should have been done ages ago, but many were more interested in keeping the console wars alive than considering making games available to a lot more people regardless of platform.
Not that this move isn't done for the money, first and foremost, at least from Sony's POV.
But it's also turning things in a better direction: bringing more and more people together instead of keeping them split into "war camps". Unintended consequence or not, I'm glad to see it happening.
What a... O_O
OK then, on my way to cancel the pre-order...
...
...
...
Yeah, right... it's Elden Ring man!
If anyone cares more about trophies than playing this excellent game, then it's not for them anyway.
@UltimateOtaku91 Not if you want to find and do everything in the game - which a lot of "open world" players love to do, myself included.
Also
do you think Horizon 3 will respect that format? Or be even bigger? My guess is the latter - bigger map, longer story, etc.
I gave Horizon only as an example. In my posts I'm referring to AAA titles in general, not just this IP.
"80-100h" numbers were written only to define very long games. Even a 60-70h is a very long game, not to mention giants like AC Valhalla clocking at 100 plus... This practice should stop, too much money invested, too long dev cycles... and the game could still flop if filled with meaningless content...
@get2sammyb
My meaning is: make smaller AAA games, so we can have more of them - instead of relying on more "diluted" titles like this lego game, to fill the many-year gaps between 80-100h long AAA behemoths.
Added an example to my post to make it clearer.
This lego title feels like a filler we can have in the interim before Horizon 3 arrives... and most likely it won't be the only one, since H3 will be probably released in... what 2026-2027?
Sony has been caught with it's pants way down it seems, most of it's heavy hitters still being in development for at least a few more years - and all at once.
I guess this is what it takes now to fill the gaps between major releases... wetting appetites for it's IP's with smaller less-epic entries that take a lot less to make, so that people don't start forgetting they even exist.
They should really tone down the gameplay time and map size for major epic AAA games, to what was done in 2018 and before... 20-40h AAA games instead of 100h or more... so we can have more of them.
EDIT - Example: I don't want an epic Horizon game that takes 80h-100h to finish - make it 35-40h and release it in 2-3 years instead of 5 to 10... and quality-wise make it like the first 2 games. Instead of making lego games...
Otherwise we'll arrive in a world where 10 years are filled with all that sh..tuff that was shown last night at SGF, while waiting for 1 major IP to hit the market.
And my kid will have his own kids before he even gets to try it's sequel...
The only epic(er) trailer: Black Myth Wukong
The rest... chalk full with live service crap, mmo's, japan-style games, mobile games etc.
If that's the future of gaming, I don't want any part of it.
Where are the epic reveals, the AAA giants?
Remember when God Of War was announced at E3 in 2016? When Kratos appeared on the screen everyone there lost their s...t, they were surprised, amazed, shouting and acclaiming!
What happened to that? Is there no studio / publisher left that can pull something like that with an IP anymore?
I'm curious how it'll turn out to be
But frankly I'm not a fan of franchise milking and diluting... it takes the value and excitement out of it bit by bit with each title release in such short time one after the other.
A few more of those and reactions will turn to "oh great, another Horizon game... meh"
Followed then either by a ton of years gap until an eventual reboot, or even worse, a permanent shelving of the entire thing.
Not looking forward to that for this IP...
Oh and one more thing: if you look closely at the image, there's a green receiver on the side of the building - meaning, it's out of the puzzle room that is inside the building - best indication there's gonna be secret puzzles included !

Re: Shadows of the Damned 2 Possible if PS5, PS4 Remaster Sells Well
Ah, so no sequel then...
I enjoyed a playthrough back in the day, but I wouldn't pay full price now, especially for a simple Remaster.
By the way, why not make something altogether new? Or that's deemed "too risky" by them upper stratum chickens?

But I'm not holding my breath, not with the way things are currently going for PS5...
Re: Scathing Star Wars Outlaws PS5 Previews Unfavourably Compare Gameplay to PS Vita's Uncharted: Golden Abyss
Watching the presentation last night, this Outlaws IP left me with the distinct impression that it's nothing but an
Assassin's Creed game set "in galaxy far far away"
Then the next thought was: why did I even hope this would be something completely different? To paraphrase a known quote :
"THIS IS UBISOFT!" AC is their biggest asset, of course they're gonna milk every mechanic from it that they can.
But as many will eventually do (even if they admit it or not), I'm gonna still give it a go, 'cause it looks fun-enough.
Not gonna invest the full price though, gonna take a month of ubisoft+, 'cause it's cheaper, safer, less risky. Just like the game itself.
Re: Beyond Good & Evil 2 Seemingly Vapourware After Another No-Show at Ubisoft Forward
Re: Xbox Bigwig Confirms Many More Microsoft Games Are Coming to PS5
Re: PS5 Fans Beg Sony for a More Fulfilling Livestream in the Aftermath of Xbox Show
Xbox just took Sony and SGF to school on how a game showcase must be !
Re: Even as a LEGO Game, Horizon Adventures' PS5 Visuals Are Off the Charts
@Toot1st If you have something meaningful to add, then do.
Otherwise, stop trolling
Re: Some PlayStation Fans Are Losing Their Minds Over LEGO Horizon Being on Switch
Re: Elden Ring's Massive Shadow of the Erdtree DLC Doesn't Have Any Trophies on PS5, PS4
What a... O_O
OK then, on my way to cancel the pre-order...

Yeah, right... it's Elden Ring man!
If anyone cares more about trophies than playing this excellent game, then it's not for them anyway.
Re: Even as a LEGO Game, Horizon Adventures' PS5 Visuals Are Off the Charts
@UltimateOtaku91 Not if you want to find and do everything in the game - which a lot of "open world" players love to do, myself included.

Re: Even as a LEGO Game, Horizon Adventures' PS5 Visuals Are Off the Charts
@get2sammyb
Re: Even as a LEGO Game, Horizon Adventures' PS5 Visuals Are Off the Charts
Re: Poll: Was Summer Game Fest 2024 Great or a Letdown?
The only epic(er) trailer: Black Myth Wukong
The rest... chalk full with live service crap, mmo's, japan-style games, mobile games etc.
If that's the future of gaming, I don't want any part of it.
Where are the epic reveals, the AAA giants?
Remember when God Of War was announced at E3 in 2016? When Kratos appeared on the screen everyone there lost their s...t, they were surprised, amazed, shouting and acclaiming!
What happened to that? Is there no studio / publisher left that can pull something like that with an IP anymore?
Re: Rumour: LEGO Horizon Adventures Is a PS5, PC Game from Day One, Reveal at Summer Game Fest Tomorrow
Re: The Talos Principle 2 DLC Seemingly Ready for Imminent Reveal
Oh and one more thing: if you look closely at the image, there's a green receiver on the side of the building - meaning, it's out of the puzzle room that is inside the building - best indication there's gonna be secret puzzles included !
Re: Preview: Elden Ring Promises a DLC Masterclass in Shadow of the Erdtree
Finished up my second Elden Ring playthrough just a few months back - me good and ready, bring it on!
