The $10 upgrade fee also doesn’t help - especially with the PC version being considerably newer than the PS4 release.
Feels more like the IP that this game has very obviously borrowing from is getting an official blessing from Konami!
LOL!
It's a great game - I absolutely love it. I was just shocked how much it seemed to get away with without catching some kind of flak from Konami.
The whole game felt like an original idea for the Castlevania IP but got rejected so the developers changed a few sprites and character names to be...not quite Castlevania related.
I am just glad they were able to get the "real deal" into the game. It's a brilliant title!
I mean...any game is a gamble. It's not that the game was a technical mess or completely unpolished. I mean, even PushSquare gave it a good score. It just failed to attract players.
It seems like the developer had the talent to create a technically competent product.
I feel the onus is on Sony for certain business decisions made that lead to the failure.
The whole thing feels like "development via boardroom" and the developer got thrown under the bus for decisions outside the developer's control.
Not making free-to-play out of the gate feels like a Sony decision to get cash up front as well as a way to try to boost PS+ numbers (since it would be required to play it by not being free to play).
PC gamers sure as heck didn't get onboard and online play is free for them.
It all feels like firing the deckhands for running aground despite the fact the captain was steering the ship.
Heck, people even said before the game released why they had no interest in the title and Sony refused to try to change course.
Now, in Sony's defense, it may have been beyond the point of no return by then, but there was still warning that the game might not hit the target prior to release.
Perhaps I would keep the doors open and turn it into a support studio or something to help reduce inflating development times.
I just feel like the developer wasn't given a fair shake.
@wildcat_kickz @Northern_munkey It's not me making these claims.
I am simply interpreting the possible grounds for why the CWA is making this claim.
There is plenty of evidence to support the contrary. Evidence that will more than likely shut this whole thing down.
However, if the CWA has strong evidence to support their claim that its more nefarious than what the PR lets on, then I think it should absolutely be brought to the forefront.
@wildcat_kickz I am sure Naughty Dog spent a considerable amount of time and money on Factions 2 only to turn around and cancel it because the studio didn't want to turn the studio into a GaaS studio and, yet, their doors are still open.
@Titntin I provided possibilities of their angle. Whether it holds weight is not for any of us to decide.
It wasn't completely without rational thought.
My guess is that their angle is that Sony dangled a multi-platform carrot and then took it away when things didn't go Sony's way and therefore eliminating platform choice (and jobs) and somehow forcing people back to Sony's platform - thereby increasing its market share in the console space by continuing to force people into it.
Sony has plenty of evidence to the contrary as Nixxes is still operating and doing a great job with PC ports (other than a weird control bug in the map screen in Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, the game has been solid for me on PC). Also, Sony will have its first Switch game ever with LEGO Horizon. Plus, MLB The Show was forced to go multi-platform.
Not necessarily. Microsoft was sued by gamers after the ABK merger. It was settled out of court.
While it was seemingly non-sensical, perhaps they would have provided a better argument about the ABK merger than the FTC came up with.
But I am sure the "settlement" was simply that Microsoft wouldn't bury the gamers in millions of dollars in legal fees if they dropped the case.
Yes, right now it sounds dumb. Even I don't understand how closing a studio increases monopoly. But I welcome the challenge to Sony - even if it's a losing situation for the challenger.
My point wasn't to defend CWA. It's a criticism that any time Sony is challenged, people here dismiss it immediately, but will actively support challenging the competition.
Sony needs to be challenged from every angle. Just like Microsoft needs to be challenged. Just like Nintendo needs to be challenged.
We have no idea what supporting evidence there is to point to a monopoly by studio closure.
I guess because those were studios working outside of PlayStation platform but then were closed - which means that consumers on other platforms are now forced to get PlayStations for Sony games?? Who knows?
Why it matters now when Sony's entire business model has been like that (as has Nintendo's - and as has Microsoft's until recently) is anyone's guess.
Maybe because Sony opened the door and then closed it immediately after it didn't "win" due to competition?? Again, I don't know.
It's probably total nonsense. But, I support its right to challenge! Maybe there is something there we don't see that can get presented in court that points to wrong-doing.
Maybe they are seeing how Apple has been getting challenged (and losing) and is being forced out of its exclusivity so they are going after Sony since Microsoft is pulling down its wall. Maybe Nintendo will be next.
PC players don't like what Sony is doing with PC releases and are focal about it, they are called whiners and say Sony should just ignore PC.
CWA challenges Sony and you all dismiss it and call it a non-argument.
It's okay when Microsoft gets challenged, but not Sony.
And yes, Microsoft got heavily challenged for the ABK acquisition, the fact that it became more about what's best for Sony and Call of Duty rather than providing how it might actually hurt consumers paved the way for Microsoft winning against the FTC.
Perhaps if the FTC didn't look like it was siding with a single company, things might have been different.
The CMA actually did something positive and forced Microsoft to make changes.
Eventually, this whole "walled garden" approach will go away. I am sure even Nintendo will one day have to put its games on other platforms. It's just a matter of time.
It's already happening in the mobile space with Apple. It will come to consoles, too!
Even if this ends up getting thrown out for lack of evidence or because it's a non-issue, there is nothing wrong with challenging Sony on it. And any company should be challenged!
@DennisReynolds I was here to say something similar.
It’s fine if Sony wants to make a live service game as long as it’s a live service game that has Sony’s special sauce - not some carbon copy of another successful formula - people already have that.
I bet Factions 2 would have been a huge hit as it sounded like something that was actually different!
If ND didn’t want to turn its studio into a live service factory, Sony could have handed off the development labor to another studio with a small team at ND being used for decison making.
@get2sammyb @Shinnok789 Native 4K is such a waste of resources with AI-based reconstruction available - even people with the most powerful hardware still use reconstruction to 4K because the performance gains for the perceived exact same visual result makes native resolution pointless.
What good is having choice when PSSR gets to the point where reconstructed 4K looks identical to native 4K?
Not saying Sony can do much about it this generation since only the Pro has PSSR and games still need to target the base PS5. But on a PS6, there is zero reason for developers have a native 4K 30/reconstructed 4K 60 choice as they can simply target 60 using the highest graphical settings possible for the hardware and then use PSSR to reach that 4K image.
@Mikey856 I hope by 4K, you mean "4K" that comes from PSSR as the base PS5 can't even run 4K at 30fp.
I am not knocking upscaling, by the way, just making sure your expectations are in check.
I do wonder how prevalent 120 mode will be on PS5 Pro.
My guess it won't be used for that and will mostly just provide better image quality at 60fps. Perhaps some current 120 titles will get PSSR support, but I don't see a 120 Modes exclusive to PS5 Pro being a thing.
@sanderson72 @Darkashura Probably a two-fold thing.
1) It brings it in line with the experience when playing on an Xbox Series X (which doesn't have a "native" version but is enhanced via the more robust backwards compatibility capabilities)
I swear you PlayStation fans want nothing more than for everyone to simply play on PlayStation the way you all complain about how other people prefer to play their games.
Neither one is wrong.
PC people are well aware that consoles are cheaper and considerably more convenient.
Some people choose PC because maybe they are just simply tired of being locked into a single console ecosystem and letting that single ecosystem dictate everything that comes with it. Perhaps they are tired of paying for online multiplayer. Perhaps they just simply want better control of their gaming experience at the cost of convenience. Perhaps they want the high-end experience for the cost. There can be a million reasons why people are choosing to switch.
I am just happy the game is doing very well across the board. It honestly shouldn't matter where the most was sold as long as it sold well!
@Rich33 PSSR is sounding like it will be a fantastic upgrade over FSR and other software-based upscaling methods. So perhaps you will be pleasantly surprised - judging from the word of mouth, it really is helping those games with poor image quality in those 60fps modes.
Feel free to ask me any questions, I'd be happy to answer (you can find my various account IDs in my profile) - especially since I am a freshly renewed back into the PC arena.
I can provide the good, the bad, and anything in between regarding my transition from console-only since 2012 back to being a PC-person.
@Rich33 The TV is in a shared space. I wanted my computer in my own space - plus a bulky desktop box with RGB would ruin the aesthetic in the living room (for those in the house who care about that sort of thing).
I love it.
The power over consoles (for now) is certainly welcome, but my main goal was just to get away from consoles all together. So even if this desktop is equivalent to next-gen consoles, it just means I will get plenty of years out it.
I don't care about 4K/Ultra/240fps/etc. 1440p/60+ is perfectly fine.
I feel like DLSS/Frame Gen/Reflex combo will really extend the life of PCs.
My monitor is a 27" LG Nano 165Hz. It has HDR up to 400nits (okay, not the brightest, but there is more to HDR than brightness). It uses Nvidia G-Sync (and AMD FreeSync). It was also like $200 off the price when I got it - which was the main reason I got it because it took it to like $150.
While I will say most modern games don't come close to that 165fps, I also don't strive to get my framerate high either. PS4 era and below can get that high and it's very nice. While I can't see the difference above 60fps, I can certainly feel it in the games being like...insanely responsive.
God of War (2018) runs at like 140fps at 1440p and Max Settings (with DLSS Enabled). I play with a Gamepad wired via USB. I swear there is like 0 input latency. It's nuts!
I think Days Gone gets in the 160s for framerate.
Alien Isolation runs at like 500+ fps.
I really only turn on FPS Monitors to ensure the game is running above 60fps. At that point, I don't care and I turn them off.
I like that Nvidia has a "Fast" Vsync option you can enable at the Global level. It lets the game run as fast as it can run, but there is no Screen Tearing, either. Plus you get all the response benefits of super high framerate.
@Rich33 Just plug it in via HDMI. Nvidia does pass audio - called Nvidia HD Audio.
It supports all the major codecs: Dolby TrueHD, Atmos, DTS-HD MA, DTS:X, etc.
Windows should detect 120Hz, VRR, and HDR (including Dolby Vision if supported).
You MAY need to go to the Windows Display settings to verify HDR and VRR are enabled, but that’s about the only setup you would need to do.
You would also need to install the Dolby App to get Atmos (and potentially Dolby Vision); but even the Xbox Series X requires the Dolby App to enable Atmos.
@Medic_alert Hi - one of those people who pulled the trigger on a PC because I don't like where the premium console market is heading here. I am coming off of a 12 year hiatus from PC in favor of consoles.
Yes, after getting the prebuild with a monitor, I paid about $2K after taxes. It was the best money I have ever spent.
Yes, I could have saved money building my own...I tried but had problems with the case's circuit board that powered the case fans and simply preferred to use a local Best Buy instead as it would be less of a headache if there was a problem.
Installing a modern game and running it has never been easier. Heck, I'd argue it takes less wait time downloading a PC game than inserting a disc into the PS5 and waiting for it to install. Not exactly sure where this "PC is so much more time consuming" argument comes from. Perhaps 25 years ago, I would argue, yes.
Today?
Most games auto detect hardware settings or are at least console quality (if not more) by default. Plus, if you want a little more help, the Nvidia App lets you Optimize Game settings for your hardware (assuming you go with an Nvidia GPU). It's literally a click of a button.
Sure, if you want to sit there and inch out every fps you possibly can, I could see where one would be testing out settings.
With DLSS and Frame Gen, it's pretty rare to be below 75fps for most games (I have a 4070 Super, 32GB RAM, and an AMD 7800X3D) at Max Settings and using real-time RT. Input latency thanks to Nvidia Reflex (using a Gamepad) isn't a problem either.
If you don't care about real-time RT, then I'd say a mid-range PC will get you incredible far and could pretty much run whatever at Max Rasterized Settings without even needing DLSS and still be well above 60fps...probably more in the 100fps+ range for most games.
Now, if you want to get into more retro games...sometimes those can be an issue. GOG and Steam do a pretty good job ensuring most older games run on modern systems, but sometimes you will need to turn to the community for help. Many times, though, the solution can be found in the related games message boards with instructions.
I am pretty confident, though, that if you only want to game as far back as PS4-era, an upper mid-range PC will require very little time to get games running - and will probably carry you into next generation as well.
Not approving the game is censorship in my eyes. Even if whatever that thing is perceived as insensitive, banning it outright doesn't give the individual to decide what is right for them.
Maybe it does take an "American savior" approach. Maybe it doesn't. Quite honestly, it doesn't matter. You are taking choice away from people.
Maybe a Kuwait-based game developer can make a game that tells a different side of the conflict - even if it's overblown for the sake of entertainment. It won't be banned in the United States or any of the other free countries that took part in it. It would probably be praised for taking a different approach.
People should be allowed to express their side. People should also be allowed to agree and disagree. No governing body should be able to ban expressing a viewpoint...well...unless it's illegal - but laws should also be allowed to be challenged, too! But I guess that's a whole different topic for an entirely different kind of site.
@nessisonett Let's also appreciate that Tears of the Kingdom was done on a system with 3 accessible CPU cores clocked at..what..1Ghz per core!? And only 3.5GB of useable RAM.
You can traverse to 3 different planes of the world map without every seeing a Loading Screen (except for going into the Shrines). Heck, even going into buildings doesn't have a load screen.
Then you look at something like Starfield that has a load screen just about everywhere - and that's on hardware that is exponentially more powerful!
Sure, Tears of the Kingdom has some concessions that needed to be made: it's only 30fps, the "world state" is reset after traveling only a very short distance, and technically using the Towers to propel to sky/Falling down a hole to the underworld is masking loading, etc; but the level of interactivity and fluidity of exploration is simply insane for the hardware.
Nintendo engineers are going to have an absolute field day with something close to a PS4 because rather than seeing new hardware as a means to overcome challenges of previous generations, they see new hardware as a more powerful sandbox to play with.
Other than occasional stutter (which made me give it a 9 rather than a 10), the game is fantastic.
I find it much more intense than the original game, too.
Plus, yesterday, the RT reflections in the game actually saved my butt because an enemy I didn't see due to having the camera turned reflected in the window - scared the crap out of me, but also allowed me to dodge it!
Microsoft is doing whatever it’s doing and Sony will be going unchecked and will probably bend its customers way over a barrel because it can.
It’s already 3x faster than the PS5 in raw specs alone (not even considering the AI capabilities of an Nvidia 40 series) and will probably still be slightly more powerful than any next-gen console (but at least on-par with them).
The premium console market just sounds like it’s going to be a nightmare next gen. I’d rather just be out of it!
@J2theEzzo Like when Nintendo refused to use DVD for Gamecube because it saw load times increasing and the optical discs it used were meant to have cartridge-like performance - something that took…what…3 more generations to come back?

Re: Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Web Swings to PC in January 2025
Re: Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Web Swings to PC in January 2025
@Xbox_Dashboard I believe Stellar Blade is already announced to be “coming to PC”, but doesn’t have a definitive release window.
FF7 Rebirth is merely a matter of time.
Astro Bot is a consideration - heck there was an article about it around the games release that Sony would consider a PC port.
You’re probably right that TLOU 2 will release along side Season 2 of the show.
Demon’s Souls and Rise of the Ronin seems to be the only PS5 games that will stick around to the platform.
Re: Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Web Swings to PC in January 2025
Re: Repeatedly Delayed, Anticipated Horror Game Phasmophobia Finally Gets a PS5 Release Date
I wonder if games like these are 100% crossplay now or if some games are still locked behind "an ecosystem".
Like, ever since Sony lifted its whole ban on cross-play, does every multiplayer title now support it?
Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Blocked in Kuwait, Activision Refunds Preorders
I hate censorship of any kind.
Re: Expedition 33 Dev Confirms $50 Price Is Correct, '30+ Hours of Main Game'
I hope this game is great and sells a lot to show the "big dogs" that you can create something great without raking consumers over the coals.
Re: Remedy Reveals Co-Op Control Game FBC: Firebreak, on PS Plus Extra from Day One
Wow! Game Pass Day 1 and PS Plus Day 1.
Bold move.
Perhaps Remedy is hoping for that "Rocket League" type success.
Re: Silent Hill 2 Dev Bloober Team Is Back with Cronos: The New Dawn on PS5
This looked absolutely twisted!
Bloober Team has been busy and I am all for it.

Re: Ex-PlayStation Exec Shawn Layden Says There's Been a 'Collapse' in Gaming Creativity
On the whole, I'd say I agree.
There are some exceptions in the AAA space, but most of the creativity you will find is in the AA/Indie space.
Trying to copy what others have doing, is one of the biggest problems, though. Concord is the best example of what not to do!
If your focus is to copy Fortnite because it was a huge financial success, you're already doomed for failure.
Re: Random: Blizzard's Overwatch Marketing Is Firmly Focused on Feet
Whatever floats your boat…I guess.
Re: Space Marine 2 Rallies 4.5 Million Players, Content Updates Inbound
To some publishers, 4.5 million doesn’t meet sales expectations.
Glad this one is celebrating the success of the game. I dabbled in the original game, but it didn’t click with me.
Re: Don't Nod Financials Result in Reorganisation and Layoffs, Cancelled Projects
" With this layoff plan, they are creating an atmosphere of extreme violence."
Uhm...violence? Really?! Layoffs suck, but I wouldn't exactly call for violence over it.
Bad enough you get laid off, don't add "arrested" to it!
Re: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Showcases the Problem with Sony's Games on PS5 Pro

Thank goodness for Duckstation. 🤐
Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Silent Hill 2?
Other than occasional stutter (which made me give it a 9 rather than a 10), the game is fantastic.
I find it much more intense than the original game, too.
Plus, yesterday, the RT reflections in the game actually saved my butt because an enemy I didn't see due to having the camera turned reflected in the window - scared the crap out of me, but also allowed me to dodge it!
+1 for realism!
Re: PS5 May Soon Be Unchallenged by Xbox in Some Regions
This is exactly why I got myself a PC this year.
Re: Acclaimed PS5 Platformer Astro Bot Really Couldn't Be Selling Any Better
Glad to hear this is doing well! It’s so well-deserved and truly just pure gaming joy.
This is coming from a self-proclaimed Rational Nintendo fanboy.
Re: Sunderfolk Is Bringing Tabletop-Inspired Co-Op Adventuring to Your PS5 Next Year
@J2theEzzo Like when Nintendo refused to use DVD for Gamecube because it saw load times increasing and the optical discs it used were meant to have cartridge-like performance - something that took…what…3 more generations to come back?
Re: Sunderfolk Is Bringing Tabletop-Inspired Co-Op Adventuring to Your PS5 Next Year
@J2theEzzo It’s almost as is if the Wii U was actually a great idea!
