I am always suspicious when a company that is struggling with profitability can suddenly turn it around in under a year. It's good for Sony that they are profitable but I do wonder how this was achieved? And Sony has taken big losses like with Concord this year but profits are up?
The problem is they want to patient a general concept rather then a particular idea. You can patient a name like Pokemon or Palworld, but you can't just patient the concept of Pokemon, original called pocket monsters. Various phones developers sue and are sued because someone creates a phone that uses a particular patient they have for a very specific item. And even then sometimes times the patient is ruled valid and sometimes they are ruled invalid.
I don't have any idea what the Zero Dawn remaster looks like, but from other games that have gotten remasters they usually get minor improvements in some graphics but often look near identical to the original. From what I saw of one of the Horizon videos there was improvements in the features of her face, but a marked decrease in the visual effects for her hair. For example Tales of Symphonia can only do 720p on the ps3 but the remastered version on the ps4 and x1 jump to 1080p, which looks much better.
The easiest way is to use the ps+ to upload your games then download them to your new console. Yes you do have to pay for any ps+ sub, but by far its the simplest method, used this when I upgraded my ps4 hard drive.
Well even though I don't personally have a ps5 I think offering ps5 games with essential is a good move by Sony. I think Sony should always offer at least one ps5 only game to help push the ps5. Hot Wheels is fun, for about a hour, then it gets boring very quickly. Death note might be interesting. Tried Ghostwire both on the X1X and the series S. Ghostwire struggles with cloud gaming on the X1X but runs well on the series S.
Actually it's the worst time to get a new console. Nintendo will likely launch a console in 2025 and both Sony and Microsoft will release new consoles in a two or three years so it almost better to wait until the next generation arrives. Even with the minor improvements for the ps5 pro, most gamers are better off waiting for the ps6.
I did see a store that was still selling the ps now cards which would of given me lots of ps premium time, but unfortunately the cards couldn't be sold so I couldn't but the cards.
I have tried the ps+ and occasionally taken advantage of the upgrades to check out premium and found that premium and extra really are not worth it for what you actually get. Then only real advantage is that you only get stars points when you have an active ps+ membership. Then again I did buy 3 years of Xbox gold, wait a few days then took advantage of the offer to upgrade to ultimate my paying 1 month, which means I got 2 years of ultimate. Unfortunately MS nerfed this so you can only stack 13 months of membership at a time, down from the previous 3 years.
Not happy with the stars program generally. You do get points, but only if you have a active ps+ membership. You will get points for all digital purchases ps3 and ps4 games, but it's almost impossible to earn starts. There was a $5 psn card previously available now it only a $15 psn card. I have about 1000 points and could of redeemed for a $5 card with a few more purchases now it's going to take longer. I also don't like that the points expire after so long.
I've been waiting since Hogwards Legacy launched for it to drop to a reasonable since and just bought the deluxe edition for around $25. I got both versions and the extra content so it's a great deal.
@PuppetMaster True, Sony has not officially said they are disappointed in the sales, but I think they had bigger expectations and hoped Spider Man 2 would sell more ps5 consoles. Financial reports often go out of the way to paint a rose picture, the real story is often in the actual numbers. Usually if planned DLC is cancelled it because the game didn't get the sales they were hoping for. And getting 11 million is good, but perhaps Sony was looking for at least 20 million to create the DLC.
My guess is that Spider Man 2 didn't meet Sony's sales expectations so they didn't move ahead with the planned DLC. Sony did comment that they were not happy with Spider Man 2 sales, but they didn't say anything else. I also think that lots of Playstation users haven't upgraded to the ps5 which is limiting sales.
My take is Sony has been very successful in selling the ps5 that their is very few people who want the ps5 that don't already own a ps5. The ps5 is number one but, sales are stagnant with Sony struggling to sell new consoles.
@Throb Unfortunately no. The games autolock each month, don't remember the date, but so long as you have an active ps+ membership and they are still on the service they unlock. Essential games don't autolock and are active until you membership expires.
@Ainu20 What I mean is there is a shift in the games from what was available on the ps3 and previous consoles compared to what available for the ps4 and now the ps5. Like for the ps2 there was 4 Ratchet games, for the ps3 it had 4 along with the 4 ps2 games. Then the ps4 has 1, and ps5 has 1, and the older titles are now available with emulation rather then a remaster. Yes the ps5 has lots of titles but lots of the titles are also available for the ps4, so they are not new games. Even God of War is considerably different from the ps2 and ps3 titles. The original God of War were brutal action top down games, the ps4 and ps5 games are a more generic open world type game, I personally like the older titles over the new ones.
It means exactly what MS said. Saudi Arabia isn't going to be getting anymore Xbox consoles right now or in the immediate future. MS will likely support all existing users but they won't ship anymore consoles to the area. My guess is MS is running low on available consoles so they choose an area to drop new consoles delivery to.
Unfortunately this happens all the time. Sometimes developers will leave up a old version online, but once they want to release a updated version the older versions often get delisted. Then sometimes a developer releases a complete edition with the dlc and the original base version is delisted.
In my opinion Sony has been very successful with the Playstation since the original ps1 launched. But with the launch of TLOU 2 Sony has made mistake after mistake doing little to improve the Playstation experience.
To me this sounds like the ps3 all over again. The ps3 had hardware emulation in the 20 and 60 models with software emulation in the 80, might have the models wrong. But adding the ps2 hardware both expensive and problematic which limited ps3 sales. Perhaps I'm wrong but I am not sure Sony is focusing on the most important thing, games. Without games that show off what the hardware can do, few people are going to rush to get a ps6. Right now I think about half of the people on psn are still using the ps4 or lower.
Most PC's bought from any retailer come with Windows preinstalled. The ps4 has a wide library of games but no backwards compatibility with older Playstation consoles. The ps5 is a powerful console but the biggest issue is that there are minimal ps5 exclusive games. And a good chunk of the titles are remastered ps4 versions or games that are available for both ps5 and ps4. Astrobot isn't going to instantly boost sales. If Sony had 5-6 games like Astrobot that would make a difference. Live service games ONLY work if they have a solid core game.
A year ago someone had a video comparing the Series S, Series X ps5 and PC running Star Wars Jedi Survivor. They all looked reasonably close with a slight dip for the Series S.
I figure when it is available in Canada it will sell for at least $950, adjusted for the exchange rate, but sometimes they add more so the ps5 pro could easily launch for $1000 - $1100 in Canada.
@Ainu20 It more their has been a shift after the launch of the ps4. For the ps1 to ps3 they have had original IP's yet after the ps4 all the older original Sony games are of little consequence. The only one that made the cut for the ps4 was God of War. Their were 3 Ratchet and Clank games for the ps2 and they were remastered for the ps3 and they had another 3 for the ps3. Their were the Jax games, and other they don't want to do much with. Their was Dark Could 1 and 2, launched for the ps2 and got ps3 and ps4 remasters. Even games that were previously exclusive on the ps3 and ps4 are getting multi consoles releases. I don't consider a remastered game to be a "new game". Basically Sony has I would estimate 30-40 IP titles for the Playstation from the ps1 - ps3 that they just sit on and occasionally create remasters.
Sony has a huge backlog of games with lots of IP's that are recognizable which can easily be used. But with the launch of the ps5 Sony only seems to want to focus on new IP.
Ebay basically encourages sellers to overprice their games, to a degree. Most listings on Ebay anymore are buy now pricing which allows sellers to set what ever price they want. And Ebay collects their fees after the items sell with only a small listing fee. Since all sellers want to not be out of pocket for selling items most sellers will drastically overprice their items and don't have any issues with items just sitting there unsold until they get the highest price they can. This is why I don't consider Ebay a good source for prices. The real pricing is how much games actually end up selling for, not how much they are listed at.
They do have lots of games, unfortunately they are all terrible games. Like a good chunk of the games are c64, vic20 and amiga games, and most of the games are once you likely don't want to play. Dollar stores have retro consoles filled with preloaded retro games, likely a much better deal.
My opinion is that consoles are bigger than ever, it's just nobody is really making killer must have games. What is holding back the gaming market is the high prices for games and consoles. Previous generations of consoles got price drops at different times, now consoles are selling at the same as launch prices, perhaps a bit higher or lower but in the same range as the launch prices. And the price of new games kept rising so everyone is looking for deals.
I'll downloaded them to add to my ps+ collection. The sports titles that essential gets are always out of season which limits their value in my eyes. Sometimes the indie titles that are offered are not bad, sometimes they are missable. Then usually there is a bigger title and the Harry Potter is not bad, but I suspect it's get boring quick. But I will be able to see if the new Potter game is actually worth anything, at least to me.
My attitude is live service games are high risk, high reward. Their is always a big reward if the game is highly successful but they are expensive to create and have little chance of success. With the existing live service games like COD, Fornite, Destiny 2, Overwatch 2 and so on, new games really need to stand out to have any chance of success. And all live servers games need lots of media promotion to even get noticed.
@QiaraIris I started with Tales of Legendia, then played Tales of the Abyss. Legendia wasn't supposed to be a good Tales of game but I enjoyed it and got intrigued by the series.
Very few games are worth full price. The most I ever spent on any games are the Zelda games when they get a rare in store limited price reduction. I don't usually want to spend more then $20-$30 on games and I am perfectly happy waiting a year or so until it hits that price. My prediction is that GTA VI will launch at $200 for the base game and the top edition will be available at between $400 - $500.
What I believe Sony likes to do is to sign a deal for a timed exclusive, then they make a deal to somehow own the copyright to the game. Sony got the copyright to Demon Souls, even though they didn't develop the game. Namco Bandi when on to create the multi platform Dark Souls which is the same basic idea. Likely the same thing happened with FF 7 remake with it being a timed exclusive, then Sony made a copyright deal. Admittedly I am guessing about FF7, but Sony does own the copyright to Demon Souls.
There is always a good chance that you can possibly get a good bug which helps you in your progress or gives you a boost in some way. I remember running AC Valhalla on my X1, the game worked fine, but immediately after running the game I was unable to run anymore games period. Ubisofts answer was, there is absolutely nothing wrong with are game, you just need to clear your system cache to fix the problem that was caused by are game making it unable to run any other games or apps. I simply rebooted the console and didn't both with clearing the system cache which seemed unnecessary. I've been less than impressed with Ubisoft ever since.
My opinion is that the ps5 pro is a prototype for the ps6. Releasing a ps5 pro at such a late point is likely little more then a prototype for the ps6. The rumoured 4k switch basically became the switch 2, for lack of a better name. And there is the possibility that the rumoured ps5 pro will never get released.
Origins and Odyssey were just the right length, and the side story were relevant to the main quest. Valhalla looks great but right off the bat I was bored out my mind listening to "I'm having these dreams". I lost interest and stopped playing. I don't care if they make any more AC games, after Origins and Odyssey this is the canonical end of the series, at least for me.
Well reviews have been available largely after the launch of the X1 on the Xbox consoles. What I like about Xbox reviews is you have to own the game or be able to access it through game pass to be able to write a review. If you just own the disc you can't write a review, which is reasonable. What I find is the reviews are genuine since you can write a review of a game you don't own/rent. But I think Sony has delayed too long for it to have a big impact and likely it will be ps5 or better to write a review, just guessing.
No ps5 but I've played FF7 remake on my ps4. Well I've enjoyed the game, to a degree I found the amount of work to get the Platinum excessive. First their is the mini games which have trophies attached, the outfit quest trophies, all of which take way too long. Finishing the chapters on hard is not impossible but the lack of items and no way to recover mana is the real challenge from hard difficulty. Then it looks like FF7 rebirth added even more pointless quests which all need to be completed to get various trophies. I spent way too much time trying to get the darts trophy which is 10% skill 90% luck.
Their are two issues. Sony doesn't want to lose money selling the ps5 so they will keep it as high as possible as long as possible. I think that despite the ps5 claiming the top spot the new console sales are stagnant. The other issue is Sony keeping expecting to sell more consoles even if they don't produce many new games. It seems Sony wants to focus on live service games, which can be hit or miss. For every COD, Destiny 2 and Fornite their are 10-20 Babylon Fall. Godfall was a disaster on the Playstation but it has seemed to do well on the Xbox.
This is what I personally find so frustrating about ps+ is that they insist on sending a email for the ps+ rentals(that is exactly what they are). Small tip for anyone checking out the games in the classic catalog, buy them rather then claim them with premium. Sony just added ps4 versions of classic Star Wars games and they can be bought for $7-$13 CND. You will be forced to go through the dialogue which tries to get you to just claim them with premium, but just say no and outright buy the games.
@PuppetMaster I doubt MS is going to lie in court filings without some even weak proof. I would say their is enough hearsay to say that there are reasons why FF7 will not appear on the Xbox. From playing FF7 remake on the ps4 I don't see anything that could've been done on the X1, even the VCR model.
@PuppetMaster Never read or knew their was a Washington Post article. When SE announced FF7 Sony claimed at exclusive to Playstation, SE immediately said it was a timed exclusive. In court filings with the FTC MS stated on the record that FF7 was permanently on Playstation and couldn't get a Xbox version. Sony also said that FF7 remake after it was released would only be on the Playstation. After the release of FF7 rebirth, Sony also claimed it secured permanent right to a Playstation only release. And you are right that it was marked as a timed exclusive and 3 years later no Xbox version. I thought it would get released for the series Xbox but still no release. It a big mystery why.
@PuppetMaster I don't have any "proof" about FF7, exactly. SE said FF7 exclusive for 1 year, Sony immediately said it's permanently permanently exclusive to the Playstation. MS in their court filing said FF7 cannot get released on the Xbox. With the second FF7 game released Sony said " It permanently exclusive to Playstation" I don't know any of the story behind it, but I do think Sony would continue doing this as much as they could. I am just speculating but I am guessing Sony wanted to do permanent exclusive deals like they did with SE, so that prompted MS to outright buy Bethesda.
@PuppetMaster Both Sony and MS did exclusive deal before Jim Ryan took over. Jim Ryan when out of the way to get a permanent exclusive deal with SE to only put FF 7 remake only on the Playstation. Their was some other game that is permanently exclusive to Playstation, don't remember the name. They also got a limited exclusive for Ghostwire and Deathloop. Likely if MS didn't purchase Bethesda Sony would of tried to get the games permanently exclusive to the Playstation. Almost nobody knows how Sony got the permanent exclusives, my best guess is they bought the rights to the game, as a licence holder.
@PuppetMaster True, but the SE games later got a ps4 release, except Infinite Undiscovery which is still exclusive to the x360 and x1 w/bc. The Ninja games were exclusive to the x360 but got a ps4/x1 remaster. Tales of V and Sonota both had a later ps3 release and Tales of V got a ps4/x1 remaster. Mass Effect released first on the x360 and later got a ps3 version. So even with the deals MS made to get the games on the Xbox they later appeared on the Playstation.

Likely the same thing happened with FF 7 remake with it being a timed exclusive, then Sony made a copyright deal. Admittedly I am guessing about FF7, but Sony does own the copyright to Demon Souls.
Re: PS5 Fans Who Paid $110 for Star Wars Outlaws Early Access Asked to Restart Saves
Re: Rumour: PS5 Pro Was Allegedly Being Talked About Openly at Gamescom
My opinion is that the ps5 pro is a prototype for the ps6. Releasing a ps5 pro at such a late point is likely little more then a prototype for the ps6. The rumoured 4k switch basically became the switch 2, for lack of a better name. And there is the possibility that the rumoured ps5 pro will never get released.
Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Extra, Premium Games for August 2024?
Good game but, I have several of them already so it's pointless. Not bothering to renew my subscription when it expires.
Re: Ubisoft Suggests More Development Time Required for Future Assassin's Creed Games
Re: Unsurprisingly, the Borderlands Movie Has Completely Bombed
I must have DVD bargain bin is what the Borderlands movies looks like at least in my opinion.
Re: Sony Appears to Be Dabbling with Written User Reviews on the PS Store
Well reviews have been available largely after the launch of the X1 on the Xbox consoles. What I like about Xbox reviews is you have to own the game or be able to access it through game pass to be able to write a review. If you just own the disc you can't write a review, which is reasonable. What I find is the reviews are genuine since you can write a review of a game you don't own/rent. But I think Sony has delayed too long for it to have a big impact and likely it will be ps5 or better to write a review, just guessing.
Re: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth PS5 Sales Still a Secret as Square Enix Reports Year-on-Year Decline
Re: Reaction: PS5 Needs a Price Cut
Their are two issues. Sony doesn't want to lose money selling the ps5 so they will keep it as high as possible as long as possible. I think that despite the ps5 claiming the top spot the new console sales are stagnant. The other issue is Sony keeping expecting to sell more consoles even if they don't produce many new games. It seems Sony wants to focus on live service games, which can be hit or miss. For every COD, Destiny 2 and Fornite their are 10-20 Babylon Fall. Godfall was a disaster on the Playstation but it has seemed to do well on the Xbox.
Re: Oh No, PS Plus Email Spam Has Suddenly Returned
This is what I personally find so frustrating about ps+ is that they insist on sending a email for the ps+ rentals(that is exactly what they are). Small tip for anyone checking out the games in the classic catalog, buy them rather then claim them with premium. Sony just added ps4 versions of classic Star Wars games and they can be bought for $7-$13 CND. You will be forced to go through the dialogue which tries to get you to just claim them with premium, but just say no and outright buy the games.
Re: Bungie Accused of Overselling Itself to Sony, Promising Success It Couldn't Deliver
Re: Bungie Accused of Overselling Itself to Sony, Promising Success It Couldn't Deliver
Re: Bungie Accused of Overselling Itself to Sony, Promising Success It Couldn't Deliver
Re: Bungie Accused of Overselling Itself to Sony, Promising Success It Couldn't Deliver
Re: Bungie Accused of Overselling Itself to Sony, Promising Success It Couldn't Deliver
