Re: PS5's Ghost of Yotei Triggers Social Media, Ex-Sony Exec Says 'If You Don't Like It, Don't Buy It'

Sequel

Despite it being a great game, my biggest disappointment with Dishonored 2 was it reused the same protagonists as the first game and it ended up retreading old ground a bit (yes I know they introduced the playable female also). Choosing a different time, place, and people can be creatively invigorating. You unchain from expectations and can often do more. I even sensed from interviews Arkane wanted to do a different setting and character (very rich world and lore) but felt the game would be more commercially successful if they kept the recognizable characters for fans. Well it never sold anyway. Sucker Punch proved themselves with the first game so should be trusted to do what they want with the second, this nonsense stifles creatively and feels like fans who can't let go of what they're comfortable with.

Re: PS5's Astro Bot the USA's Second Best-Selling Game in Its First Week

Sequel

Not too shabby, seems to be holding it's own. I do think this one will have a long tail as families eventually get around to picking this up for Christmas, plus word of it's quality slowly spreads over time. We're coming to the end of it here, bittersweet: glad we got it at all, but also a bit sad as you never know when (if?) anything like this will come out again.

Re: Sony: It's Massively Important PS Studios Develops Games in Various Genres

Sequel

@LowDefAl I'm not going to pretend to know the ins and outs of everyone's roles, I'm just a punter. But the live service push I thought was not a studio decision but a business one and would fall under Ryan's remit and oversight, I imagine Hulst then would facilitate that within the studios. Not really huslts push. Open to be corrected if wrong

@NomNom Denouncing is a bit strong but I take your point. Ryan saw a lucrative market and wanted a piece. Fair play, he tried his hand. My criticism would be that so many resources were diverted. Asobi (as remnants of a now defunct Japan Studio) had to push for this game, they originally thought they were going to be R&D and had some success with tech demos, then offered themselves up to do the ps5 playroom demo. They knocked it out of the park so hard, and the gameplay and character was so loved they got the full game. I do feel this wasn't something PS was jumping at unlike the multi billion dollar brute force and acquisition battles for live service. They weren't aggressively looking for this but it happened organically - despite the new direction- not because of it.
