Re: Poll: Are You Sick of Soulslike Games?

Sequel

@Perturbator I'll never forget my first playthrough of Demon Souls on PS3, fell head over heels. Never could have dreamed we'd see 15 years more of these games with them finding mainstream success and birthing a genre. I knew they were amazing, but thought they'd be too obtuse. We've been spoilt. Long may it continue.

Re: Ubisoft Responds to Assassin's Creed Shadows Criticism, Apologises to Japanese Players

Sequel

I was fairly ambivalent as usual over this latest uproar, but once I read about what was going on with Thomas Lockley at Nihon university it was quite scandalous. Japanese have every right to be upset as this was more than just taking artistic liberties, there was an underhand attempt to rewrite the actual history and then cast aspersions on critics. Looks much more like a large corporation and self serving author trying to cover up for bad PR and making things much worse. Looks like he's been fired now, but it's quite a bizarre story if true.

Re: George R.R. Martin Appears to Tease Elden Ring Adaptation for Film, TV

Sequel

Am I wrong to be a little nervous? What if it all becomes so big FromSoft just become an Elden Ring machine and that's it? By that I mean it doesn't make financial sense to do much else, no bloodbornes, sekiros, armored cores..? Probably overthinking it. I'm happy for their mainstream success, they deserve it.. even if I'm still surprised by it.

Re: Poll: Can a Game's Brutal Difficultly Put You Off Playing It?

Sequel

Absolutely love them.. if they're well designed. Without strategy, puzzles, technique, or mechanical challenge I feel I may as well read a book or watch a show. Mechanical challenge particularly is an artform in itself. Sekiro is an absolute masterpiece in this regard, pushing you beyond what you thought your hands were capable of. Secret about souls games (maybe sekiro aside) is they're not actually that hard. They just require patience, resilience, and learning enemies. If you repeat battles enough you can chop down enemies you previously found impossible without thinking. You just have to keep at it and you will improve. I can play dark souls now with my eyes closed, it becomes instinct.

Re: FromSoftware Boss Puts Elden Ring Difficulty Discourse to Bed, Once and For All

Sequel

I stink at roguelikes, but I wouldn't change them. The design & difficultly is what makes them, it's what gives the highs to the lows. When I beat into the breach o danced. Same with souls games, they force you to step up to the challenge and the high of accomplishment is I only for those that persevere. Sekiro nearly broke me. Almost gave up twice.. but when it clicked and I beat that first boss I was euphoric. Please never go soft on us From.
