Only really looking at Dragon Age and Star Wars Outlaws.
Astrobot looks OK but the free tech demo thing with the Tub o' Lard didn't interest me much.
Still think it's myopic to not release Lego Horizon on the PS4 - can't imagine it's pushing the hardware that much if the Switch can run it?
Got 'Among Us' for about £4 - barely played it.
American ice hockey? No thanks.
Might download 'Borderlands 3'. Think I played the original many, many years ago? Clearly didn't make an impression.
@__jamiie I've just got a 1TB external drive plugged in which has PS4 games on.
What I can't fathom is the amount of space that the PS5 uses for 'Other' (for 'system data so games can run correctly', etc. apparently) which is currently chewing up 23.03GB but apparently this can change depending on what the console is doing? I'm assuming that this is Windows-esque swap space (for Unix, obviously)?
Was one of the reasons I got a PS5 but Dragon's Dogma 2 has been a let down due to its sub-PS4 graphics, lurching controls and constantly shouting NPCs and pawns. I doubt some extra PS5 performance will fix that.
Only hope it's better than Dragon' Dogma 2 - that's been a let down due to its sub-PS4 graphics, lurching controls and constantly shouting NPCs and pawns.
@Tarquin Trouble is that the Everybody's Golf and Motorstorm online servers are dead.
Motorstorm Pacific Rift at least has split screen offline but Everybody's Golf feels like a wasteland these days with no-one else visible on the greens.
@nomither6 @astro911 Eventually got my white DriftSense (love it!) back from Sony repairs a week or so ago. Barely used in a year and when we tried using both controllers, that one just pulled to the left constantly!
Posted it with about 3 days of warranty remaining and Sony's repair tracker is just as broken as the controller innards!
First it said 'hand it in at the post office' status, then updated to say 'on its way to us' status, then reverted back to 'hand it in at the post office' and no sign of where it was. Eventually, I got an email saying it was on it's way back on the same day it a full replacement was returned!
Must be a lot of busted DS5s for them to fix...
@Anti-Matter You're right on the game prices. My lad wanted to continue his F1 games collection on the PS3 and he picked up F1 2010 for £1 from our local CEX!
I do wonder if it might be because the games aren't useable on the PS4 & PS5 but they are very cheap these days?
Hope my Slim keeps going for many more years (and the 3 official DS3s) as there's so much good stuff trapped on there, and being the 2500 series, it's very quiet and so is the disc drive.
@trev666 That's true as none of the Motorstorm games were released digitally.
Not tried it recently but I think the bizarre thing is, if you have Driveclub on disc, you could download patches and extra DLC content (if you had already purchased it) even though it's been de-listed!
Still got a 2503 Slim PS3 after the fatty popped its clogs. Still playing Worms 2: Armageddon and Motorstorm: Pacific Rift on the old, old stager.
To me, emulation would be nice (if the PS5 can hack it?) but we need some of those PS3 IPs being brought up to date:
1, Motorstorm (unlikely due to Evolution being no more - thanks Sony)
2. ModNation Racers (unlikely due to United Front being no more though San Diego, who helped with the original & Road Trip, could step in) and of course
3. LBP 1 & 2 (MM still exist but the servers for all LBP versions don't exist any more - just after MM uploaded all their textures and objects - again, thanks Sony)
I remember buying Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance on release day from Game - I then had to go back and buy a PS2 Memory Card as I didn't have enough storage space on my other two!
Bought my PS3 fatty (R.I.P.) from Game too just after Sony announced that they were finishing off the 60Gb units and only making the 40Gb ones. Stock had completely sold out within a week! That said, PS4 original from Argos, PS4 Pro from Shop To & PS5 from Currys.
Game's used selection was dwindling anyway and CEX is just so much better.
Could be of interest as ESO seems broken at the moment. Going into the Crown Crates screen causes the game to lock up and eventually the PS4 crashes out to the dashboard.
@kailun Unfortunately the PS5 doesn't have enough grunt to natively emulate the PS3's Cell so unless the PS6 gets a serious power jump, you'd be better off finding a decent condition used PS3 and a load of (cheap in CEX, these days) discs!
Some Vita games could come across though some will be stuck due to the rear touchpad not being supported.
Wish Sony would introduce an 'online play only' option tier to PS+ for about £3 a month and then those of us who won't miss these games can use online and not be bothered with anything else (apart from PS5 save backups?)
@belmont It makes no sense - you can't take your Switch game over to the PS5 but you would be able to take it from the PS4, or just enjoy it on your PS4. Sony losing sales for what?
That said, he, Andrew House or Jack Tretton would've been a much better CEO than Jim 'Accountant' Ryan. At least Shawn used to speak to gamers. He obviously saw what was (or more accurately wasn't) coming with the PS5 so maybe we'll see him again in a couple of years?
@get2sammyb Japan Studio, Evolution, Studio Liverpool - those are the closures that still sting AND the ramifications are STILL being felt due to a short-sighted Sony, some over 10 years later.
@DennisReynolds To be honest, I don't think it would be a high cost (probably just put the same source code through the compiler with the PS4 options set) This is Sony marketing not believing in generations...
Given the target audience, cutting out the PS4 does seem somewhat silly because it wouldn't have problem running it if the inferior Switch hardware can.
Does seem somewhat strange - halve your chances of selling on the PS platforms by cutting off the PS4 (which I believe is still in production?) when you have a game capable of running on the Switch?
@Nem Wasn't Solas the Dreadwolf? Been a long time since I played Inquisition - then again it was close to launch for the PS4, I think, as it was on the PS3 too.
Personally, I think they could've called it "Dragon Age: Veilguard" (dropping the 'The') and it would sound better.
Given the existence of The Touryst, it isn't false advertising to say the PS5 supports 8k - because it does for that one Switch title.
However, 8K seems to be an answer to a question no-one asked when circa 4K is all you can get out of streaming services (Netflix, Disney+, Prime, etc.) and standard broadcast is good, old 1080i/p
@CaptD You'd be better off getting down to your local CEX and pick up a PS3 Slim with a 2 year warranty on it and pick up a handful of cheap game discs while you're there.
PS3 emulation isn't going to arrive anytime soon due to the innovative Cell & its SPUs vs ancient push/pop x86 architectures.
Look at the PC specs required to really get any kind of grunt into RPCS3 and we're looking at PS6 at the earliest.
@nomither6 Yeah, still wish Sony would allow the use of the DualShock4 to play PS5 games. It has exactly the same buttons and at least the DS4 lasts longer than a Fruit Pastille. Sony say it's so "you get the best PS5 experience" - while your character walks left automatically to their instant demise...
@xDD90x Thanks for the response - I assumed it was a PS4-optimised 'shell' (for want of a better word) running the PS2 data.
PS4 and the Fat One can't even read some PS2 discs anyway so I guessed it wasn't a play anything emulator.
@ProfessorNiggle I agree - I think Vita emulation would've happened by now if it was going to. Other problem with the Vita is that back touchpad - wasn't used that much but as the DS4 and DS5 controllers only have one trackpad, some games would be difficult to emulate.
@get2sammyb So, I'm a little confused (nothing new there!)
When you say "emulator", are you meaning that there's a new firmware update inbound for the PS4/PS5 which has this new emulator in it or is it somehow included in the game that hosts the PS2 data?
@nomither6 Not even a year old (and with only 'very light' usage) and my white DualSense is on its way back to Sony due to going left all the time. On the other hand, my PS3 Slim and its 3 official DS3s are all working perfectly. Never had stick drift on any other DualShock but the DualSense seems to come with it built in.
The 'plot' of season 3 was a nonsensical mess so unless they've hired someone talented to continue the story then it's on a hiding to nothing. To be fair, Liam doesn't look too bad in this one scene but we'll need to see if he brings the presence (and the voice) to Geralt like Henry did. I'm much more likely to tune in to Henry's Warhammer 40K series on Prime.

@GymratAmarillo @Malaise Yep, Circuit Superstars is definitely worth a look - sort of a modern day Super Skidmarks (without the cow)
Even has an official Stig time trial of the Top Gear circuit.

Re: Talking Point: What's Your Most Anticipated PS5 Game for the Second Half of 2024?
@Member_the_game Saw a trailer for Sociable Soccer only the other week, and when it went into bird's eye, top down view....!
Nothing can do quarter pixel scrolling at speed like the Amiga but this looks to be the next best thing!
