Atlus was definitely a great pickup for Sega. It really feels like ever since picking up Atlus, Sega in general has just really come into their own. Metaphor is just the latest in what has been quite a few years of great games from Sega.
I know in the end it doesn't really matter but I'd love to see Metaphor take home GOTY at the game awards. Katsura Hashino and the team at Studio Zero should be really proud of what they put together.
It makes a lot of sense why but I don't want to see it happen. There's been enough consolidation in the industry.
I'm only in support of things like this if the company being acquired is in deep financial trouble. I can't imagine Kadokowa is in a situation like that but maybe I'm wrong.
Say what you will about the 1st party output from Playstation but the publishing arm has certainly been doing their job this gen. Stellar Blade is my runner-up GOTY only behind Metaphor.They got a good eye for talent over there.
It's Playstation proper that's been a bit all over the place but even then they did put out the excellent Astro Bot. So while it's easy to poke fun at Concord it's not like the year was a total wreck by any means.
@MeanBeanEgg Agreed. Sega has easily been my favorite publisher of for a while now. Pretty much since 2017 with Persona 5. RGG is cooking. Atlus is cooking. Sonic is cooking. They are reviving other old classics like Shinobi and Virtua Fighter...
My biggest problem with this is it just takes away a chance for an actual NEW game to be nominated. I always thought the point of these award shows was to celebrate games released in that particular year.
Elden Ring is great. It won GOTY. It already got its flowers then. Shadow of the Erdtree is just more of that same game. Still great but still Elden Ring.
Make a "Best DLC" category if you must but this just has no place in GOTY 2024 talks. Period.
Edit: But then I remember this is the award show that nominated Sifu (no shade, great game) for best fighting game so why should we be surprised? 😂
Unless it's outrageously overpriced I'll pick up the costumes. And even if they are overpriced I won't be mad. Plenty of awesome costumes to use it if the box in the game already.
Yeah no this isn't right. Elden Ring is great but it already got its flowers before. Make a best DLC category if you must but there is no reason Shadow of the Erdtree should be eligible.
I also don't think remakes and remasters should be eligible either since they are based on something that has come before at the end of the day, no matter how different they are.
Oh well. In the end it's up to the show makers what's what. I'm still looking forward to the show.
I'm really enjoying Black Ops 6 a lot but yeah these skins are pretty atrocious. A toggle would definitely be much appreciated.
It still kind of blows my mind how one of the original goals of COD was to create a realistic representation of WWII. I'd love to show my young self playing COD2 on 360 what the character models will look like in future COD games. 😂
I still can't believe how awful a state this trilogy launched in originally. I don't know who's more to blame between R* or GSG. What I do know is everyone involved really dropped the ball with this thing.
Regardless though, at least it sounds like it's actually in a good state now.
It's my runner-up GOTY only behind Metaphor. It delivered on damn near every front for me. Just a really great game. Considering it's Shift-Up's first console title too they should be very proud of how it turned out.
@Medic_alert Yeah your not wrong about why Microsoft did it but what about Nintendo? If it costs so much money to do it then why does Nintendo bother?
I mean have you seen some of the random stuff they got on their Classic catalog emulators? Like the there is some stuff that I would be willing to bet barely anyone has even heard of. Not a chance there is any real money to be made by including them on there and yet they put them up on the service anyway.
I know PS3 has the whole cell processor issue and I'm not going to act like I'm very knowledgeable on the subject of emulating but I can't believe that Sony just can't figure out some sort of way to get it working that doesn't cost a fortune.
I just want to play some freaking Infamous 2 without busting out the ol' PS3 dang it! 😄
@UltimateOtaku91 @Medic_alert But you see here's the thing. Not everyone is demanding a new one of those necessarily. (Even though it would be great to see but that's beside the point here)
Some of us just want access to these PS3 games in ANY capacity. It doesn't have to be a remaster or a remake. Just make them available to play on modern hardware. I don't think that's asking too much.
Both Microsoft and even Nintendo (granted they still have some console generations to do still) have native options to play at least a very large portion of their old catalog. Why is it such an unreasonable ask of Sony to figure out a way to do the same?
I'd have to see what is first. I'm not interested in a Monster Hunter-like Horizon. I'm honestly not really sure what I'd want from an online Horizon game. I'll be there for the proper Horizon 3 though.
@Flaming_Kaiser
I was more just commenting on people being like "Is this guy clueless? How does he not know how it failed?" rather than if he liked it or not. I'm just saying the dude obviously isn't going to throw more shade at Concord considering he worked on this collaboration with Playstation/Firewalk.
For the record I actually liked certain parts of Concord myself. The no respawn modes in particular were where the game shined for me. However, even then I had a feeling the game was not going to make it very long. (Though I did expect it to last longer than a couple of weeks.😅)
No level select is an odd oversight. Hasn't that been a thing in almost every Lego game? Granted it's been a long time since I played one but I could have sworn it was there back in the original Lego Star Wars games.

He's just trying to be nice. It's not like Concord has had a lack of criticism thrown at it anyway. We all know why it failed.
@Flaming_Kaiser I actually love the AC games myself but I get why they don't appeal to everyone. And I definitely don't want every game I play to be as big as an AC game. That's why I think it's best if the industry has a healthy mix of shorter and longer experiences. Variety is key.
One thing to keep in mind is this games development has been rebooted not one but twice. That means the development budget was probably pretty bloated.
That and Bioware has lost a lot of trust over the years for some folks.
All this to is to say EA would be wise to not expect colossal profit from this one. They need to have realistic expectations.
I see no reason both can't coexist. I fine with shorter games but I also like a good long epic adventure. Stellar Blade and Astro Bot were both great shorter games but I also love Metaphor as well which is much longer.
It just depends on the what the developers are going for.
I think a nice compromise would be to not require it for any single player games at least. If it's an online focused game then I'd say it's a fair play since...well servers but there isn't any real reason for a single player game to require it.
The Fast 9 guy? That's...concerning. I love Mass Effect so I'll give it a shot but the only Fast & Furious movie I like was the original. The series just got too goofy for me to take it seriously.
That's too bad. I actually like MultiVersus. It's a solid game and I actually prefer It's gameplay to Smash personally. The problem is just competition for time really. While I like it I wouldn't play it over SF6 if I had to choose so it always gets placed on the side.
I might hop in to check out Raven though. That's a cool addition.
I'm sorry but no way. I ain't plopping down $700 for the same console I got but just a little better. If I'm dropping that kind of cash it needs to be an actual generational leap, not a mid-gen refresh. It's as simple as that.
An interesting surprise. I didn't like DS much myself. Just found it incredibly boring personally but good for anyone curious enough to try it on Xbox.
VF5 Final Showdown was the game I met most of my current PSN friends on back on PS3 so we are all obviously very excited about the prospect of a new one. Looking forward to seeing it fully revealed!
@Medic_alert Yeah I was really tempted when that sale happened. The only thing is the Quest has other games if be interested in like the Batman game so if I was to get one it would probably be the Quest since Metro is also going to be on there.
I loved the first one so I'll be there day one for the sequel assuming WB doesn't live service it. To their credit they showed surprising restraint with the Quiddich game so here's hoping Legacy 2 turns out great!
Some of the best stuff from the modern day story has unfortunately been hidden away in comic books. It's unfortunate because characters like Daniel Cross were really cool but unfortunately just never got the chance to shine much in the games.
I also hope they don't abandon Basim. I was really curious to see where his character would go after Valhalla.
Nevertheless I enjoy the modern storyline myself. Hopefully this"new direction is the right one.
@CielloArc What are you talking about? She has been shown off to be a main protagonist in literally all of the promotional material. Heck she is the actual "Assassin" style character in the game! She is on the front cover and is posing in front of Yasuke!
I expected a ninja style looking character in an Assassin's Creed set in Japan and welp that's Naoe!
@CielloArc
But what expectations were betrayed? Was it the use of a historical figure like Yasuke? That doesn't make sense because AC has always played fast and loose with historical figures. This is not the first time and likely won't be the last time.
Was it that people expected to play as a Japanese character? Well...you can. Her name is Naoe. She plays like a more traditional AC protagonist. No one has to play as Yasuke outside of at most a couple missions.
And people honestly expect them to just say "Sorry this game is not what you expected so just ignore this one and we will make one exactly like what you personally want later."!? (even though that also makes no sense since no one knows if the game will live up to expectations yet. The game isn't even out yet!)
That's...insane. They have put over 4 years of development into Shadows. A lot is riding on this game being a success. No company would tell customers to ignore a project especially this big. Especially since AC is very popular with the casual market too. Plenty of folks are interested in the game that probably haven't even heard of any of the controversy. This just makes no sense!
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare On that I definitely agree with you. Ubisoft should really just stop bringing it up. I don't know if I'd go as far as saying they gas-lit anyone but they should just stop poking the bear. What's done is done. They aren't going to change anyone's mind at this point.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare I mean the likely reason they picked Yasuke is because of creative reasons. There isn't very much historical documentation on the actual person...which opens him up to be interpreted in any way they see fit because like I said, it's historical fiction. We don't know yet because no one has played the game yet. Plus this isn't the first time Yasuke has been portrayed as a samurai and yet for whatever reason AC Shadows has been bombarded with "Not historically accurate!"
And I don't know what else to tell you about Naoe being a Japanese protagonist you can play as. People just weirdly and conveniently hand-wave it off like it's not important and well, I just frankly don't get it. If you want to play as a Japanese protagonist in Japan, I mean there it is! Enjoy!
Look feel however you want about it man. I don't really care. I just want to play the game. That's all. The entire Yasuke discourse has been dragged along for so long that I mostly just try to ignore it at this point.
I hear him. It's been just awful the way this game has been targeted by the culture warriors. It sucks for the devs and it has sucked for the fans too. The actual game itself is almost never actually discussed online. Instead it always just defaults to "Why do I gotta play as Yasuke!? That's not historically accurate!"...even though there is another protagonist you can play as in the game and the series as a whole has never been 100% historically accurate. It called Historical Fiction. It's a genre.
It's been tough to watch as a fan so I can only imagine how tough it's been to watch as a developer. All I can say is hang in there! There are plenty of people out there excited to play the game.
That sure does say something about just how hungry people are for anything Bloodborne related.
I mean these people got their shiny, new, expensive hardware and what's the first thing they do with it? Fire up Bloodborne again knowing full well there was no way it wasn't going to make much difference at all and yet did so anyway just to confirm their suspicions.
I can see how that could be a bit of a technical nightmare. Perhaps the solution would be to kinda do what Konami did with Metal Gear and just make them all seperate applications? That way they don't technically have to be under one application like Mass Effect was.
It looks great. Metro is such a great series and I can absolutely see it being really good in VR. I sadly just don't have one but if I did this would be a must play.
I really feel like a big reason COD has managed to stay relevant for all these years is because it is one of the only series out there that still offers a full shooter package. (Besides BO4) I remember the days when it was expected for a shooter to feature campaign and multiplayer modes and COD for the most part has always delivered there.
Has it been great every single year? No. However whereas other shooters have mostly chosen either only featured a campaign with no multiplayer or vice-versa, I appreciate COD always making the effort to provide both.
Hate it all you want but I always feel like I got my money's worth when I buy a COD. Hopefully other shooters take notes sooner or later that having value out of the gate is important.
@Yagami Yeah the melee combat definitely felt kind of like an afterthought.
That is one area the sequel improved on though to be fair so maybe you might click with Horizon 2 a bit more. I also felt like Horizon 2 had a better variety of viable ranged weapons outside of just bows and arrows.
@Yagami Well it is a pretty big open world and ranged bow combat is kinda the bread and butter of the combat system so I'm not confident this is the game for you.
@PuppetMaster True but it just seems like he worked better when he just focused on Guerilla as opposed to now where he now oversees all of PS Studios. I should have clarified but yes I know he wasn't really involved in the creative aspects of development.
@kyleforrester87 True. The speed at which things happened with Concord is insane. I also expected at least 4-6 months support but things must have just been extremely dire.
I liked Hulst when he was still working more on the development side at Guerilla but I gotta say he hasn't really clicked on the business side of things since he took over.
Some folks just aren't a good fit for jobs like this and I fear Hermen is one of them. To just look at Concord and say "Aw shucks. It didn't work. Let's try again!" is just baffling to say the least.
I'll wait until I see gameplay to fully judge if it's something I'd be interested in or not. I've not really tried an extraction shooter yet. I gotta say though, based off the description it sounds kind of...well boring. Hopefully some gameplay will change my mind.

I can see how that could be a bit of a technical nightmare. Perhaps the solution would be to kinda do what Konami did with Metal Gear and just make them all seperate applications? That way they don't technically have to be under one application like Mass Effect was.
Re: Metro Awakening Will Be a Reason to Own PSVR2 This Holiday
It looks great. Metro is such a great series and I can absolutely see it being really good in VR. I sadly just don't have one but if I did this would be a must play.
Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (PS5) - The Strongest Return to FPS Form
Re: Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered (PS5) - A Sublime Remaster of a Modern PlayStation Classic
@Yagami
Yeah the melee combat definitely felt kind of like an afterthought.
That is one area the sequel improved on though to be fair so maybe you might click with Horizon 2 a bit more. I also felt like Horizon 2 had a better variety of viable ranged weapons outside of just bows and arrows.
Re: Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered (PS5) - A Sublime Remaster of a Modern PlayStation Classic
@Yagami
Well it is a pretty big open world and ranged bow combat is kinda the bread and butter of the combat system so I'm not confident this is the game for you.
Re: After a Tough Few Months, Sony Says It'll Keep Making PS5 Live Service Games
@PuppetMaster
True but it just seems like he worked better when he just focused on Guerilla as opposed to now where he now oversees all of PS Studios. I should have clarified but yes I know he wasn't really involved in the creative aspects of development.
Re: PS5, PC Flop Concord Never Returning, Studio Closed Down
@kyleforrester87
True. The speed at which things happened with Concord is insane. I also expected at least 4-6 months support but things must have just been extremely dire.
Re: After a Tough Few Months, Sony Says It'll Keep Making PS5 Live Service Games
Re: PS5, PC Flop Concord Never Returning, Studio Closed Down
Oof. What a disaster. Can't say I'm shocked this was the outcome but still sad to see. Hopefully some lessons have been learned here.
Re: Bungie Provides Lengthy Development Update on PS5 Extraction Shooter, Marathon
I'll wait until I see gameplay to fully judge if it's something I'd be interested in or not. I've not really tried an extraction shooter yet. I gotta say though, based off the description it sounds kind of...well boring. Hopefully some gameplay will change my mind.
