Re: SEGA Heaps Praise on Atlus Following Strong Metaphor: ReFantazio Sales

Korgon

Atlus was definitely a great pickup for Sega. It really feels like ever since picking up Atlus, Sega in general has just really come into their own. Metaphor is just the latest in what has been quite a few years of great games from Sega.

I know in the end it doesn't really matter but I'd love to see Metaphor take home GOTY at the game awards. Katsura Hashino and the team at Studio Zero should be really proud of what they put together.

Re: Sony Leads Pack of Publisher's Nominated at The Game Awards

Korgon

Say what you will about the 1st party output from Playstation but the publishing arm has certainly been doing their job this gen. Stellar Blade is my runner-up GOTY only behind Metaphor.They got a good eye for talent over there.

It's Playstation proper that's been a bit all over the place but even then they did put out the excellent Astro Bot. So while it's easy to poke fun at Concord it's not like the year was a total wreck by any means.

Re: Sony Leads Pack of Publisher's Nominated at The Game Awards

Korgon

@MeanBeanEgg
Agreed. Sega has easily been my favorite publisher of for a while now. Pretty much since 2017 with Persona 5. RGG is cooking. Atlus is cooking. Sonic is cooking. They are reviving other old classics like Shinobi and Virtua Fighter...

Yup. It's a good time to be a Sega fan!

Re: The Game Awards Under Heavy Criticism for Elden Ring DLC's Game of the Year Nomination

Korgon

My biggest problem with this is it just takes away a chance for an actual NEW game to be nominated. I always thought the point of these award shows was to celebrate games released in that particular year.

Elden Ring is great. It won GOTY. It already got its flowers then. Shadow of the Erdtree is just more of that same game. Still great but still Elden Ring.

Make a "Best DLC" category if you must but this just has no place in GOTY 2024 talks. Period.

Edit: But then I remember this is the award show that nominated Sifu (no shade, great game) for best fighting game so why should we be surprised? 😂

Re: The Game Awards Confirms DLC, Remasters Can Win Game of the Year Days Prior to Nominations Reveal

Korgon

Yeah no this isn't right. Elden Ring is great but it already got its flowers before. Make a best DLC category if you must but there is no reason Shadow of the Erdtree should be eligible.

I also don't think remakes and remasters should be eligible either since they are based on something that has come before at the end of the day, no matter how different they are.

Oh well. In the end it's up to the show makers what's what. I'm still looking forward to the show.

Re: Resistance's Release on PS Plus Premium Proves There's Still a Fanbase for the FPS

Korgon

@Medic_alert
Yeah your not wrong about why Microsoft did it but what about Nintendo? If it costs so much money to do it then why does Nintendo bother?

I mean have you seen some of the random stuff they got on their Classic catalog emulators? Like the there is some stuff that I would be willing to bet barely anyone has even heard of. Not a chance there is any real money to be made by including them on there and yet they put them up on the service anyway.

I know PS3 has the whole cell processor issue and I'm not going to act like I'm very knowledgeable on the subject of emulating but I can't believe that Sony just can't figure out some sort of way to get it working that doesn't cost a fortune.

I just want to play some freaking Infamous 2 without busting out the ol' PS3 dang it! 😄

Re: Resistance's Release on PS Plus Premium Proves There's Still a Fanbase for the FPS

Korgon

@UltimateOtaku91 @Medic_alert
But you see here's the thing. Not everyone is demanding a new one of those necessarily. (Even though it would be great to see but that's beside the point here)

Some of us just want access to these PS3 games in ANY capacity. It doesn't have to be a remaster or a remake. Just make them available to play on modern hardware. I don't think that's asking too much.

Both Microsoft and even Nintendo (granted they still have some console generations to do still) have native options to play at least a very large portion of their old catalog. Why is it such an unreasonable ask of Sony to figure out a way to do the same?

Re: Secret Level Creator Comments on Concord's Awkward Anthology Inclusion

Korgon

@Flaming_Kaiser
I was more just commenting on people being like "Is this guy clueless? How does he not know how it failed?" rather than if he liked it or not. I'm just saying the dude obviously isn't going to throw more shade at Concord considering he worked on this collaboration with Playstation/Firewalk.

For the record I actually liked certain parts of Concord myself. The no respawn modes in particular were where the game shined for me. However, even then I had a feeling the game was not going to make it very long. (Though I did expect it to last longer than a couple of weeks.😅)

Re: MultiVersus Underperforms, Another $100 Million Blow for Warner Bros.

Korgon

That's too bad. I actually like MultiVersus. It's a solid game and I actually prefer It's gameplay to Smash personally. The problem is just competition for time really. While I like it I wouldn't play it over SF6 if I had to choose so it always gets placed on the side.

I might hop in to check out Raven though. That's a cool addition.

Re: Poll: Did You Buy a PS5 Pro?

Korgon

I'm sorry but no way. I ain't plopping down $700 for the same console I got but just a little better. If I'm dropping that kind of cash it needs to be an actual generational leap, not a mid-gen refresh. It's as simple as that.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Lays the Foundation for a New Modern-Day Narrative

Korgon

Some of the best stuff from the modern day story has unfortunately been hidden away in comic books. It's unfortunate because characters like Daniel Cross were really cool but unfortunately just never got the chance to shine much in the games.

I also hope they don't abandon Basim. I was really curious to see where his character would go after Valhalla.

Nevertheless I enjoy the modern storyline myself. Hopefully this"new direction is the right one.

Re: Assassin's Creed Boss Says Series Is Inherently Diverse, Just Like History

Korgon

@CielloArc
What are you talking about? She has been shown off to be a main protagonist in literally all of the promotional material. Heck she is the actual "Assassin" style character in the game! She is on the front cover and is posing in front of Yasuke!

I expected a ninja style looking character in an Assassin's Creed set in Japan and welp that's Naoe!

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here!

Re: Assassin's Creed Boss Says Series Is Inherently Diverse, Just Like History

Korgon

@CielloArc
But what expectations were betrayed? Was it the use of a historical figure like Yasuke? That doesn't make sense because AC has always played fast and loose with historical figures. This is not the first time and likely won't be the last time.

Was it that people expected to play as a Japanese character? Well...you can. Her name is Naoe. She plays like a more traditional AC protagonist. No one has to play as Yasuke outside of at most a couple missions.

And people honestly expect them to just say "Sorry this game is not what you expected so just ignore this one and we will make one exactly like what you personally want later."!? (even though that also makes no sense since no one knows if the game will live up to expectations yet. The game isn't even out yet!)

That's...insane. They have put over 4 years of development into Shadows. A lot is riding on this game being a success. No company would tell customers to ignore a project especially this big. Especially since AC is very popular with the casual market too. Plenty of folks are interested in the game that probably haven't even heard of any of the controversy. This just makes no sense!

Re: Assassin's Creed Boss Says Series Is Inherently Diverse, Just Like History

Korgon

@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare
I mean the likely reason they picked Yasuke is because of creative reasons. There isn't very much historical documentation on the actual person...which opens him up to be interpreted in any way they see fit because like I said, it's historical fiction. We don't know yet because no one has played the game yet. Plus this isn't the first time Yasuke has been portrayed as a samurai and yet for whatever reason AC Shadows has been bombarded with "Not historically accurate!"

And I don't know what else to tell you about Naoe being a Japanese protagonist you can play as. People just weirdly and conveniently hand-wave it off like it's not important and well, I just frankly don't get it. If you want to play as a Japanese protagonist in Japan, I mean there it is! Enjoy!

Look feel however you want about it man. I don't really care. I just want to play the game. That's all. The entire Yasuke discourse has been dragged along for so long that I mostly just try to ignore it at this point.

Re: Assassin's Creed Boss Says Series Is Inherently Diverse, Just Like History

Korgon

I hear him. It's been just awful the way this game has been targeted by the culture warriors. It sucks for the devs and it has sucked for the fans too. The actual game itself is almost never actually discussed online. Instead it always just defaults to "Why do I gotta play as Yasuke!? That's not historically accurate!"...even though there is another protagonist you can play as in the game and the series as a whole has never been 100% historically accurate. It called Historical Fiction. It's a genre.

It's been tough to watch as a fan so I can only imagine how tough it's been to watch as a developer. All I can say is hang in there! There are plenty of people out there excited to play the game.

Re: Bloodborne PS5 Pro Comparison Appears As Consumers Receive Console Early

Korgon

That sure does say something about just how hungry people are for anything Bloodborne related.

I mean these people got their shiny, new, expensive hardware and what's the first thing they do with it? Fire up Bloodborne again knowing full well there was no way it wasn't going to make much difference at all and yet did so anyway just to confirm their suspicions.

Just a funny observation is all.

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (PS5) - The Strongest Return to FPS Form

Korgon

I really feel like a big reason COD has managed to stay relevant for all these years is because it is one of the only series out there that still offers a full shooter package. (Besides BO4) I remember the days when it was expected for a shooter to feature campaign and multiplayer modes and COD for the most part has always delivered there.

Has it been great every single year? No. However whereas other shooters have mostly chosen either only featured a campaign with no multiplayer or vice-versa, I appreciate COD always making the effort to provide both.

Hate it all you want but I always feel like I got my money's worth when I buy a COD. Hopefully other shooters take notes sooner or later that having value out of the gate is important.

Re: After a Tough Few Months, Sony Says It'll Keep Making PS5 Live Service Games

Korgon

I liked Hulst when he was still working more on the development side at Guerilla but I gotta say he hasn't really clicked on the business side of things since he took over.

Some folks just aren't a good fit for jobs like this and I fear Hermen is one of them. To just look at Concord and say "Aw shucks. It didn't work. Let's try again!" is just baffling to say the least.
