Re: Sony Boss Says 'PCs Are Difficult to Set Up', Firm Will Focus on PS5

Korgon

I'm always going to primarily be a console player. I don't mind PC gaming. I do so when it's the most convenient way of playing something I want to play. (Trails in the Sky 3 and Halo Infinite recently)

It isn't my preferred method of gaming though. I have always preferred the more straightforward approach of console gaming. Plus, while it is true the PS5 Pro is a bit too expensive, you are borderline delusional if you think your going to find a PC that plays games that well for only $700.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Astro Bot?

Korgon

It's been a long time since a 3D platformer really just blew me away. The last time was probably Mario Galaxy 1 back on the Wii. Astro Bot got there and honestly maybe even surpasses it!

The easiest 10 I've given since Persona 5 Royal. Team Asobi absolutely nailed it from top to bottom. Truly a GOAT here.

Re: State of Play Rumoured for This Month As Sony Looks Set to Skip PS Showcase in 2024

Korgon

I've actually been pretty happy with more than a few SOP's this generation. It has been pretty dry from the first party for a while now though. Thankfully we did just get Astro Bot which turned out to be an absolute GOAT so at least there's that.

Would just like a little more communication. Like Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch. Where are you guys? I'm ready for whatever you guys got cooking!

Re: Japan Sales Charts: Astro Bot Barely Registers at Retail, PS5 Numbers Plummet After Price Hike

Korgon

@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare
Perhaps you may have taken my comment a bit too seriously. 😅

Everyone has their own financial situation and view of value. You can feel that it is priced wrong and whatnot just like I can feel like it's some of the best value available on the system. Neither is a wrong way to feel about it.

However if someone (not saying this is you personally, just a general statement) has been begging Sony to make more games like this...well you need to support it. Vote with your wallet as they say.

Re: Poll: Would You Buy PS5 Pro If It Was Cheaper?

Korgon

If it turned out in a similar way the PS4 Pro was and they just decided to sell it at $500 after dropping the original model down to $400 I might have at least been tempted. (I know that never would've happened.)

At $700 though (technically $800 or so since I'd have liked to get the disc drive and stand with it) there's just no chance I'm paying that for something that's just a little better than what I already got.

Re: Poll: Are You Sold on PS5 Pro?

Korgon

I've been mostly very happy with how games have ran and looked on the current model so I just don't see any reason to buy it. The $700 price tag just makes it easier to resist. I'll wait for the PS6 for a hardware upgrade.

Re: Ubisoft Investor Calls for Company to Go Private, and CEO Yves Guillemot to Be Replaced

Korgon

@BusyOlf
I'm not saying they are perfect by any means. They have certainly made some mistakes over the years just like the vast majority of the industry. I just don't get the absolute hatred many people have for them. People act like they never do anything right even though they just released a great Prince of Persia title this year and like I said AC Mirage last year.

Like I said I don't get it so I honestly just stopped trying to.🤷‍♂️

Re: Ubisoft Investor Calls for Company to Go Private, and CEO Yves Guillemot to Be Replaced

Korgon

I don't get the hate Ubisoft gets honestly but I will say the company is a bit unwieldy at this point. Obviously no one wants lay-offs...but in their case it might be for the best as their current head count is just too much to be sustainable.

I really hope they figure it out. I've played many Ubisoft titles over the years that I've loved. AC Mirage was absolutely fantastic last year. Shadows looks fantastic too. I haven't started Outlaws yet but I plan to as soon as I finish Trails through Daybreak.

Re: Soapbox: Astro's Playroom PS5 Did Live Service and You Didn't Even Notice

Korgon

@get2sammyb
Oh I don't disagree. I'm not one of the "Live Service=Instant bad" folks. I play SF6 on the regular and would definitely consider that a live service game because it's meant to be supported for years to come.

However, it's still a bit of a stretch to call Astro Bot a live service game though. By this logic Sonic Frontiers, Stellar Blade, Bloodborne, etcetera are all live service games and I just can't agree with that. Is Uncharted Drakes Fortune a live service? It got a trophy update but of course no one would call that a live service.

Astro's Playroom just simply got a few nice free updates. It isn't meant to be supported for years to come and so I personally at least would not call it a live service.

Re: Soapbox: Astro Bot PS5 Is Not a Graveyard, It's a Joyful Demonstration of Sony's Unique Ability to Reinvent Itself

Korgon

@breakneck

I don't think it's a fair comparison to make though considering Horizon came out much further into the console generation. More consoles out in the wild at the time equals more potential customers. If we had a Killzone launch during the middle/end of of the PS4 generation then it would make more sense but unfortunately we never got that data. Also Killzone only launched on console. If they put that game on PC I would have been willing to bet it would have tacked on many more sales.

And I do agree Concord would have stood a better chance with a campaign. However, I think a new Killzone still would have been the better/safer choice since you already have a built-in fanbase to start with. Sell to them, get a positive word of mouth going, sell potentially many more copies as more people try it out.

Like I said I can see both sides of the argument. Sometimes a franchise has just simply ran its course and needs to rest. Killzone is just one that I strongly disagree is one of them.

Re: Soapbox: Astro Bot PS5 Is Not a Graveyard, It's a Joyful Demonstration of Sony's Unique Ability to Reinvent Itself

Korgon

@breakneck
It sold over 2 million copies and has a metacritic in the 70's. For a launch PS4 title I'd say those are pretty great numbers. I can't comment on how tired or not they were of doing Killzone games but if that was the case, consider shopping it out to a new studio.

Heck Guerilla Cambridge would have been a great studio to take over if the main Guerilla studio didn't want it anymore. They did Killzone Mercenary on Vita and that was a fantastic game. Arguably one of the best in the series. Unfortunately they were shut down though after being forced to do a PSVR game. ☹️

Re: Soapbox: Astro Bot PS5 Is Not a Graveyard, It's a Joyful Demonstration of Sony's Unique Ability to Reinvent Itself

Korgon

Yeah I think the right answer really is kind of both. It's always nice to see a fresh face succeed but it isn't so black and white. There is a difference between being chained down to a franchise and running it into the ground (Guitar Hero for example) and just kind of checking back in once in a while for a new exciting entry. (GTA for example).

Time is the most valuable resource of all. If option A is taken, that means Option B is not taken unfortunately. I love Horizon. However, if I knew supporting Horizon at the time would mean the death of Killzone then I wouldn't have taken that deal. Because of that move to kill...well...Killzone, we now have no 1st party FPS to speak of on Playstation other than Concord...oh wait nevermind.

As much as it pains me to say it, I get moving on from Resistance. The 3rd game bombed and Insomniac wanted to try new things clearly anyway. It's always a good idea to keep your options open. However just throwing the past in the trash is not always the right choice.

I can see both sides for sure. I get the argument of if studio took option A then we wouldn't have gotten Option B. But I also get the argument of maybe just do Option A bit later down the line after Option B instead of leaving Option A in the dumpster. Let people miss it a bit before bringing something back.

Re: Star Wars Outlaws Director a 'Little Disappointed' with Critical Reception

Korgon

The guy was just saying he is a bit disappointed with the reception. He wasn't attacking people who dislike the game or anything. He is just saying he wishes it was received better is all yet people are getting really worked up about his comments. Take it down a notch or two.

What is it about Ubisoft in particular that just seems to draw such strong feelings from people? It's honestly a bit baffling to me. If you don't like their style then that's fine but it seems like some people just REALLY have it out for them and try to call them out on the smallest weirdest things.

Is she pretty enough? (She looks fine. Just a couple of odd facial animations here and there is all.) Why is the AI stupid? (As if Ubisoft is the only studio that has the occasional stupid AI in the industry.) Why is the protagonist black in a Japan setting? (Even though it stars a Japanese woman as well and the black character is a historical figure they are just taking some creative liberties with.)

I'm not saying it's not okay to criticize them. Ubisoft has certainly made some mistakes but it just seems like some folks absolutely despise everything about them and I honestly just don't get it. Okay I'm done ranting.

Re: Internal Sony Fairgame$ Chatter Is Reportedly Quite Positive

Korgon

I uh...I don't know about that one. Concord, for all it's faults, is more in line with what I'd personally want from Playstation as far as multiplayer shooters go. I like arena shooters. However if FairGame$ (Ugh I hate that name🤮) is like a weird Payday clone with a competitive angle... that just sounds like it's trying to be too many things at once. Plus the vibe of the game is just a complete turnoff to me based off the reveal trailer.

I don't know. I wanted to like Concord and to be fair Concord did at least have some cool ideas in it. FairGame$ on the other hand has an even more uphill battle to get my attention. Who knows maybe the gameplay will change my mind but after the Concord debacle I'm not confident.

Re: Reaction: PlayStation Needs to Take a Long, Hard Look at Itself

Korgon

I can't say I have faith FairGame$ will do any better honestly. I really think if Sony wants to get back into the shooter space they need to revive something like a Killzone or Socom.

Let's just take Killzone for example. What did Killzone have that Concord did not? A campaign for one to immerse players in the world the game is set in before jumping into multiplayer. It also provides the game with something of worth in case there isn't a huge player base for multiplayer, which is important if your asking for money up front. Concord just assumed people would care about the world and characters right off the bat and didn't bother with a single player mode. They tried to pull an Overwatch, the problem being, Overwatch was made by Blizzard. Blizzard already had a built-in loyal fanbase to start with. Concord did not.

What else did Killzone have? A cool world with a cool look to it. The Helghast look cool. Helgan was a cool setting that looked interesting compared to much of the competition. Concord has frankly unlikable characters in a world that just looks kinda bland. No one wants to spend time there because it isn't interesting.

Concord did have good gameplay... but because it lacked the above two things it didn't really matter.

I'm not saying Killzone would be a guaranteed success. Nothing is in this industry besides maybe GTA. However I can guarantee a Killzone revival would have survived longer than two friggin weeks. There isn't a doubt in my mind.

Re: Concord Devs Maintain Radio Silence, Which Isn't Helping Matters

Korgon

Yeah I get being concerned about the lack of communication but at the same time use your head. The game has flopped spectacularly unfortunately. What is there to say? I would imagine moral is at an all-time low at the studio. Give them some time to collect themselves and decide where to go from here. Wading into the waters of social media right now will only hurt morale further.

Re: Legendary Devil May Cry, Dragon's Dogma Director Hideaki Itsuno Leaves Capcom After 30 Years

Korgon

@PuppetMaster
Oh yeah no doubt Itsuno was a major reason for DMC not being discarded after DMC2. It can't be overstated how important Itsuno has been for DMC.

However, the Capcom that made DMC2 is a very different company from the Capcom of today. I'm confident that they could find new blood to take the reigns of the series and keep the quality in place.

Resident Evil is no longer run by Mikami and is still going strong. Street Fighter has changed hands a few times in its life and is still going strong. I don't see a reason why DMC can't follow suit.
