Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 115

john_c

A mixture of games on this three day bank holiday weekend.

Salt and Sanctuary, Dark Souls 3, Ratchet and Clank and some Assassin's Creed Syndicate.

Played the Nioh demo. Well I say I played it. Ending up dying twice very quickly without understanding the combat. Even Dark Souls isn't that brutal.

Re: Review: Ratchet & Clank (PS4)

I have never understood the hours thing in reviews. It has always taken me much longer than the hours given in the review to complete any game. I have no doubt it will take me much longer than twelve hours to complete this one.

Does this mean I am crap at video games or do other people take much longer than the times in the reviews?

Still looking forward to a new Ratchet and Clank game.

Re: Take Cover, Your April PlayStation Plus Games Have Been Announced

john_c

It looks like Zombi is a first-person game and I hate first-person games. The Vita games are terrible. Probably nothing for me in this months crop so I might buy either Volume or The Swindle.

On the plus side I am finally getting used to using my shield on DS2. Charging in like you can successfully do in Bloodborne gets your arse kicked in Dark Souls I have found.

Re: The First Review for Dark Souls III Is In

john_c

I am undecided on whether to buy this game. I loved Bloodborne, my introduction to this series, but haven't been enjoying DS2 as much. The combat is so much better in Bloodborne.

I have heard DS2 isn't the best example of the Souls series but it has me pondering if I will like DS3 in the way I like Bloodborne.

Re: Talking Point: What's Gone Wrong with PlayStation Plus?

john_c

The fact is that games have a lifespan as far as sales are concerned. The first week/month is very important as that is when the game should sell in its highest volume. Then the next stage is through word of mouth and then the inevitable drop in price and into the sales.

The question is after a year or even two into the games life after the release date is whether getting £5-£10 is actually better for the developer when giving as part of the PS+ is better for them especially if they have a sequel in the works.

For example Catherine got me into Atlus games. Would the publisher of Gravity Rush be better served in terms of selling GR2 with giving the game on PS+ rather than trying to flog it on PS4? I believe the sales of GR on PS4 wasn't stellar so maybe they could use GR on PS+ as a way to promote GR2.

After two years how many copies are publishers expecting to sell?

Re: Soapbox: Why Do We Treat Gaming Like a Chore?

john_c

I have never tried to get 100% in games. In games such as the Witcher and Assassin's Creed game I'll do the missions both story and side but I won't try and get all the collectables.

There is another dimension. I loved Bloodborne but have found Dark Souls 2 a chore to play. I feel I should like a Souls game as they are well made but while Bloodborne left me exhilarated there is something dead about DS2 which has me worried about DS3. How do you deal with games that feel like a chore?

Re: UK Sales Charts: Naruto Shippuden Soars as Gravity Rush Stumbles

john_c

I think a lot of people will have already bought and played it on the Vita where it belongs. It is also not a AAA game and has been advertised nor got the hype that inferior games seem to get over here.

They would rather play an average COD game than anything slightly different but each to their own.

Re: Review: Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia (PS4)

john_c

In answer to the reviewer's question then this game is probably for me. I am currently playing through and enjoying playing the China episode even though I am killing everyone like a psychopath.

There is enough puzzle-solving and tactics to make it interesting and it compares favourably to the obtuse and by definition boring gameplay of Grim Fandango.

Even without playing it I would wager it is worth more than a 5. Probably a 7.5.

Re: Time to Pick Your PlayStation Plus PS4 Freebie

john_c

All three games are ones that I'll download, play a couple of times and then forget about them until I delete them on my annual purge in January.

I don't think I'll bother voting and just see what game I forget about in March.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 103

@SonyInfinity
Compared to Bloodbourne the combat is severely lacking in the Witcher 3. But then I think that pretty much every game pales into insignificance, combat-wise, to Bloodborne, even, as I said, Dark Souls 2. That should be the industry minimum.
The Witcher 3, in its defense, doesn't have the worst combat either. But it could be better.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 103

Assassin's Creed Syndicate, Lego Star Wars and Dark Souls 2.

DS2 is laughably poor when you compare it to Bloodborne. I know you shouldn't compare games but Bloodborne was fun to play - even when it was hard and you died. I seem to either die through not being able to use my sword because there is not enough room or bad camera angles or being stuck. Hoping to enjoy this by sticking by it.

Will decide on DS3 as to whether it is like Bloodborne or DS.

Re: Sony Pledges Free PlayStation Plus Extensions After PSN Outage

john_c

Have we become so entitled these days that we go into a major meltdown because a gaming network goes down for a few hours?

When he was my age my granddad had fought in a World War, had been temporarily blinded by an enemy shell, was left with impaired hearing but he still didn't moan about unimportant things like people do today.

It went down for a few hours - it is not the end of the world.

Re: PSN Down Just Days into 2016

PSN seems to be working for me. Could access PS Store and upload my game save. Is it because I was already logged in? Is it not accepting new sign ins?

Re: Feature: 27 PS4 Exclusives to Anticipate in 2016

john_c

Persona 5 the biggest release for me. Also looking forward to Uncharted 4, Nier, Ratchet and Clank and Gravity Rush 2.

I will only believe that The Last Guardian and Persona 5 will be released when I see the discs in the shops and in my PS4. Still not confident for a 2016 release for either of them.

Re: Sony's Open to Acquiring Additional First-Party Studios

john_c

I agree with Kojima - let him make the Loud Mountains game with del Toro.

How about Sony buy the Half Life makers and keep Half-Life 3 a PS4 exclusive. That would ruffle a few feathers.

I would have also paid for Shenmue 3 and not make it a Kickstarter.

Finally Atlus as I love the Persona games.

Re: Feature: 25 Games That Will Make PS4's 2016 Insane

john_c

A lot of good games on that list - I wonder if my boss will let me have next year off and still pay me.

Although I don't believe for a moment that either Persona 5 or The Last Guardian will be out in 2016...or 2017 for that matter.

Does this mean there won't be an annual release of Assassin's Creed then?
