Re: Talking Point: What Are Your PS1 Memories?

Nightcrawler71

I was in my 20s when PS1 launched. Favourite games were Ridge Racer, the original Wipeout, Tomb Raider, and last but definitely not least…Gran Turismo. At the time the graphics were amazing, and even better were the replays. Not only that, but GT had a meaty single player campaign which in a racing game was unheard of at the time. But the thing I’m most thankful to PlayStation for, was that it made gaming cool. Before PS, gamers were always regarded as “nerds”, or “geeks”, and being a gamer wasn’t exactly a hobby we shouted from the rooftops! Slowly but surely though, PlayStation became mainstream and we were no longer embarrassed to be gamers. Thank you Sony 🙏

@Tatarimokke Yes you’ll see other players, especially in towns, but I tend to ignore them 😂 you may occasionally end up fighting the same enemy, but this is just because you both happen to be in the same place at the same time. I don’t think other players can hurt/kill you, unless you specifically enter a PvP event, which I haven’t done. I’ve heard that the campaign - which you can solo - is around 50 hours, and that’s before you get to endgame stuff, dungeons, raids etc. I would call the game a MMO ARPG, so yes would recommend it even to solo players. Also, check out a guy on YouTube called Renfail, who’s done quite a few good videos recently on Aeternum.

I’ve been playing this since last weekend and am loving it. There’s so much to do, and I barely feel like I’ve scratched the surface of the game. There are 3 graphics options, and you’re best just sticking with the default “quality” option. The 4K option isn’t smooth enough, and as you say, resolution takes a hit in performance mode. My character is a soldier, though I later swapped out his hatchet for a musket, so I now have the best of both worlds in close/ranged attacks. Yeah, the character models aren’t particularly great, but otherwise I’m really enjoying this and it definitely scratches that open world itch. Even though this is classed as an MMO you can totally play it solo, which is what I’ve been doing. My only gripe really is mounts being locked until you hit level 20, I’m currently level 17 so have to run everywhere 🙄

How is FF7 Rebirth not even in the top 10?!? My favourite - so far - is probably Astro Bot, but also enjoyed Stellar Blade and the aforementioned Rebirth. Games which I bought (damn FOMO!!) but didn’t click with were Helldivers 2, and Space Marine 2. Have only just started the prologue demo for Metaphor ReFantazio, so too early for an opinion yet.

The Last of Us Part 1. I played it when it first came out on PS4, but this is my first time playing the PS5 remake. Needless to say, the graphics are amazing.
Astro Bot. I so far have around 230 bots, so still plenty to find. I’m currently tracking down all the lost galaxy levels. Last night I unlocked the “Horzion” themed level, which I look forward to playing later today.
Diablo IV: Vessel of hatred. Hadn’t played the main game for quite a while, this was the perfect reason to jump back in!
Zelda Echoes of Wisdom Literally just started this this morning.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Star Wars Outlaws?

Nightcrawler71

I’m hovering between 8-9 after around 18 hours played. I love the balance of exploration, combat and stealth. Love all the Star Wars lore, and have just met a certain character from the movies. Music is great, as is the lighting. I like the way you unlock abilities through “the experts”. Planets/maps are a mixed bag so far. Toshara I liked, Kijimi was a bit boring. Have just arrived on Akiva, so too early to give an opinion. Haven’t been to Tatooine yet as I’m saving it - will recognise lots from the films so am looking forward to that. There’s loads to do in this game outside of the main quests and I’m in no rush to finish it 🙂

I have to face the harsh reality that it will probably be too hard for me 😂 I’m not really into “boss rush” games, which this appears to be, especially ones with no difficulty options. Shame, because the actual boss designs look amazing.

Really enjoying Deadlink. It had a bit of a slow start in regards to meta progression, but things are getting tasty now. Also playing Atlas Fallen. Don’t know what the game was like before the recent “Reign of sand” update, but I’m enjoying it. Plenty of essence stones to choose from to tailor your build, and the momentum mechanic is good. Going to try and finish it before Star Wars Outlaws comes out.

Still chipping away at the huge FF7 Rebirth, where I have just arrived at the Gold Saucer. I bought Atlas Fallen during the week, as it was on sale and had just had the Reign of Sand update. A bit worrying that I’ve already had 2 crashes where the game just froze on me. Considering the game has been out a year you’d think this sort of thing would have been fixed by now 🙄 I also bought Steamworld Heist 2, which I hope to start over the weekend.
