Re: In Case You Missed It, PS5 Pro Has a 2TB SSD Included

CrashBandicoat

I don't want a 2TB drive built in.

I have a 2TB drive in my PS5 already. I will pull it out and put it in the Pro.

Granted if you are completely new to the PS5 generation, then yeah having it already come with 2TB has it's benefits.

But for upgraders, anyone who needed more storage as they seriously want that many games installed at once on their base PS5, would have already invested in an expansion drive.

Who is buying the Pro? I bet you 90% of buyers are upgraders.

Even for a completely new buyer, having that 2TB built in is a bit sucky. When PS6 is released, I will either transfer my 2TB drive over, or if they have moved on to faster drives, I will put it in a USB housing and use it as another external drive for my PC.

If the 2TB is built in, then all that money I paid ends up worthless when the console goes to the car boot sale.

Nah I'd rather just pay a lower price for a 1TB console and sort it out myself if I want more storage.

Re: Talking Point: Is PS5 Pro Way Too Expensive?

CrashBandicoat

Do you all know what a monopoly is?

Remember when you were all cheering at the demise of the Xbox, and celebrating Microsoft giving up and releasing their exclusives on PS5?

"We won" you all said.

Well guess what, you didn't win. You lost.

As soon as that happened, Sony started jacking up prices across the board. I did warn you all that Sony are not a benevolent company and showed their colours in the past when they had market dominance.

There is no equivalent of the Xbox One X to compete with this time.

Sony can name their price and you just have to take it. Just wait for the PS6.....that one is gonna really hurt your credit card debt.

I know too well, I've been PC gaming for decades and have seen how its gone with NVIDIA. I did warn you all....

Re: Poll: Are You Sold on PS5 Pro?

CrashBandicoat

I'm going to pre-order although I expect it will be nightmare as demand will exceed supply.

That said, I'm not fully convinced.

The presentation was a bit misleading to the average punter.

Where a game currently has a 60fps mode, it will certainly enable higher visual fidelity and reduce or eliminate the sacrifice being made to achieve that performance on the regular PS5.

However most games coming out henceforth will be incapable of running at 60fps due to CPU limitations. In those scenarios the Pro might still allow improved fidelity at 30fps, with more RT etc, but frankly I can take or leave RT.

That's why I bought a better GPU for my PC, as games like Wukong prove, 60fps is pretty much over on the console side until we get the PS6 and cross gen games again.

Buying the PS5 Pro is therefore for better fidelity at 30fps moving forward, and only then on PS exclusives, as anything else will likely be bought on PC. £700 is a tough ask for that. I'm 90% going to pre-order, but could easily talk myself out of it.

Re: PS5 Pro Announced, Costs $700 and Out in November

CrashBandicoat

It will still sell out and be scalped.

People think "oh that's too expensive, no one will want it".

Guys.............£1800 RTX4090's sold out. That's just the GPU, they are spending £1000+ on the rest of the PC too.

A lot of people have a lot of money to burn. These things will go like hot cakes with people queuing up to get one.

Sorry if you aren't one of them, but it is what it is.

Re: Days Gone Director Roasts 'Small Game' Astro Bot PS5 for Deacon St John Cameo

CrashBandicoat

This guy has my sympathy.

Days Gone was my favourite PS4 exclusive. A sequel would have made a tidy profit.

So I enjoy watching the likes of Sony and WB spin on it as they lose tens or even hundreds of millions on catastrophic games that did get made.

Sony taking a big hit on Concord when they could have taken a big pay day on Days Gone 2.

Then they put the character in Astro?!

Well I guess they are the ones who should be upset! Who won from this?

Sony lost a load of money, we got garbage tier games that weren’t worth buying and were deprived of a sequel, and Bend got screwed.

Big clap for the clowns who made that decision at Sony.

Re: PS5 Pro Showcase Coming Today, Hosted by Mark Cerny

CrashBandicoat

@MaccaMUFC I hope it’s 1TB and no disc drive.

Keep the price down and let consumers choose if optional extras are worth it.

I don’t want to pay more for a 2tb console, as I will be ripping my 2tb expansion drive out of my old PS5 and plugging it in to my Pro.

Same with a disc drive. I have a Digital PS5 and don’t want to waste money on a redundant disc drive as I was forced to with my XSX.

Others already own disc drives that they bought for their slims and will just transfer them over.

Therefore we just want a bare bones Pro. We can sell our base model PS5’s and it’s a reasonable upgrade cost.

People can save up and buy larger drives at a later date.

Re: Ubisoft Investor Calls for Company to Go Private, and CEO Yves Guillemot to Be Replaced

CrashBandicoat

@StrickenBiged yeah it’s amazing how many YouTubers are still pushing that misinformation.

They rightly criticise the laughable access media sites for the lies they spread, but then stoop to the same level by repeating inaccurate information that has long since been dispelled as a misquote.

Gamers take some blame, as the quote is available in full context online if people just take the time to do their research.

Re: PS5 Pro Showcase Set for Tomorrow, Hosted by Mark Cerny

CrashBandicoat

Regardless of the talk on forums, and even regardless of the price, orders will do the talking.

This will sell out and be impossible to get your hands on for a while with people paying 30% over RRP for scalped stock.

I think there will be a lot of people with older PC’s who have money sloshing around because they want to upgrade but aren’t doing it because new 50 series cards will be out early next year.

Many will get a Pro in the interim and maybe stick with console.

Re: Guns More of a 'Fallback Solution' in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

CrashBandicoat

Indiana Jones does not easily translate to a modern game.

The movies were mostly adventure and exploration. Some fist fights, lots of chase scenes and very little shooty shooty by Indy.

A bit like Uncharted minus all the shooting gallery sections.

I’d be up for that, as those were the worst part of Uncharted. But I suspect the mass market begs to differ….

They want Rambo…

Re: Soapbox: I Spent 3 Days with the Concord Trophy Hunters Who Dedicated Their Lives to Unlocking the PS5, PC Platinum

CrashBandicoat

Whilst on the face of it they may seem like the biggest mugs and suckers in history, in reality they are playing a game for free, and will get some of the rarest trophies in existence.

Not so bad.

Some may say the cost is having to waste their time playing a bad game, but this has gone meta. They aren't playing that game. They are playing a different game - the trophy game.

Re: Catch the Full First Hour of Silent Hill 2 PS5 Gameplay Here

CrashBandicoat

For those criticising the graphics, perhaps it’s worth waiting to see how it performs?

We’ve seen a glut of games that look great, but clearly are designed for fantasy future consoles that you’d need a heavily modified DeLorean in order to go to the shops and buy one.

I’d rather a game be designed to run on the hardware of 2024 and look appropriate to that goal.

So hopefully this won’t run at 23fps.

If it does, then by all means rip it to shreds.

Re: Star Wars Outlaws Director a 'Little Disappointed' with Critical Reception

CrashBandicoat

@Supern0va yes the worlds in their games are always a pleasure to explore.

I will be slaughtered for saying this, but their environmental story telling is on a par with games like TLoU.

They don’t always miss the mark in characters and story. The Far Cry games are renowned for their antagonists and the story and characters in FC5 are particularly memorable for me.

I also think AC Odyssey and Valhalla has some absolutely amazing quests and characters.

Comparing them to Witcher 3, they didn’t have anything to rival the Baron storyline, but they did maintain a great depth of side quest and character quality despite the vast amount of material.

Quality didn’t suffer to quantity as much as you might have expected.

The original Division has to be singled out for its world too, as that is amazing to explore even to this day. In terms of depicting a fictional scenario/world, that is on a par with TLoU.

Re: Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 (PS5) - Grimdark Shooter Is an Instant Co-Op Classic

CrashBandicoat

@Steel76 or a 40fps mode for 120hz panels, even though I strongly disagree with people having to pay to correct developers problems (if you like doing that, you buy a PC).

Not sure developers who can't be bothered to put in a 40fps mode (assume that's the case?), would bother supporting Pro particularly well though...

Sounds to me like we have another catastrophic failure on a par with DD2 and Wukong.

Although I suspect it's like FF16 where in truth it was always a 30fps game, and the "performance" mode is half hearted to stop online complaints.

Re: Star Wars Outlaws, XDefiant Disappointments Pour Pain on Ubisoft's Share Prices

CrashBandicoat

@MikeOrator Why doesn't every game need to be a "precious Elden Ring"?

Certainly amongst my friends in the UK, we are in the midst of a crippling housing/rent crisis, people have far less money for discretionary spending, as essentials like rent, mortgage, power and transport consume a higher proportion of incomes.

I see the norm being people purchasing a couple of £70 games per year at most, with the rest being bought in sales or waiting and hoping they come to PS+/Gamepass.

If you are only buying one or two games a year at launch, your "precious Elden Ring's" of this world will obviously be top of the list? Right?

So if your name is Johnny Middling, you aren't going to sell many copies. You are being bought in the sale a couple of years later for £12.99.

It's not like 10 years ago, when I was picking up a new AAA game for £37.99 every month. Back then I'd give 8's and sometimes 7's out of 10 a punt if I liked the look of them.

E.g. I bought The Order 1886 at launch and didn't regret it (fond memories to this day). Even in 2019 I was happily buying Days Gone at launch, another low rated title I rave about. I quite like Asmongold, but he'd have hammered both those games and I'd still have bought them regardless of what he'd say. In the 2010's....

But in 2024? Get out of town. GOTY or go home.

FWIW I am absolutely not a Souls game fan by the way. I avoided Wukong the minute I heard the phrase "Souls" mentioned and that was before the catastrophic performance was known.

Re: PS5, PC Shooter Concord Dead on Arrival, Is Being Taken Offline This Week as Dev 'Explores Options'

CrashBandicoat

Feel sorry for the coal face developers, as this is a failure of management.

Entering into a segment that isn't as big as people think, and it is shrinking, and already dominated by Overwatch.

Bad business model.

Also you can either allow people to build their characters and role play, or you go down the "hero" road.

The key with a hero shooter, is that people actually have to be drawn to the heroes. They have to like them and be enthusiastic about playing them and acquiring cosmetics etc.

The number of people who want to play as those characters, that are either derivative or grotesque abominations, is very small...

Re: Suicide Squad Studio Hit with Layoffs After Poor Sales

CrashBandicoat

@yohn777 I think you are both right.

The Arkham titles and particularly Knight are certainly better looking than many titles on PS5, with Gotham Knights being a stark example.

However there are plenty of games on PS5 that are technically more detailed and better looking.

For me it is about the art style and its cohesiveness. If you step back and take those Arkham games at the big picture level, combining the technical and art side, then I can’t really think of any PS5 games with that level of atmosphere and richness that is so well suited to the licence.

Re: Failing Manufacturers Are Pushing the Narrative That Consoles Are Dying, Says Ex-Xbox Exec

CrashBandicoat

As a GF Now user it is true that the consoles have now been overtaken by cloud services in terms of graphics and even latency.

As a PC gamer on the other hand, I don't believe it will ever surpass the simple console or cloud app for mass market.

I do think the concept of the exclusive has limited time left to run. Especially in the big budget AAA space.

A word of caution.... When Sony have total dominance of the console space in future (Nintendo is in a separate segment), why would they risk hundreds of millions on AAA exclusives?

What purpose would they serve? The competition from Xbox was what was saving you all from games as a service, and forcing Sony to invest in the single player exclusives.

Re: Rumour: PS5 Pro Design Seemingly Leaked

CrashBandicoat

Went into the Toyota dealer today and would you believe, the head unit in their new Prius had no tape deck.

I told them in no uncertain terms - no cassette player, no sale.

Then I realised it was 2024, not 1984, and put my sensible hat on.

Seriously though, expect disc drives to be optional extras in future. With stores doing bundles. Whether that starts with the Pro, I couldn’t say.

Re: How Much Would You Pay for Your PS5 Games? Dev Says Industry Is Waiting for GTA 6 to Hike Prices

CrashBandicoat

There are plenty of games where I’d say they are worth more than £70. I look at Hogwarts and the sheer quality and polish made paying for the premium editions worthwhile.

The problem is many games aren’t at that level.

Even at the £70 point, I’d say many are falling short.

You can’t put that price tag on your game, and release the stuttering broken messes we are receiving lately.

If the default price increases, a lot of developers will need to shape up.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Star Wars Outlaws?

CrashBandicoat

Generally an enjoyer of Ubisoft games. They are like eating at a Harvester or Mac D. Good wholesome stuff. You get your monies worth and leave feeling satisfied, even if it isn’t spectacular or memorable.

In my late 40’s too, so Star Wars was my child hood and you could put a Star Wars sticker on a dog turd and I’d still throw £70 at you.

This game had everything going for it, but they failed to stick the landing. The gameplay looks awful.

Plus Disney happened, so the licence ain’t worth a dime these days. Frankly in 2024 I’d rather pay £70 to eat a dogs turd, than consume any media with that licence attached to it.

Re: Dramatic Conflicts as Sony Accused of Signing Secret PS5 Exclusivity with Black Myth: Wukong

CrashBandicoat

No idea what the truth is.

However, given how badly it runs on PS5, it doesn't exactly look like Sony did a deal for temporary exclusivity, which in theory would have seen dev resource freed up to focus on optimising the PS5 version, whilst the XSX version sat on ice.

Instead it looks like the PS5 version was bashed out in afternoon as an afterthought. So I'm calling fake news on this one.

Re: Black Myth: Wukong Patch 1.0.8 Promises Loads of Fixes on PS5, But No Performance Boosts

CrashBandicoat

@Brasilkilla nope. The Digital Foundry analysis makes sobering viewing.

Seems to be PC focused and designed beyond the existing console hardware.

The developers didn’t even bother putting the YTS trainee on console optimisation, they just simply didn’t bother at all.

Realistically 60fps is way beyond PS5, but a locked 30 is achievable. Alas even that was too much effort for the Devs.

They are all about those YouTubers and Games Journo’s with their gold plated RTX4090’s.

Re: Site News: Where's Our Star Wars Outlaws PS5 Review?

CrashBandicoat

I quite like Massive. I know exactly what this game is, and wouldn't care if it were a 6 or 7, as I'd get my 30 hours out of it.

The problem is the licence. 12 years ago I'd have bought a dog turd if it had a Star Wars logo on it.

Thanks to Disney, nowadays the Star Wars logo is the dog turd.

That's why I wouldn't buy this even if it were a 10/10.

Re: Rumour: Sony Paying Close Attention to Handheld Market After PS Portal's Shock Success

CrashBandicoat

I own a Switch and Portal, and was one of the few voices explaining why Portal would be a hit based on how most handheld Switch use is within the owners WiFi network or another WiFi network.

I wouldn’t buy a dedicated PS handheld, as I don’t want to play old quality games remotely. Sony are not Nintendo and their niche of games require better visuals as they are more about the cinematic experience.

I want to play full fat modern games exactly as I do with my portal. Sony need a Portal 2 with revisions at console level (Pro and beyond) that improve streaming at higher bit rates.

Then add an OLED with VRR and bobs your uncle.

Re: Preview: As Uncharted Rests, Xbox Provides PS5 Adventure in Indiana Jones

CrashBandicoat

In my view it should have been fully third person.

Or if they were really keen on first person, you should be Indy's assistant and on an adventure with him.

I'd actually prefer to be on an adventure WITH the character so I get to interact with them. Don't see much point in the licence otherwise.

He can constantly call you "kid" as he did in the Choose Your Own Adventure book I had as a kid.

Re: Floatopia Could Surpass Animal Crossing on PS5

CrashBandicoat

Not a chance. Just buy a Switch.

I suspect development stopped because the next AC will be released early in the next consoles lifecycle.

The smart play is for Nintendo to wait until the hardcore fans and nerds have upgraded to the Switch 2 and get past those initial stock shortages, then drop the new AC to explode the mass market upgrades.

Re: Joy as Capcom Ditches Gendered Armour in Monster Hunter Wilds, a Series First

CrashBandicoat

Swings and roundabouts. Removing restrictions on character choices also reduces the impact of such decisions, and changes the game from a living world into a theme park.

I like to create characters within the restrictions of the universe depicted - because I role play. Others instead view their character as a self-insert, and wish to play as an idealistic version of themselves. I never design my character to look like me for example.

Arguably Monster Hunter isn’t really an RPG in the same sense as WoW or TESO. In the case of the latter, I feel that increases in freedom have definitely detracted from the experience, with much of the character choice now being meaningless.

Versus say Dragons Dogma where for example your dimensions and gender have a real impact on the experience.

Re: People Are Already Freaking Out Over Monster Hunter Wilds' PS5 Frame Rate

CrashBandicoat

Developers should design games for the hardware that exists. Not wishful thinking fantasy consoles of the future that don’t exist.

I can excuse something like AC Unity, as Ubisoft started work on the game with just a rough idea of what PS4 would be like, and had the rug pulled out when to their disbelief, they discovered that Sony had acquired their CPU’s by rifling through trash cans looking for ten year old broken laptops.

Games releasing now or in the coming year, were designed when the spec of PS5 was well known early enough in the project to ensure decent performance was achieved.

How would it be achieved? By ensuring the game was designed within the constraints of the hardware.

This garbage tier performance games we receive now, were deliberately designed that way. It was no accident, it was no “well the PS5” is five years old” or other excuses.

No. No. No.

The PS5 is the current lead platform for most games and everyone knew its spec. It doesn’t have the CPU from the Enterprise in Star Trek The Next Generation, so tough luck, you can’t create a game that operates like the holodeck. You pair back your design to match the hardware, and clearly that’s beyond the intellect of Capcom at the moment.

Re: Black Myth: Wukong Is Blowing Up Big Time on PS5, PC

CrashBandicoat

@Logonogo hilarious? You are paying £70 for games and defending them stuttering and tearing, but would be throwing a tantrum at Amazon, your ISP or LG/Samsung/Sony if the latest episode of Rings of Power did the same thing.

The utter lack of consumer responsibility has always been to the detriment of the games industry. Be it pre ordering, buying DLC or tolerating poor performance.

In no other industry, entertainment or otherwise, is this tolerated to the same degree.

Re: Hands On: Black Myth: Wukong Is Brilliant, But We Have PS5 Concerns

CrashBandicoat

I have an RTX3080, and I typically buy games on PS5 by default as they are more likely to run at a playable level on the console.

So I wouldn't worry too much, but certainly get the caution given all the catastrophically bad ports in recent years.

Just saying that I can speak from direct experience from owning the same card and console, that given the way the PC pee's its performance up the wall so wastefully, they are directly comparable most of the time in terms of what they really deliver.

Ignore the "on paper" theoretical performance of that PC and the idea that it is X times the power of PS5 etc. It doesn't perform anywhere near that in the real world.

Re: 'Rebuilt' Until Dawn Comes to Haunt PS5, PC This October

CrashBandicoat

Loved the game. Obviously a big part of that was the plot bait and switch, but that’s something you can only enjoy once.

Not sure I’d want to do it again.

However, a lot of people who were children when I first played it, are now adults. Plenty of new gamers reaching adulthood all the time.

I’m not the audience and that’s fine.

Re: Ubisoft Suggests More Development Time Required for Future Assassin's Creed Games

CrashBandicoat

I think some people are a bit harsh.

Valhalla was way too long for me. I’m still playing it though after all this time, but a large chunk of the development resource was wasted on content most won’t see.

It’s a pretty good game and looks great to this day, but you stand at the foot of a mountain, look up and just become demotivated as you know you don’t have those hundreds of hours required to climb it.

I still think Odyssey and Valhalla are absolute gaming marvels. I can’t believe how they created so much content in so short a time, and a lot of those quests are actually very well written, fun and memorable.

I’ve put more time into them than RDR2, which has far too much busy work and no 60fps patch.

Ubisoft are a bit hard done by, and I’m defending them despite my dislike of the politics and other immersion breaking oddities.

Re: Sony Seemingly Leaks PC Port for Red Dead Redemption in PS Store Listing

CrashBandicoat

As a PC gamer since the mid-90's, I don't give a monkeys.

If anyone has the money to afford the type of overkill PC required to brute force all the badly optimised games out there, you can't seriously tell me they couldn't afford a crusty old XOX or XSX from a car boot sale to play RDR.

It was running at native 4k a good 6 years ago...

They also don't own a Switch and didn't buy it for peanuts in the recent sale either.

If a person couldn't be bothered to make the bare minimum effort necessary to play the game up until now, they certainly won't be that excited about a PC port.

Re: Geralt Voice Actor Confirms Role in The Witcher 4, White Wolf Will Be 'Part of the Game'

CrashBandicoat

Cockle is absolute class. He nails it. It’s clear that Cavill based his performance on Cockle’s.

I’m concerned at Geralt not being the focus. That was after all what destroyed the TV show, where the talentless writers shifted too much focus away from the titular character, such that Geralt and Cavill were pretty much relegated to being an extra.

CDPR have superior writing talent to Netflix, but still I hope they aren’t pressured by those funding the game to base it around new characters, where let’s just say that being compelling wasn’t the primary characteristic of concern….

Re: Dead Rising's PS5 Remaster Will Strip Bonus Points for Erotic Photos

CrashBandicoat

@Ogbert said "people are influenced by the media we take in"

I can fix that for you. You mean:

"I am influenced by the media I take in."

Have to be careful about weasel words like "people". It's a form of "appeal to majority" fallacy IMO.

There are a small number of individuals who can be influenced by media, just as there are a small number of individuals who abuse everyday items like knives or cars to do harm.

In reality it's a projection of your own personal belief and your own personal susceptibility to such imagery, and a handful of media stories you might have read about deranged individuals.

Must not falsely portray that as reflective of any remotely significant numbers of people.

Re: It Took PS5 Longer Than PS4 to Pass 4 Million Units Milestone in the UK, But There's Context

CrashBandicoat

Not just the pandemic shortage, but the PS3 and 360 were far longer in the tooth than the PS4, and let’s not forget the Pro, were. There was pent up mass market demand for the 4 at launch.

I got a 5 at launch, but due to the Pro, it was a more marginal decision in the early cross generation days and I sense this biased purchases more towards enthusiasts than the masses initially.
