I’d like to see quality of life updates, most of which are minor and may be fixable in a menu:

• why do I need to go through three screens and two buttons to overwrite a save game - make it ‘x’, give me one warning, why would anyone want to rename the save each time?
• when I lock on to a target, and switch targets, keep locking on, don’t soft-lock suddenly so I have to swing the camera round manually
• Give us the option to switch classes somewhere in the opening, in case we wish we’d gone a different route when seeing it in action
• make Neve as interesting as she looks / interesting

It’s like people have grown up with the caricature of gamers and decided “Yes, this is me, I will own this and triple down” - and then have a four year old hissy fit when a game features any minority.

I’m enjoying the game - the characters and writing are a bit rubbish, but after 10 hours it really starts to pick up.

Ah so it’s like Whack-bat?

Having played this all evening, unless it really ranks in later chapters, it has every bit the magic of the original game. A bloody text message string made me emotional.

Maybe it does tank and deserves that 6, otherwise just a reminder reviews are personal opinions - and sometimes you’re going to disagree. Though it does seem harsh.

This seems to be a pretty polarising game - on the one hand there’s this ‘hate’ and a mightily unimpressed review from this site, but I’ve also seen glowing reviews saying it’s one of the best LiS games yet.
I remember the first game had a similar response, so I’ll definitely be checking the game out and seeing for myself!

Really disappointed to read about this, but for me I’m such a big fan of the games just seeing and hearing another chapter in Max’s life is worth the asking price. But at least I’m prepared for a B-movie affair this time.

Mad how they took a game with a clear, easily transferable story and set up, and seemingly messed it up. But then that’s Amazon all over, all money, no soul.

I will of course still probably binge this in one sitting as I’m a sucker for anything crime related and Japanese

Reminds me a lot of ‘Heart of Darkness’ - as long as the horror is suitably dialled up this could be fantastic!

It’ll be basic gameplay, dated in many ways, but man am I hyped just to experience it all again. Hopefully if it does well enough we may, possibly, possibly maybe see some kind of follow up eventually.

I don’t folks were complaining about the price being low - just cautious.
These days as gamers we’re no strangers to paying a lot of money and being shafted. We’ve also been made aware that games cost a lot, and £70 is what studios often need to charge to meet spiralling costs.

Luckily this looks refreshing, and as £50 isn’t ‘budget’ seems like if it sells well it’ll still give a small studio a hefty boost for their next project.

I’m still waiting for reviews though, the days of trusting pre-orders died a while back

I get it’s not so much extra, but Square we’re exploiting their biggest fans. If the game was ready two weeks ‘early’ it should be available, hopefully they’ll think twice in future.

Also gonna do my best to avoid them - if there’s one game franchise you don’t want spoiled, it’s a LiS game. Like Game of Thrones no doubt I’ll have it spoilt walking past someone in the street though

Kart Racer Confirmed! Mario Kart but instead of banana skins and shells you pick up ink and paper. A clever control scheme means you have to race as you write players names, the left stick is your steering, the right your pen strokes. If they pass you before you write their name, you die.

Something I learnt during field research from conservationists, if jackals are causing an issue the worst thing to do is kill one, maybe two. If you kill one of the dominant in the pack, the rest have a tendency to disperse, all becoming dominant pairs as they create new packs. This made me think of that - personally I love Jackals, they rock, so hopefully all these new studios will too!

This sounds interesting! But I’m a Lone Wolf, a Soul Survivor, a strong independent man who don’t need no friends (I do and am glad to have them, I just prefer to play games by myself) - will it be possible to play single player?

Very interesting! I’ve only played part of Pathologic 2, I like weird games but my gods that things on another level. It’s good, incredibly atmospheric, but I just found it so unsettling and bizarre it scared me off a bit. Still, intrigued by this!

How generous are the save points?

I know it adds to the horror, but the original made it a bit too frustrating for me to complete back in the day

There’s so much potential but I just have a feeling it’ll be rubbish, I’ll be very happy to be proven wrong though. It’s one of my favourite franchises. As long as they can get the character and depth in the story, it could be excellent.

Obviously there’s a whole discussion about how, mysteriously, a game featuring a black character and a woman without side-boob is unpopular in gaming circles, but it’s excellent that they’re taking extra time on this.

They should have kept historical accuracy and cultural awareness key, it’s what makes Assassin’s Creed engaging games. Seems like Ubisoft has been shaken up a bit and is starting to take a step back and get things in order.

Didn’t Dead or Alive do this like 20 years ago?

That’s a lie Yoko, or we’d already be busy traumatising ourselves with Nier 3 by now - which would generate far more money than a collab.

But I do like the man has a sense of humour, and doesn’t pretend something is what it isn’t….unless it’s in his games where he’s setting you up for a twist that would make Shyamalan piss himself.

“New game features woman, white male gamers lose their minds” is about as reliable as the sun rising each morning. It’s amazing how entitled they feel for people so insecure.

This looks like the most JRPG a JRPG can be, if it’s relatively cheap I’d definitely be tempted.

Red Dead Yotei - looks incredible!

It’s a lot of fun, with great graphics and lots of different units, but I put about 50-60 hours in, had my fill, then felt no urge to carry on and complete it. But I enjoyed the time I had with it

If we can get an emotional scene soundtracked by black metal again I’ll be over the moon though - I’ve still never seen it done before or after Edgerunners!

@gamer2004ama my dude, I missed the whole debate I was talking about Yoshi P. But I’m sure the reason he doesn’t want sexy mods, and I agree, is that the game has minors in.

The adult characters, sure, whatever floats peoples boats but that’s better outside the game, for the above reason.

I’m replaying ‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ after a long break, and it’s blowing me away with its story-telling all over again. ‘Immortals…’ was a technically sound game, with interesting world building that lacked a spark.
I think with their talents combined, they could cook up something very interesting.

Bland, soulless, generally unnerving cash-grab. Sounds a very faithful adaptation to me!

This continues to look fantastic, looking forward to seeing how it all turns out.

Is the gameplay all about light platforming and discussions, or is there any combat or puzzling involved?

Selling it without a disc drive or even vertical stand at premium price, when developers haven’t even begun to unlock standard PS5’s potential is a bit silly. But £550 I think would be fair for first time buyers without a PS5 yet.

I had an extended break from this game, so that’ll serve as a nice call back to its wonderful, weird arms.

A bit more razzle dazzle for £700 that doesn’t come with a disc drive, or, I’ve heard (and the internet never lies) a vertical stand? Sir, I started gaming on a Sega mega drive, a spit shine and polish wont sell me. Mostly because I don’t have the money, but still.

Based on the fact most PS5 games are coming out on PS4 too, at least you’d likely get many years of mileage on a pro console. Might even take you up to the release of Elder Scrolls 6, probably not up to the PS9’s Beyond Good & Evil 2 though

FFVIII was THE game that got me into gaming, led to an obsession with JRPG’s and really blew my little mind. It also absolutely completely ***** me over, when I ended up in a place you can’t escape under-levelled. Took a year and the use of a cheat disc (remember those?) to get further.

It’s still a surprisingly wonderful game, if a little more dated than, say, FF9, with its more ‘realistic’ graphics.

As long as you can punch Nazis I’m sold.

It doesn’t do anything wildly innovative, many of the systems in place are pretty basic and there’s sone dated ideas at play. BUT it’s also a lot of fun, been playing for about 10 hours and no technical issue, and it’s only getting more fun the more I play.

A solid 7/10 from me, I don’t regret the purchase at all.

The trailer had me at the 🦈 - this looks like it’ll be a lot of fun and fun-frustration

Hah great, I hope they lose an incredible amount of money, and give the sales a little boost for the hard work developers put into the game.

@PuppetMaster I don’t get your point, the AI looks perfect to me. What sort of Star Wars game would have stormtroopers able to hit their target?!

In all seriousness I’m really enjoying the game, they overhyped it and many things could be improved (and it’s not really ‘open world’). But the game is really enjoyable, lots to do, a great world to run around in. People forget 7/10 games are perfect for a low-pressure romp.

6/10 I think was a bit harsh, but the review raised fair points and you won’t always agree with a review.

@riceNpea I haven’t, and I haven’t seen the well-received tv adaptation either. Is it worth it?

@riceNpea had a similar thought, something about it makes be a bit uncomfortable. But as long as it’s not like “look at how bad a country owned by Japan would be”, and more an interesting bit of flavour and ironic/tongue in cheek, it could…still make me uncomfortable with that chest hair.

I’d love this to be the death of shedloads of live service games, but I know we’ll still continue to see them shoved on us. Great studios forced ti pivot into them, spending years chasing over, by time of release, long-gone highs.

But it won’t. Big-wigs won’t look at the Suicide Squad’s and Concorde’s, they’ll look at the Helldivers 2, and still go all in.

I’m really into rogue lites but for some reason bounced off this, that was late early access though so I really should give it another go - maybe it was just the wrong time

I’m playing it and very much enjoying it, but I’m not a huge Star Wars fan. It’s just good fun, yes a bit basic but just seems a more old school charm with a wonderfully realised world.

Looks like the kind of game where it’s exactly what you expect, which makes it easy to tell if you’ll enjoy it a lot or not. I will, so I’ll pick this up - I like a good, fun, no thrills romp here and there, to relax to.
