Re: Reaction: It's Time for Xbox to Tell Us Which Games It's Bringing to PS5, and Which Games It Isn't

Grumblevolcano

I think they'll use other platform holder events to announce legacy ports meanwhile their own events and Geoff's events to announce ports for upcoming releases. So like Starfield being announced at the PS5 Pro reveal (maybe due to the power of PS5 Pro the game can run at 4K 60fps), FH5 announced at the Switch 2 reveal, Avowed announced at the Game Awards (the game releases on Xbox in February), etc.

@NEStalgia XB1 had a Wii U situation in a different way, it took too long for the system sellers to arrive. For example with Wii U you had Skyward Sword release on Wii the year before meanwhile with XB1 you had Halo 4 release on 360 the year before which meant it took longer for the new systems to get entries.

Granted, Halo 4 being a XB1 launch title and Gears being a Fall/Holiday 2014 release wouldn't have helped much given how much damage Don Mattrick caused with the console reveal.

Re: Rumour: Xbox to Announce a 'Big' Game Coming to PS5 at Gamescom

Grumblevolcano

The biggest thing that makes me question FH5 for PS5 happening at Gamescom is that it would overshadow the new Indiana Jones trailer already confirmed for Opening Night Live as Forza is one of the Xbox big 3 (Halo, Gears, Forza).

I think Indiana Jones and Starfield are most likely to be the PS5 port. Leaning towards Indiana Jones as it has the biggest chance to give the game more attention rather than just devolve into arguments over whether Xbox console is dead.

Re: It Took PS5 Longer Than PS4 to Pass 4 Million Units Milestone in the UK, But There's Context

I think it's that PS5 never really had an equivalent to Holiday 2016 (161 weeks after PS4 released was December 30th 2016). Push Square reported on crazy sales during that time period and the stuff which happened back then was stuff like PS4 Pro, PSVR (both sold out fast during Holiday 2016), crazy discounts (e.g. PS4 + Uncharted 4 + FIFA 17 for £200), big multiplatform games ditching last gen (e.g. Infinite Warfare was the first CoD not to release on PS3/360 which released on PS4/XB1), etc.

Re: Talking Point: Is It Finally the Right Time to Buy PSVR2?

Grumblevolcano

This article did make me wonder whether PS5 Pro will require a new adapter for PSVR2 to function (like the one used for PC). For context, I'm reminded back to 2016/2017 when Microsoft released XB1 revisions (XB1S and XB1X) and you needed a special Kinect adapter to be able to use the device with those consoles.

By the way PS Direct says the PSVR2 sale ends on August 5th.

Re: PlayStation Returns as TGS Exhibitor for the First Time Since 2019

So the PS4 Pro setup was:

  • Codename announcement in June
  • Reveal at Playstation Meeting in September (the event was announced a month in advance)
  • Released in November

Considering nowadays E3 is dead and it's perfectly normal for Sony to remain on the quieter side, it does feel realistic that even though there was no codename announcement there ends up being a Playstation Showcase in September to reveal the PS5 Pro with TGS being the first place where the public can try it out for themselves.

Re: Next Gran Turismo 7 PS5, PS4 Update Could Be a Big One

Grumblevolcano

@Americansamurai1 I think they're saving it for 2025. 2023 was a rather quiet year for PS Studios so by the approximate 2+ year rule (Ragnarok was a bit under 2 years), 2025 would be a quiet year for newly eligible PC releases. Hence they'd fill in the gaps with older stuff, I think 2025 for PC would look like:

  • TLoU 2
  • Demon's Souls
  • GT7
  • Spider-Man 2
  • 2 live service games that release on PS5 in 2025

Re: PlayStation Likely to Go All-Digital By PS7, Analyst Predicts

Grumblevolcano

If Sony were to go all digital, they'd probably need to add other stores on their systems due to EU regulations which would mean the Microsoft Store (with Game Pass included) is forced on there much like how Epic Games Store (and soon Microsoft Store) was forced onto iOS devices despite Apple not wanting it. That is a very strong reason for Sony to want to still support physical media as a result.

I think the fate of physical for Sony/Nintendo very much lies in the hands of retailers at this point. If retailers are willing to sell physical games then Sony/Nintendo will continue to make physical games. Can't say I'm optimistic considering how quickly retailers have been wanting to kill off DVD/Blu-ray recently though.

Re: The Last of Us 2 PC Port Wrapped Up Development More Than Six Months Ago, Report Claims

Grumblevolcano

@NEStalgia @HonestHick I think Sony's current PC strategy is centralized around GTA6. Rockstar are infamous for treating PC as an afterthought so Sony's logic is probably that PC players will buy PS5 for GTA6 and then as they have the system anyway, they may as well play PS Studios games on PS5 instead of waiting.

Not sure it'll play out like that though, could end up being that PC players buy PS5 for GTA6 and then use it just as a GTA6 machine with PS Studios games still bought on PC.

Re: Reaction: PS5 Livestreams Are No Longer Speaking to the Fans Who Built the Brand

Grumblevolcano

The State of Play was ok, had some absolutely fantastic reveals like Astro Bot and more MH Wilds news meanwhile also had rough parts like the decision to spend a third of the show on Concord.

Playstation is a partner for Summer Game Fest so we know that there's more announcements to come. Regarding the big PS Studios heavy showcase people are hoping for, I feel that will happen whenever Sony chooses to reveal the PS5 Pro.

Also, considering the big Xbox multiplatform strategy I think Sony knows what's being announced at the Xbox showcase. If stuff like Gears 6 are coming to PS5 day 1, that will create more big buzz about PS5.

Re: When Is PlayStation's State of Play?

Grumblevolcano

My predictions for the 14 games are:

  • Astro Bot
  • Concord
  • Until Dawn remake
  • GoW Ragnarok PC
  • Assassin's Creed Shadows
  • Resident Evil 9 (begins the SoP)
  • Kingdom Hearts 4 (ends the SoP)
  • Sonic X Shadow Generations
  • Silent Hill 2 Remake (then reappears for a more in depth look at the Silent Hill Transmission event which starts around 30 minutes after SoP ends)
  • MGS Delta
  • Metro Awakening (PSVR2)
  • 3 indie games (at least 1 of which is a PS+ Extra/Premium game)

Then Sony's presence at Summer Game Fest being all about Horizon.

Re: Second Silent Hill Transmission Invites Imminent 'Game Updates, a Deeper Look at the Film'

Grumblevolcano

@jFug That happened back with the first Silent Hill event. There was lots of rumours about an October 2022 Playstation Showcase but in the end we saw lots of standalone PS related announcements instead. Silent Hill got its own event with SH2 remake being PS exclusive, Resident Evil got its own event with State of Play branding, FFXVI got a big standalone trailer, etc.
